Just wanted to generally update that I was working on the "final" version of this TAS for quite some time, but once Fall hit, I began to lose interest and stopped working on it for some time. I plan to jump back into it come Winter break, but not before then. I got walled at the silph rival fight, which involves MANY gen 1 misses. I also want to note that this version I'm working on is a comparison to the new fastest version to see if this NEWER version will be faster. After this will be one final version made. So...yeah I have a lot of work cut out for me kekw

Do you want to move forward with the judging or make a new movie? I was thinking of saving this for Playground, but the policies for it aren't set yet and I don't know how it would fit knowing there is a large improvement.
Considering it could take upwards of 4-6 months just for a new one, that is mainly up to you. I’m fine with the judging for now because I could lose motivation for this project halfway through, but I don’t know until I have a new caterpie to use because I’m also implementing the tackle animation mentioned earlier in this post. I would say go ahead with the judging for now. I sincerely apologize if in 2 months I magically have a brand new TAS, but I doubt I can be that quick

I made a test run that avoids the 9-minute detour for Hyper Beam. It's 5 minutes and 7 seconds faster than this video. I used your input for the first half, and my part is very sloppy - this is just a route test. A good version would save at least a minute with tighter input and some route changes. Because of the need to use Take Down in more battles, this run has two additional Pokemon Center visits. They could be avoided by teaching Butterfree Mega Drain after it learns Psybeam - this would let it heal partially before it needs to use Take Down, such as by using it on Giovanni's Rhyhorn before Sabrina. That way, the run could stay in Redbar longer. It also saves a single turn against Lorelei's Slowbro.
Since you actually made a test run, I will look into actually making a full fledged version of this. I still enjoy the idea of the meme game corner Hyper Beam pickup, but it definitely is incredibly slow. I appreciate this a lot <3

It seems Butterfree along with Beedrill have the lowest total stats out of all fully evolved species other than Ditto, Drowzee, and Farfetch'd in Gen 1. I wonder if they have the lowest sum of Attack and Special in particular by any chance. If that's the case there would be something more objectively special about this choice out of all mons used for any%, like in the cases of some published movies with similar goals. I agree that it's similar to the Princess Peach category for SMB2, and I enjoyed it. It's an interesting challenge. RangerSquid said he never wants to do the Sandshrew fight again. But I think it would have been faster to turn animations on for the Metapod section, because Tackle's animation is faster than its flash animation when battle scene is turned off.
I did the math with this fight since I was somewhat curious. I don’t know the specific frames saved if the animations are on, but let’s say each tackle animation on saves 5 frames. In total we use 26 tackles in the first section up to completing Brock. That’s a total of a little over 200 frames. While this would be nice, if you heard me in my explanation on why I don’t want to do this section again, this would require redoing all the manips and doing the light year trainer fight again. For an understanding, the first time I manipulated the fight it took 4 months on and off. The second time took another month on and off. I appreciate the idea, but I have absolutely no interest in attempting the fight unless I find a faster overall route for the TAS than this one

There was nothing special about Butterfree in this game, it was based off of a meme of myself in the speedrunning community always picking Butterfree for any Alt Main speedrun I completed. I wanted to see how good and/or bad this TAS would be with probably one of the most difficult pokemon to use even for a TAS
