i think the GG run is still a bit rough, but i dont have time to explain [last day of classes, w00t!] so i will edit this post sometime today. EDIT[finally]: ok, here is what i see that could be improved on (speculative, due to my inability to play any emulators on a mac :( ) also, i refer to the youtube version, for reasons already stated. :10 would it increase speed/reduce frames if you spun down that mini-hill? ~1:27 is there any way you could start bouncing on the water, to cut down on water-induced slowdown? i know you are already IN the water, so it may not work, but just a thought. i DO like the mini speed boosts you get when rolling off the edge and hitting the crab. 2:27 same as point #1 looked good otherwise. sorry for the inconvenience for only remarking with youtube timing units >_>

Buy using the FAQ you would have found the emulator that you require to play the movie file.

ok, so you need to use re-records to erase all of those fuck ups. here is something that may help you understand how to use them: You load the rom and start recording. you make a savestate, like every other emulator has, at (for example) 2 minutes 53 seconds. oh no! you fucked up at 2 minutes 54 seconds! load the savestate for 2:53 and try the part at 2:54 again. this is how the tas movies get to perfection, lots and lots of savestates, lots and lots of fuck ups, and lots and lots of loading the savestates to try again. hopefully that wasnt condescending, but it was the simplest wording i could come up with. EDIT: for the record, you cannot submit a run here that starts recording from savestates! i know you used a savestate because the movie started from mario already having 8 stars, instead of the usual zero. just a word to the wise, since i cant recall if you said you were making these runs for the hell of it or not

have you tried it, upthorn? even if it does work, though, i imagine that eventually the nanosecond discrepancies between the emulator and movie will add up and cause a desynch later on in the game (if not immediately)

As I explained in my submission text, I utilized the "tilt" feature already. This is where half of my original savings came from. However I think it's probably improvable; I didn't do a whole ton of trial and error testing to make this absolutely frame perfect.
...yeah, i read that... ^_^; ... goddammit

The bonus levels can be improved some also. But this won't be on the top of my list for a while though, so that'll give you a chance to get a good run in.
would it be faster to "TILT" the pinball machine? i dont know if it is possible in this gem of a game, but it might be a bit faster than waiting for the ball to go down the hole... i have no way to test this (crappy emulators for mac T_T) so this is just kind of thinking aloud.

is there any way you could get your score down 2 points on level one, so when you kill the last guy the screen says: "Score 1337" ? :3 i have never heard of this game before, but it was funny as hell, seeing a slow ass tank quickly butt fuck any yellow or red dots found on the screen edit: wait wait wait wait... the prisoners are floating heads?! wtf?

Umm... take a look at the .gmv I just uploaded. The slime kills you, and the moving in the pipes isn't a glitch, it's just a one way route.
i was typing when you posted, evidently. oh well.

so try removing LAYERS. see if the green stuff goes away when the background goes away. also see if the water at the start of the level and the slime with the barrel on the upper part of the level go away. the only reason this discussion has gone this far without any real results is because people are confused and you never took the time to explain your thinking... and perhaps taking the time to clarify your point earlier would have saved the time you have taken to defend it? no offense is meant, but i dont see why you kept arguing a vague point when you could have explained it in two lines of text.

Actually, not releasing the cork forbids the player to reach the kart, because the player can't move from the very first room, but I think that when Sonic is thrown a certain way to the tunnels (glitch), you can still find your way. What's important to know is : does that slime really kills you? If I remember right, no, but nobody has a reliable memory.
the game has no underwater levels (unless i am mistaken), thus all liquid seen in the game (magma, water, slime) provides a nice, quick, instant death. i mean, even the slime by that barrel on the second level of stage one (that is green) kills you... i mean, what else would the slime do, turn you into a ninja turtle?

it seems you (Qlex) are just thinking aloud, instead of having an experience/wip/proof that you can do these "glitches"... why dont you make a wip showing exactly what you mean?

fuck this game's difficulty... i got past level 1 with no lives, and then fell like a ton of adamantium on level two. i will help where i can, but due to my current state of mac computing it will not be often T_T. we need more mac emulators! EDIT: it seems to me you wait longer than necessary on jumps. instead of jumping on the first possible frame you may wait a few before pressing jump again. this was all naked-eye observation, so i may be wrong. Also, is there a reason you whipped out your claws? wolverine's claws are badass [/geek-out] but does it cost frames for an animation or requires you to stop forward movement in order to press the correct buttons? anyways, first tas attempts are really difficult, but really helpful to the player (you). dont give up hope or get pissed off because we took this thing apart, it wasnt personal. christ, you should see my first attempts at X-men compared to jaysmad's work... that was my first attempt at running anything, and, well, it sucked bad.

Well, here is what i think: the music was hilarious, the final boss looked just like every other goon in this game (even though during the highly intense cutscenes he was shown as an uuber god), and the girl lifted her leg when she was rescued. these reasons, along with lack of sleep, make me vote a meh on this run... this stuff made me laugh my ass off but it had NOTHING to do with the actual game/run

I never understood this one. They used a patched version of smb1 where everything kills you, and they show a million ways to die. Is that supposed to be entertaining or something? Feels more like frustrating. A TAS of that patched version might be cool to watch, though.
i lean towards agreeing... but would it be entertaining had you not watched this video? or would it just be a stupid looking sped up mario game with an insane timer?
