Really enjoyed this movie! I hope there'll be more entertainment-focused runs of beat-em-ups in the future.

Just read it, it's cool. I don't remember hiring Ian back when I played Fallout, is he really being integrated into the story so much or did you make that up?

Liked the movie a lot! Yes, the ending is very sad (plus cheesy). Cheerios to Gunty for adding another successfully done RPG run to the list.

Finally the european release is upon us and: I GOT ONE TODAY (woot). In Germany that is. Got up at 8am, waited 1.5h for the store (Saturn) to open. Was first in line, about 30 people behind me. Too bad the store didn't have more than 12 Wiis for sale (the clerk told me yesterday, he said I'd have to be quick to surely get one). It felt weird sprinting through the store like a geek on speed, but who cares, since I actually am kinda geeky and sportive. Therefore this is the cost of having awesome fun with a kickass console: So be it! Zelda is absolutely stunning by the way and Wii Play is TONS of fun, can't get enough of that Wii pose game! Besides: The console is very sleek and sexy, style seems to be somewhat copied from the whitish iPod/iMac designs.

I watched 2001 just two days ago and now find this hell of a discussion about it here. xebra, I don't share your views about this movie and since most has alerady been said, I can only add that it's one's interpretation that makes this movie stunning and worthwhile. And there is a lot to see and understand. Kubrick has given a summary of the development of human intelligence (and to a little part technology), the risks of artificial intelligence and a speculation of the final evolutional step for human intelligence. I don't think that this is a boring diamond-crusted piece of shit, actually I consider it pretty interesting. But yes I know, it's not important what I think, since it's subjective (what a silly point of view to think that everything subjective is not worth telling.. after all it was xebra's subjective view that started this thread). I just thought you probably didn't grasp everything that this movie wanted to tell. About the slowness: People in '68 (just like today) didn't know a whole lot about how life and work happen in space. They didn't realize that zero-gravity changes everything for humans, who are used to earth's gravity. The slowness simply conveys a REALISTIC feel for how we are forced to do things in space. Like someone else has said: You won't find zap zap Luke I'm your father aliens look like radioactive mutants and sell space peanuts in this movie. The bone scene is not just about monkeys beating the crap out of each other with bones. First they see the black monolith and go completely bonkers. Why? Because their soon-to-be-human brain grasps for the first time that things like design and crafting exist and they even consider it frightening and somewhat holy. This sparks their idea of using their little monkey brains, which later gets the monkey to THINK and use the bone as a tool (weapon). The abilty to use tools and craft is what has defined being human for a long time (altough anthropologists still debate about WHAT it is that makes us human). That's why this scene is called "Dawn of mankind" (or something like that). Everybody seemed to have understood the HAL scenes almost the same way, so no worries here. The final scene admittedly is hard to understand/ interpret and not really well done from what I can tell. Someone else has already stated what it is about: Humans follow the unknown intelligence's call, that has in the monkey-age already given spark to human intelligence in the first place. By passing the second "test", which was space travel and being able to interpret the electromagnetic signals sent by the monolith on the moon in Jupiter's direction, they find the last monolith floating in space. The reward is the advancement into a new stage of being, which Kubrick/ Clarke saw.. as a child floating in space. Well yeah, whatever, but if anything one could try to understand that human development does not stop and that it keeps evolving. Into what we just don't know.

Are the games location restricted? Like will J U and E be restricted to their continents again? Or like the DS, it doesn't matter? It takes another month before the Wii hits the Dutch stores, and I don't want Dutch (subbed/subtitled) games.
Yes, the Wii station and games are region-locked.

I personally use and LOVE Plextor. Best burners I've ever had.
Plextor has always had the reputation of making the best CD/DVD drives and burners. They are somewhat expensive. I got a Plextor IDE DVD-ROM and SATA DVD burner. While the DVD-ROM (PX-130A) still works fantastic, the DVD burner (PX-712SA) won't burn DVDs anymore, only CDs. No DVD burners from Plextor for me anymore: If something costs ~120€ it has got to work perfectly.

That's what I'm doing now. 2 gigs worth of music.. equals about 30 hours of listening in this case. Quite a lot of tunes to sort for quality. I'm impressed though, loads of good stuff in there. And yes, x|d (i.e. Psilodump) kicks ass! My fav still is Nullsleep - Destination Tomorrow [GB Version] though.

You hit it spot on with Welle: Erdball! Thanks a bunch! They are touring through Germany, maybe I'll go see them when they drop by in Augsburg on 20th October. It may not be Game Boy chiptune, but it's C64 music + analog synths nontheless, so it should still have that weird nostaliga video game sound.

I remembered having heard of people who use a special Game Boy software to create their own songs, using original Game Boy and cartridge sounds. Wikipedia spat out the (most popular's) software's name is LittleSoundDJ. Popular artists (to be exact: the only ones I found with their songs downloadable online) are Nullsleep, USK, Covox and Bit Shifter among others. They collaborate under the name of 8bitpeoples. I don't mean to advertise too much, but you should give Nullsleep's (or any 8bitpeoples' artists!) songs a try.. I'm going to listen to 8bp-nullsleep-destination_tomorrow_[gb_version].mp3 until my head explodes. Which brings up the question: Does anybody know, if one of these artists or any other chiptune musician can be seen in Germany/ Central Europe? Just imagine: Dressing up like this, getting boozed up and finally losing mental health. AWESOME More info: Chiptune Bitpop Gamewave

Nice to read you overcame the king and are continuing the run. As much as I would like to help you, I'm not much of a RAM reader or HEX-editor.. sry about that. But keep in mind: ANY quality speedrun (without major mistakes like wasted/ missed shots, faulty routes, wasted frames etc.) should do fine, as it stands for itself as a first TAS and can be improved later. EDIT: Previous edit deleted. I was dumb.

So glad you're doing this Maximus, good luck. And yes, the old thread definitely has some noteworthy ideas in it! It often is a shame to see how a lot of effort is not transferred into a realized run. Not whining though, as I could've just as well ran it myself.. but.. uh.. [insert valid excuse here].

Agreed, the low health beep was not disturbing that much, neither was the backward walking. Since I never played the N64 Zelda this movie pretty much rocked, every Zelda game is such a gem.. One more thing about not picking up hearts because of wasted frames: I think there were one or two situations, in which Link had to wait for a door to open after defeating all enemies in a room, and therefore would have had the time for picking up hearts, but didn't. Guess the time for picking them up and running back would have wasted frames, but oh well.. 1 wasted frame... Summarized: Good movie, am looking forward for an improved version.

Phew, that took a long time to watch. Liked the movie! It's a good game anyways and Earthbound just has that incredible weirdo appeal. Great luck manipulation, thanks for doing this run Halamantariel/ Nitrodon. There will be one day, when all quality SNES RPGs have a quality TAS done on them. And maybe there will be no more Pokeys around, and the sun will always shine <insert happy happy joy joy tune here>.

Four hours are long for a TAS, but this game is quite long, too, after all. The quality was really good as far as I could tell (yes I _did_ play the game). The way you beat some of the bosses is hilarious (lvl5 death? lol) and it's so nice to finally see this being done, FFs for sure aren't easy to speedrun. Mad props! YES vote.

Had me entertained throughout the whole run, excellent job JXQ! YES vote. Figuring out the route must have taken ages.. I'm very impressed. Unfortunately Samus wouldn't be very pretty after your movie with all that arm-pumping.. she'd look as if she'd be on steroids.

Voting YES - Support (discrete) Google Ads. If I understood correctly, they are only appearing on the homepage http://tasvideos.org/ , which is not bothersome. Besides, Bisqwit's storys about his broken cable (or was it DSL) modems made me feel bad for him, so hardware contributing funds seem just fair. And if you should happen to make giant profits of this (which I seriously doubt), you might as well have NESVIDEOS-T-Shirts produced for all the players (read: contributers) with that money. Uh.. time for me to finally contribute, too! :P

Nice movie Highness! The last bossfight was the most enjoyable part for me.. when Billy all of a sudden loaded a full clip/ revolver round into that Rose Cavalier just when he entered his "second form" XD

I played this game when I was a kid, think I only saw the end of the BMX thingy once or twice (pretty hard for me). The only thing I remember is that during one of the skateboarding times there was an earthquake or something spectacular. Voting yes because its interseting to see all the events beaten well.
Yes, I think they had several funny events built into that game. An UFO comes and captures one of the frisbee-players, if you wait too long. Or (haven't watched the video, so I don't know if he does it) you can hit a seagull with the hacky sack. The earthquake I have never witnessed, but that's a neat idea for the game, since California has these from time to time. EDIT: Okay, got to watch it. Of course the seagull was hit, who wouldn't have? :P It did indeed get a little dull at times, but not a lot more than other published movies have been. It was a pleasure to just see this thing getting ripped apart playing perfectly, too. I also liked the rollerskating part the most, since it was the hardest back when I played this pos on a C64. :D YES vote!

:D And for the non-German people a rough translation: Great movie, I'm waiting for the next.

Unfortuantely when watching this run I felt the same way others did: It hardly entertained me after the first two minutes. By no means I want to put down fuzi2's work, as numerous people monitored the various WIPs and said they were really well done. But the language barrier, the lack of action and the amount of roaming the map and skipping through novels of dialog destroyed it for me. Hopefully fuzi2 will pick up another RPG some time and others (who actually played this game) will get something out of this movie.

I can't believe you used Munch's Cry as an example, as it was exactly the classic I wanted to mario-paintenize :P The only thing bothering me now is: With originals.. that we want to copy.. and using tools to have their colors match the Mario Paint palette.. and perhaps using a program to get it drawn - there's not a whole lot of actual skill involved anymore, is there? Besides the cleverness of using these tools of course.

Hehe.. Or make Mona Lisa look like Zelda perhaps? =D
Although that's a really neat idea, I doubt that I have the artistic skills it'd take to accomplish something like that. Drawing a replica of the Mona Lisa in Mario Paint is a daunting task by itself already, not even speaking of any creative variations! So far I'd probably just go with (tool-assisted) speed-drawing a well known art classic.
