That this is only 28 minutes is pretty incredible. It's a testament to good RNG manipulation and great planning. That being said, I'm really looking forward to an encoder putting up a quick copy before xmas, lest I break down and reinstall VBA.
No installation is involved, just put VBA22.EXE in a directory somewhere and open the .GBA, .GBC, .SGB, and .GB files with it the only frustrating thing is re-setting the default file-handling behavior when I get a new version of VBA (I try to keep all the old ones around, in separate subdirectories of a big directory called GB that has all my Game Boy ROMs, in a big directory called games on my Desktop) Anyway I hope the submitter can hex-edit the submission to start from power-on instead of reset

There's still the matter of Mario 3, which takes quite a while longer than Mario USA or Mario 2 when TASed individually; in the quad run, only a few seconds could be saved if Mario USA were sped up and Mario 2 stalled, and as I mentioned earlier Mario USA is the only one without a timer (and also its mechanics are very different from the other three), so it makes sense to stall on that one.

The player seems to stall frequently in Mario USA, which is a good strategy because all of the other games have timers; Mario 1 is finished way before the others, and then Mario 2, and Mario 3 is finished a few seconds before Mario USA, while the ordering of the individual published TASes is Mario 1, Mario USA, Mario 2 shortly thereafter, and then Mario 3.

This does sync with VBA22, in case people don't like using interim svn builds, and as I said in the game's thread it lasts about 75:04 when you get through the credits.

Who is blocking you from YouTube? Anyway, the video shows frequent bomb-jumping to glitch through the floors to get into Tourian without needing to trick or freeze a Rio.

In case this ends up being submitted and someone wants to encode, the input lasts for a little over 68 minutes and the whole movie including credits will last about 75:04

On a related note, I now know why the music for the Star Road sounds to washed-out.

Why does the "key in keyhole" sound lack the upward pitch in all of the runs? It just seems to go down in pitch without going back up and peaking, and oddly it sounds like that in the SDA run too. Have I just lost my hearing since back when I was 7 and played that game almost every day?

ok, you should be able to create a single SMV that when played in snes9x along with the ROM will allow another user to watch your entire run the encodes are for the convenience of viewers; the input file is central, and although threads like these are okay for unpolished work-in-progress runs, your run should be optimized as much as possible given the current knowledge of any glitches before you submit it, and you should read the rules: http://tasvideos.org/Rules.html the guidelines: http://tasvideos.org/Guidelines.html and the tips to prevent desynching: http://tasvideos.org/DesyncHelpTAS.html

Just want to say thanks to the encoder. I really don't feel like downloading the emulator just for this one game, so it's nice to be able to youtube it. And of course thanks to the player as well, without whom there'd be no encode to encode.
Downloading the emulator isn't really the problem: It's the game, which is more than 500MB.

Aktan, you must have an insanely powerful computer to be able to encode the run in a couple hours; I remember when I encoded Lord Tom's 100% run it took about a day for all the steps to fully churn through (then again it was also 3 times as long).

Someone should make a GIF or APNG of this run, just like with Alden's gruefood run.

1c can be another clause in 1a, like "except when an item is replaced by a bottle via the duplication glitch" Also all instances of "i.e." (id est, "that is") should be replaced with "e.g." (exempli gratia, "by way of example")

IMO shit like that is supposedly typical of distros and that particular issue was merely used to illustrate the issue.

He posted two patched SVN builds (similar to the upgrade from 0.9.4 to 0.9.4+); 2872 was the relatively stable one and 2882 was more experimental, and he did not update them since then, though I imagine he will come out with a 0.9.5+ soon
