I'm 99% positive it's due to Trainer/Fly. Since I see there was another battle between her and the T/F Pokemon, then it has to be to unlock the menu, which to my recollection, random battles don't do.
Edit: I stopped the video after the Trainer/Fly usage at Mt. Moon and confirmed this. It's purely to unlock the menu. Random battles do NOT unlock the start menu. Thus if he battles the lass the first time, he'll have to get into ANOTHER trainer battle.
Didn't we have 5 zillion Super Metroid runs at once at one time?
Also, wish there was a quicker way to search by name instead of going though 15 pages to get there. Search box please?
Great. Now we're gonna have to have a rule that says "no submissions of a game for at least 2 weeks after it's published, unless it's in a different category. we don't want to trample over people's feelings of having their freshly published run beaten so soon."
Yeah, I know those spikes are trouble (I hate the lower route on Filmoa Act II when I try to speed run it for that exact same reason). But I thought I'd throw it out as a suggestion to keep a good flow and allow for a better boss fight. Too bad it didn't work. Oh well!
Good idea. I'm thinking only one of two spots is really good without being spoilerific.
1. When the Pokemon is called out. (Go I!)
2. When Skarmory uses Steel Wing (Skarmory uses Steel Wing - NOT when it says it missed).
I think the latter is probably better, since it leaves a bit of drama in the pic. Steel Wing is 70 attack power and has a 90% chance of hitting, which given The Computer is a Cheating Bastard, that's pretty much a game over if a normal person was in that situation.
No, because you don't fly backwards like you can in other "Simon" games. Plus the bat is WAY too fast to even attempt it on Hard. Plus you don't boost though the floors (like the original CV).
I do like the idea of having a screenshot of the Skarmory battle too. Going into a battle 9 levels down, half health, and paralyzed on their ONE pokemon (which doesn't have type advantage) for a normal person is suicide. I think if I was a regular person and saw that and heard/knew they won, I'd watch.
Voting for this to be the screenshot, given the insane damage levels at this point in the game.
Either that or for Diablos being THE ENDed. Since the chances of it happening are ridiculously slim.
Unlike some of the other Super Metroid hacks that have come though here, I actually LIKED this hack. While it's not a direct copy of Zero Mission, there's a lot of similarities that I can see clearly as the game goes on. But I think the fact that it's similar, yet different, makes it fun.
The hack was good, the run was well executed from what I could see, so I have no issues with this one being published in our hacks section.
YES vote for both the hack and the run.
I used 23.5 and had no issues. Make sure you're using the 1.0 version (and not the 1.2 version).

I even had my copy 7z and it worked fine.
As for the idea of using Taillow/Swellow, I definitely see why. The speed factor of it blows EVERYTHING out of the water. The next closest is Raticate, which may beat out Taillow, but is on par for most of the categories with Swellow. Heracross would be an OK choice, but only if you were focusing on physical attacks and not Special damage.

So you couldn't find a quick way to make Kalia drop twice? Darn.
Something to look at as an idea for managing time without appearing to delay - how much time difference is there between going left and going right at the split? Maybe it'll pay off in the end here to get you better luck?
Couple of questions:
1. Would it be faster to blow up the one wall in the intro that you jump though?
2. Wouldn't it be more advantageous to do Frost Walrus after Dragoon instead of Web Spider? Since he does need to be beaten before Colonel.
3. Why the boots? Those things are awful and worthless.
I looked over the submission text over and over...but I've yet to find what kind of debt you owe Abra?
The pokemon names at one point are IOU Abra. For our not so good English speakers, pronounce it as "I owe you." as it owing a debt. :)
