It could just be a text control code (which would explain why it's only when text is drawn that it fades out)
...
Regarding obsoletion: this is one of those iffy runs that may not be possible on real hardware. Especially since, by definition, a "frame" is a specific moment of the system's operation... whereas actually attempting this could easily land between frames in the middle of code execution.
I would rather have a "possible" and "questionable" category rather than relying on this one alone to be on the safe side...
Nobody here cares about the language. Hell, it isn't even taught very well; it's all about "literature" and "writing" (essays and the like), very little on language syntax and proofreading and all that shit.
Vincent from Web Pages That Suck seems to have similar ideas:
You might want to utilize the forums for feedback on games before you submit them.
I strongly disagree with this idea for games that aren't "obvious smash hits" (e.g. the 3 instant-publish series here); for movies after the first published one, of course, but if it's something else, it's better to submit a finished movie than be shot down long before something finished comes out.
That way those of us who would enjoy the game anyway can still enjoy it, even if it doesn't succeed here.
Personally I would like to see a high-score run (or at least an impressive one) ... maybe one of the other game modes?
[EDIT by Bisqwit: "Fixing" quotes of others by changing the quoted content is not allowed on this board's rules. Deleting post content.]
I'm sorry, but: what?
So magically turning something into an image avoids all the rules? Or is this just another Bisqwitism?
It seems remarkably unintelligent to quote (which that is) something, edit it, post it, and then delete another post for doing exactly that.
Unless you're going to somehow argue that using an image magically makes everything okay.
This movie is not to obsolete my current one, or to be placed on side of it. it is simply a movie to entertain.
If that is the case, I would much rather see a movie that goes to a lot more places and collects a lot more things. Sort of like one of the Umihara Kiwase* runs.
You could even show off the credits, ol' blue head, and maybe some of the secrets in the game. Being longer may make it a bit less fun to watch for some people, but at least I would enjoy it.
here it is. It's a bit unweildly, but just click one of the links in the top grid to view a level. Feel free to ask me any questions about what anything means.
The doors shown in maps:
doorID
to level
...if you use the * link instead of the number, it'll show "to doorID" (useful in the main listing).
Before anybody asks, yes, the items really are there, and yes, there really is a door hidden in a wall (but it won't show up) ...
Really, this game is pretty much nuts.
Edit: Oh, yeah. Level 99 gets a door back to 6 after you save Ikki, but it isn't shown here (it's not a real door in terms of game data; manually added by code later), so you can continue.
I actually suspect that's why the game doesn't end right away; it shows a treasure count, and I suspect that the real "goal" of the game is to get as much treasure as possible, not just free Ikki :P
Edit: Yeah, shut up.
Map of game (13K).
Computer-exploding of game (439K). View at own risk.
YOu could always take a more exploration-based approach though the game instead of just going though a few rooms.
I have complete data-based maps of each room and item if you want them.
I'll echo the triple play opportunity, although I'm not sure if it's possible to try to get the opponent to attempt a double steal (or a hit and run). But it was immensely enjoyable, especially after getting my ass kicked by my old roommate at this game. Yes vote.
The AI never runs during a fly ball until it has 2 outs, and at that point getting an out will end the inning.
Simply put, not possible with one player.
"The Minus World" could be updated to mention the FDS version of SMB (also the first url doesn't work).
I just removed those URLs. Why bother having them? They give no useful information (it's all fake) anyway...
I also added some crap to that section explaining the path the FDS version takes and linked to this movie.
I am voting "no" because version changes that are only changes to remove text are stupid.
If the Japanese version included some massive glitch the US version didn't, then I would not mind. But there's no difference other than text.
There is a precedent here that version changes only due to text amount/speed are usually not allowed and I hope that is upheld here.
Edit: Basically what DrJones said.
Somebody should change this to read FDS Super Mario Bros., because it is most definitely not the NES version.
No opinion since it's not something unexpected.
Honestly, if people marking up the price of a video game is enough to throw you in to this much of a frenzy, you must lead a very simple life.
I think it's more the fact that it's being marked up unfairly.
If you wanted something your cousin bought for $500 and they wanted to charge you $1000 for the same thing, you might be a bit peeved as well.
But I guess it's just easier to throw out badly disguised insults.
It still baffles me why hacks and cheats aren't accepted because "the game must be real", "played with authentic hardware", "familiar to the audience", and then all concentration and work on this game go to the broken PAL version which doesn't have the same physics as the REAL GAME.
This run is boring.
However, only if watched in long bursts. I find it becomes immensely enjoyable if you take a break from it every 5 minutes or so to talk on IRC for about 30 seconds, then resume the movie.
That's what it must be like to be ADHD, I guess.
Not everyone who has ADHD has trouble watching long movies. I always am watching movies of great length all the time. In fact, I find it hard how people do get bored of movies longer than 5 minutes, even though I too have ADHD. Just like people are unique, ADHD is unique with each person.
I can watch long movies as well. I'll only stop if something else needs my attention, e.g. laundry or time-critical whateverage.
This movie is an exception and I am not exactly sure how to react to Bisqwit's overgeneralization...
So this resets the game during a save causing corruption to progress?
Hmm sounds a teeny bit sketchy, but you won't hear any complaints from me at least. I'll be watching this when I have access to my emulators.
Yeah, that's a bit iffy... does anybody know to what extent this can be replicated on a real GBC?
I mean, assumedly, if it can be done on a GBC with perfect timing, then it should be fine here, I'd think, but...
