Translation: Smashola works on the SNES version but not GBA. However the star world 2 key is in a different place. Assuming マントアタック = Smashola

Can you make it play the notes that you have already typed? Being nearly tone deaf, Im finding it hard to make corrections to my search and need to hear it played.

I dont know. That would mean the second trip up to the house would then be "cleanup ". People would think... "ohh now he has to get that star he missed last time. " The other way people are left wondering "huh? why is he doing this again? I mean the first time was cool but why a second......... OMFGWTFBBQ!!!11!one!" Very surprising!

I dont think anything automatically obsoletes old runs... the publishers do that manually. Not 100% sure though.

Do we really need sub second precision? I know that of all the movies that have been obsoleted, only a handful are by less than one second. Personally I dont much care for a time of 59:17.97 Maybe rounding to a tenth of a second is good enough? 59:17.9 That seems more natural.

And I'd label it as "doesn't hit any cap switch" instead of "doesn't use caps".
I'm curious why this distinction... do you expect a good reason to enter cap areas without picking up any coins? I think it reasonable to just say that I dont expect mario to ever be shiny, transparent, or with wings out of his head. But yeah if you want to use that glitch you would have to manage to not collect those coins. It's not a huge loss to not do lobby glitch as the star selection wouldnt be any different... AKA and Rikku's runs both feature it too. EDIT Ohh I get it FODA. Is it because at the end mario flies off after beating Bowser?

It's impossible... I've tried every angle I could. Then again...those coins don't really count as coins, since the game doesn't add them into the memory once they're picked up........ Or maybe they do.
You can't collect those just like you can't collect any in PSS or you cant collect the red coins stars in the cap areas. Looks like lobby glitch is out... :-/ it's ironic that you don't get to show off your own glitch.

Doh, have you tried starting the BLJ in different positions/angles? If it is possible to stand on either of those platforms without picking up coins then you should have enough room.

Shouldnt you be able to do the chuckya star in the first try? Remember you have rerecording. I've definitely gotten it on a console in just a few tries after by getting lucky. A test run should really be using the route you intend on using in a real run... just with unoptimized movements. It's kinda hard to give feedback if you intend on using a different strategy... but I'll try anyway! Im not sure if lobby glitching into PSS is worthwhile since you have to go through that door twice. You should collect the sub star in DDD second to last so you can jump into the water quicker (the manta ray star must follow it). In BB you should be using the BLJ strategy more from AKA's or FODA's run, but you said that already. And use the jump instead of the owl in WF. Actually you are pretty much expected to match or beat all the applicable stars from their runs anyway to get published :)

Well you could just save before the point and reload right? Did you figure out what affects the transformation? Hopefully its something easy like the time or position you cross the load zone...

Nice! And pretty recent too... its nice to know that SM64 still has a bleeding edge.. The thing I am most looking forward to in a CCC TAS is the chuckya glitch in WDW. That should be amazing :)

It looks like you've mixed up Wing Mario over the Rainbow with Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The latter was recently proved to be possible, so it's not on the list.
LOL yeah I thought "Mario Wings to the Sky" was that one! But I guess thats the BB one.. oops. I am curious how the Rainbow one is collected :)

Since this is a Cap-less TAS, does this also mean you qwill be losing Mario's normal cap to the Buzzard in Shifting Sand Land as soon as possible? ;3
Heh thats taking things pretty literally :) Of the impossible ones listed I think these are the ones most likely to be collectable in a TAS. Wing Mario over the Rainbow - You would need to find a BLJ oppurtunity either on the ship or (more likely) on a flying carpet. FODA showed BLJ was possible on the carpets for that big house star, if you can get enough speed from there you could make it... Eye to Eye in the secret room Either BLJ through or find a way to get the boo to push you? Big Penguin Race Slip Slidin' Away Snowman's Lost his head - Well for these you would need to somehow be able to enter the chimney through its side... You would need a lot of speed.. Collect the Caps... - If you can get through a wall you should be able to swim outside of the walls and navigate to inside the cage from there. BTW: Everyone else sees mr_roberts_z's avatar as that AVATARITY.COM ad right? I was browsing this forum one day in IE and saw it was supposed to be a tiger or something. I never knew this since Firefox has always showed it to be that ad though.... you should get a different host :P

Thinking about it the movie length and rerecords are likely both lognormal distributions A logarithmic scale would be a good idea. A good way to keep the bins from affecting the shape of the distribution might be to normalize each bar by dividing the count by the bin width... that will give a normalized density. As for bins and other graphs... if you can provide an excel spreadsheet or text file with movie times/rerecords/publish dates/etc I would be happy to do some investigation into what looks nice/meaningful. Publish dates / month seems like an easy one right now to investigate that will show a good graph of this site's history and allow you to figure out how to make graphics.

However, that's not the main problem here. The problem is: What would be the units in the x and y axes be in that kind of graph? Assuming that, for example, the y axis is the movie length (eg. in minutes) or the amount of rerecords, what would the x axis be?
Y-axis is number of movies X-axis is the the length or rerecords etc so you see the movie distribution of how many are what size. These are likely bargraphs. I guess you can also do X-Y scatter plots of rerecords to movie lengths... or rerecord rates to movie length... I would suspect that longer movies have smaller rerecord rates You might have to choose the x-axis to be logarithmic since some of the submissions are hours long.

How hard is it to show a histogram or a graph that gives the distribution of Movie Length, Re-records, rerecord/length, Age, a few others? I think there is enough data to make pretty graphs.

This flurry of runs coming off the queue is good work :) Bisqwits encoding style seems very Linux oriented and I don't know how portable it would be. Is his method a good example to follow? What tools and process do the other encoders use? Now I know what I consider is a fair amount about codecs, for instance I know the difference between and I-frame a B-frame, and a P-frame, but I dont about making a logo or subtitle file... Would that subtitle just be the same as a .SRT file you find with foreign language movies? And you can just encode that into a video after the final pass? Does that provide the black background to the subtitles too or is that seperate? How about a recommendation on tools and methods for an animated logo? I know Bisqwit is fancy with his alpha blending but a simple stock animation that can be prepended to the video stream is fine. Do people just render an animation in something like Flash, convert it to AVI, and prepend? These are the types of questions I am left with after viewing the Encoder guide. As for publishing. The screenshot is taken from the emulator or movie file? For N64 the video settings when rendering the video are typically very different from when watching the movie. Should screenshots be taken at a high resolution and interpolated down?

I dont suppose in avis we can have the total time at the end of the filename? I sometimes have difficulty in remembering which author obsoletes the other when organizing my avis.

I agree that encoding/publishing on this site seems to need a little tweeking. Though I'm not sure which to address first.. http://tasvideos.org/Users.html Not enough encoders? Maybe we should work on automating the process more? The process seems much easier for SNES games and NES games. Perhaps the site should be distributing a simple encoding 'kit' that comes as a snapshot containing everything you need to encode from the codecs to subtitles and basic logo support? That would be more friendly then the wiki I think. The aspect that I currently do not know how to accomplish is the inserting of logo/subtitle and the wiki does not address that at all. I know there are many ways but providing a single way would be beneficial. As for publishers... they have to write the blurb, pick a screenshot, and judge video quality and name. Currently there are fewer publishers than judges and I don't think thats necessarily efficient. Perhaps publishing should be more open and a new position of "publisher judge" gives the final OK for content to make it to the main page? Just some ideas.

This site has published fighting games before that were neither fast nor high-scoring. Ultimately what it comes down to is whether the run was entertaining and well made. For me that answer was yes.
