Don't know about skill but sure do love me some game music. Tossed this cover of the ending from Mega Man X together yesterday.

It doesn't really get more random than this. Basically just been testing different things I like the sound of. Almost think I could/should make a full real track of something soon, but just never feel there's time... Having to get everything working again after every reformat doesn't help either, really should get a secondary computer. "Laughing Strictly Prohibited" is pretty much the second thing I ever did and a self-lesson in FLStudio. Times before panning and making sure levels weren't clipping... Still a kind of fun track of I-have-no-idea-genre (I call everything like this techno but I'm sure that would offend some one). As random as everything else. "Destination Destroyed" (not the shorter discontinued version) is probably the most serious thing I've been toying with and a really good way deeper self-lesson in FL, but never got around finishing it. Was kind of downy when starting it and feel I can't really continue in the same vein anymore. Also it was supposed to be a remix/reinterpretation of a Journey to Silius track, but it's really, really hard to hear the source anywhere. Unless you literally play both at once which gives a fun effect (they're the same BPM so it's no problem). Nice midi Rising Tempest, and I agree with Warp that it'd be really cool hearing it with a sound upgrade!

One of the most entertaining NES runs for sure! Got the honor to be the first video I saw on my shiny new iPod which I will use to show the dance moves to a whole lot of people I know that will be as happy as I was :)

Not sure what to say. Honestly, if it's as unoptimized as it seems by some of the posters in the know (mainly Michael Fried), and also basically what, just four maps out of sixteen, I don't see the point when there is a full run on the way. UNLESS - the run is officially being discontinued. Which would suck bad. As for stuff being spoiled... We've already got a couple of clips, and even on youtube which - I think? - you uploaded yourself? And what have we seen? Awesome shit. Do I want to see more awesome shit? Hell yeah. Will I love it? Yes. I still smile and enjoy the work done every time I watch any of the clips seen so far, "surprise" or not. A full run will still have 12 maps out of 16 that we haven't even seen TAS'ed at all yet, and then I don't care what your psychology class teaches you to be honest. You really seem to want to hear something, else you wouldn't be here writing all this - what? I ask because if we (hardly alone in this) knew, we'd say it, because we really want to see the run. If it is nothing about ego, then it's perfect because you'll be giving an awesome run to people. If it is about ego, well it's equally perfect because there's no way people won't be praising the shit out of you for a run of the quality seen so far :/ Anyway really hope you find motivation man. I like your runs and your person is a good addition on these forums and community in general.

Haven't watched this yet, but the comments are funny so will definitely have to do that. Kinda like Xkeeper, I raise an eyebrow to complaining about a version of a game holding a button down on the secondary controller but praising a run that assumes you broke your controller and can press left and right at the same time. (Now I don't know if the actual people speaking so far have this in common, but I mean in general.) I don't think I'd vote no because of any technical reasons mentioned so far really (though, why (J) :'[ ) so like always, I guess it's whether the movie was enjoyable to watch or not which there are split opinions on so far. One very important thing though is that the submission really, really, really should have included at least what adelikat later posted.

If the text is readable (even frame by frame), it's nice to have it readable without learning Japanese or something. If the text is not readable (= can and will be skipped by the runner), it doesn't really matter for that reason. As for "one version can be faster than the other" and especially because of text scrolling, that's such a lame and bad excuse. Mainly because I want to see speedruns of games we've played or know of, not speedruns of a version I've never seen. The seconds faster than human playing it is should come from the inhuman playing level, not a lame versionchange. That's just cheating, I mean what the hell. If the (in most cases, for most of us) "normal" version doesn't allow something, then neither should the (J) version be allowed to. Else why not fire up some cheat. If you could have bought a (J) version to do stuff you normally couldn't, you could have bought a GameGenie or something. And what are those seconds gained from text scrolling? 15? "Oh my God! We shall all perish in boredom from the extra 15 seconds of readable English text compared to the only two minutes Japanese signs in the (J) version!" If there truly are in-game changes, then either it's not enough to matter, or enough to make it almost two different games. And if you don't want to publish both, again - I'd still way rather see the version I actually know and may have played before than the version that doesn't make sense. -edit- Else it starts feeling like speedrunning is becoming like certain music; speedrunning for speedrunners only. Screw the normal people, screw normal entertainment, technical stuff that only pleases ourselves - yeah baby! So I don't know, no option was "it" but 1 was closest I guess. (It feels like I have more thoughts on this but they come to me kind of randomly, just woke up =D)

Hey I don't know about other people but for me it's a wanted trend! It's also not like some one who is not interested has to listen anyway so it can't really be a bad thing. May check this one out later, though I never played Earthbound myself or saw the run.

TorZelan i have a sad english, i didn't understood what you say about my old run, there are just boring french text or you are a french which just like to understand french text in this boring run ?
I just said that for me (and many people i know) it is more fun to be able to read the text (since you can't skip it completely anyway) and in SoM I really wanted to do this but couldn't since I do not know any French. For this discussion the point was that if there is no "real" reason to have Japanese instead of English other than "because we can even if we don't know Japanese" then English would be great for all the people who want to be able to read it. A big argument for not caring seems to be "nobody reads it anyway" which is very wrong, and if those people don't read it anyway and don't care... Let it be English then :) I'm sure you had a reason for doing your run in French and I can never complain about non-assisted runs since they all amaze me, it's just that this particular game, for me, is walk walk walk slash slash walk slash wait wait wait if the text isn't readable. If the text is readable, then woah it's suddenly Secret of Mana and a warm fuzzy feeling inside :)

That was such a great game! Not the hardest with the infinite-gold trick but hard enough when you have no sense of direction or location whatsoever like me. Cool stories, quests, items, enemies, spells, everything! Ack, need to get that one again. Seem to have lost my old floppy's though... The Worms games had singleplayers right? I don't remember them all that well but IIRC maps and player starting locations weren't random... If that's true it could be cool! Points for style, freehand snipe some one from across the map hehe or something hehe.

There are not a lot of me's (apart from all the me's that are me). Even after roughly ten years, it seems unique. So happyhappy! Closest thing I've seen is probably "Sir Cerec Tzorcelan" (...fairly sure that's how it was written) from the RPG "Eon".

My view and personal opinion: This is one of the games I'd like to see most of all, and I'd watch it straight through without speeding anything up and I'd enjoy it immensely. However, there is already a run at SDA - and thanks to the sole fact that it is in French I couldn't bear with it many minutes at all and found it incredibly boring, however well done it may or may not have been which I will never find out before falling asleep or turning it off. For this game I just see no good reason in the universe to do it in J. Unless there is something technical (I haven't fully read this thread yet), but even then I'd honestly vote for enjoyability being prioritized. I wouldn't be surprised if some one said "that's your opinion", and it would be absolutely correct, BUT - who disagrees and for what reason? Is it "cool" to have a bunch of J symbols? Would you do it "just because I can"? J - no watch, but respect where respect is due. U - fun times and eternal praise. Simple as that. :)

http://www.ssh.ne.jp/ ...for speed, videogames and no vocals. Travel Demon Guilty Gear Momentary Life Holy Orders(Be Just or Be Dead) Razorback/No.666-Mix - edit - Gah, almost forgot the two definite favorites at the moment! I don't have time to find them in all that "???? ??? ?????" text hehe, but the names show up as simply "Decisive Battle" and "GuiltyGearX" on my mp3 player. Both these are absolutely amazing and I'm sure something wicked could be synched to either of the solo's forcing people to change pants.

True, still quite well implemented and funnily enough Iron Maiden was already suggested in this thread! (Which I'd really disagree on if it was just one of their tracks; even though they're good and all I don't see how it would fit in more than anything else.)

Wow, yeah. That kicked so much ass. I really, really enjoyed the last one and didn't really think further than "yup, done with slowmo and all, perfection", but apparantly there was a lot of entertainment and even some time to dig out. Awesome. Would yes-vote if I could, luckily it doesn't matter that I can't yet.
