Thank you for watching my TAS. Still there may be some possibility of optimization.
Is it necessary to get 'The Man' to follow you in Marsh Cave? Do his shots help out that much or is there any other reason?
Main reason: His presence is necessary for Warping from the Undersea Volcano to the top of Tower of Gemma. When an NPC comes between a snowman (or a treasure chest or something) and the hero, the hero enters the snowman slightly. Wait again and again. Then he walks neglecting an event tile and the map will scroll to the final dungeon. I abused this Warp smoothly, using an easily-made lua script. Other reason: The man's fire is very effective to Julius Form 2. He deals around 150 damage, while the hero's sword deals only 40. See these RAMs to visualize some information.
0xD3F2: damage dealt to the Boss 0xD3F4: Boss HP
Of course his presence in the final battle is quite entertaining for those of us who know the game.
This is so funny I think too, because he is the ... :P

I made a run of this game. This run is 184035 frames faster than current published run. Here is the movie file. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1580284910/FFA_TAS.vbm I intended to submit, but I suspect that purchasing Axe wastes some frames (Japanese speedrunner Cheap's advice). So I regard it as a testrun and now I am making new run. It is halfway finished. 2 or 3 days later I am going to submit the complete one.

I recognized the desynchronization using the shown patch. In the Tropicallo fight, the movie with the patched rom gets less lags than the original one, only 1 frame. Even if retexturing hack of other games doesn't cause desynchronization (when compared to the original), still there may be a possibility that the total time of coloring process in Secret of Mana has something to do with the actually displayed color.

Thank you for your reply, neo_omegon. It's a bit funny we are talking in English. I will try to browse the posts and wips, some of which in fact I've already read or watched. As for B+R trick... This trick only allows me to make characters move without changing direction. Normally this does not save time, just enables me to make performance. But if a character's direction changes, a character's real size (used to calculate whether an enemy-attack hits the character or not) also slightly changes. So sometimes even this trick can save time to avoid an enemy, such as Green Drop (in my wip, around 37850th frame).

Unfortunately, improvement patch causes desynchronization around the battle against Tropicallo.
What is improvement patch? Sorry, I'm not familiar. At any rate, my movie doesn't desync when I play the smv with Snes9x-1.51-rr at least.

This is the first time for me to post here. I've made the run of this game.

I noticed the route in Potos between Touch-me and Gorash was a little different so I made a short impromptu comparison video. The left is from Touch-me and the right is from Gorash. Sorry for no-audio and bad quality.
Thank you for uploading the file. Now I am making the TAS-wip of Secret of Mana (U) . In that run, I took another route, which seems to be as fast as Gorash's one... perhaps. I cannot upload the older smv for some private reason. Here's the new wip until the entrance of Haunted Forest. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/947494821/SoM_touchme.smv Because of the using of the English version, this movie is longer than previous one. However, I could make some progress including... Changing routes that seem faster, reconsidering when to sprint. Smoothing of luck manipulation. Rebuilding the way of walking on the stairs according to the 4-frame rule. In addition, there's new trick about the usage of Magic Rope. For example: When leaving Dwarf Village with the rope, go down the stairs to change maps. Then player characters automatically walk downward in the screen without wasting time before you play. This can save about 20 frames to go out of the cave of Gaia's Navel.
