As funny as that image is, I think word screenshots are discouraged. A lot of people wanted the "It's not a simple tas" screenshot for Majora's Mask, too.

For the TAS, the odd Mushroom timer can be extended if absolutely necessary with the navi-during-sidehop technique used in SL's MST's Fire Temple, right? And as for the RTS, every run of ZFG's seems to involve leaving Lon Lon ranch as adult, twice, with a lot of sidehops along the farm wall, when I'm sure I've read balkwalking long distances is always faster.

Eh, stab in the dark, surprised it was so close. I'm sure I'll be right eventually, especially if we stay off-topic :P I'll refrain from posting any more off-topic stuff in this thread though.

As unfortunate as it may be, the mere acceptance of this run proves that rules don't actually matter when a high-profile run is involved.
Sadly, the site has a long history of giving preferential treatment to popular games. This run was claimed for judging within 30 hours of submission, while these other four runs, all submitted earlier, are still unclaimed after 1-3 weeks. Also note that the total combined length of those four is shorter than this one.
Sigh. Or the judges are more familiar with the game and can decide quicker. Or the judges have a busy life and pay attention to what they know before dealing with what they don't. Or it's being swept under the rug. Or the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Look how ridiculous this thread got, as far as rule upholders, minimods, and newly registered accounts arguing a position or just flaming, while waiting for judges to decide. I'm sure the post count in those 4 threads combined isn't a quarter what this thread's is, as if numbers prove anything. Or it doesn't matter :)

I really think it needs to be all or nothing. If you need to be Knuckles to get all of the rings, play as Knuckles.
unfortunately there is no way (determined in the run's discussion thread) to collect every ring as knuckles either. The ring in Aquatic Ruin Zone 2 depends on having tails offscreen colliding with ring hit boxes but not sprites. There is no Knuckles+Tails mode. Plus a few levels would be much slower with Knuckles instead of Sonic+Tails.

If some of the rings really are totally impossible no matter what, that kind of makes the run impossible.
In the run's discussion thread I put forth a compromise goal, "All free floating rings known to be collectible in each zone". In a future version of this run, that would allow all the things people have suggested here, including: - powering through in-the-way ring TV monitors (though that might have been avoided for aesthetic reasons, so the ring counter at the end is X, the number of free floating rings in the level, not X+K*10, if that makes sense... Same reason damage was avoided) - playing levels where some rings are unreachable - getting all the rings even when you aren't rewarded by a tally like wing fortress zone (but in the game's code, there is still a countdown value in those levels!) But "Perfect Bonus" would still be a descriptive and short branch name...

I don't think it will be that drastic. It's just various members stating opinions. Only like 5 or 6 people are trying to convince everyone else how wrong they are. It probably wouldn't be a bad thing if a moderator just deleted all posts with a personal attack to make this thread cleaner and cool down people who are newly reading through and responding, instead of just a warning. Trolling is funny (like the post about how the run should be redone because ocarina green hill zone was a bad choice), but actual flames aren't cool. If that happens and this post is made irrelevant that would be super cool :) On topic: I watched the cutsceneless version and my brain had trouble processing the amount of action. The cutscenes give the viewer a breather to process how awesome this run is.

Oh, I think it's pretty obvious he's not.
I suppose there are maybe a couple that don't want to see stick on B ever, even if it is faster.
You know, it's more than just the moon texture. It's also the "You must use the Classic Controller" on boot and reset, and I think fire temple music, and probably a few other things. But why would you make an emulator for one game when a wii emulator able to play VC wads could just play ANY VC game? And if you just re-purpose mupen, you end up with Atma's point, that relying on a known emulation glitch for the system the emulator purports to emulate is going to be rejected. Sure, maybe proof-of-concept for when wii emulation is more mature, but other than that.... Also, Hophoolio and petrie911, I point you here :)

yes, that’s what I meant… why would you need the level’s borders for it to work?
Maybe there's something I'm missing, but since the tops of the pillars are beneath cement and lava... ... wouldn't you need to go beyond the sides of that container and use the level borders to gain any more height? That's what I thought was the point of asking about the WK-ability of the invisible walls.

It's a shame the final levels don't give you the visual satisfaction of the Perfect Bonus since they lack score tallies, but overall I love this run. Felipe should definitely have a shot at the "Best TAS Newcomer" award for 2012, if such a thing exists :P Obvious yes vote.

Yay. but if it's possible to update the submission, I made 2 mistakes. At the start of the metropolis 1 comments, it says "Since zone that" but it should be "Since this is a zone that". And for Metropolis 3, instead of "we need to do 3rd quick spindashes" it should be "we need to do 3 quick spindashes" Now I'll watch the end and vote

I love how runs like this cause double drama. Once when they are discussed in the game thread, and once in the submission. Lighten up, guys. Anyway, the run was very entertaining to me, and had lots of fun moments and surprises. The submission text was almost an integral part of the run too, so maybe instead of a cutsceneless version (which I see is being made for nicovideo already) someone here could make a voiceover track and read from the submission as the run progresses. And maybe eat a sandwich at one point :) Regardless, whole-hearted yes-vote! Oh, and here's some bold because apparently that's a thing now.

Wall kicking on those pillars would take far too long, and no you can't. Otherwise it would've been done forever ago. =P
I think he meant using the BLJ and pole as in the youtube videos, but hit the 45-degree-angle of the pillars to start WKing up them. but if the level borders can't be kicked, that doesn't help.

WIP Translation: http://www.mediafire.com/?t2i2msb8wroonhx I did most of it, but there were things I was too unsure of so I left them in Spanish, colored red. Anyone feel free to do those parts or double check my work, or I'll ask the person I mentioned earlier for help when they are available.

Thank you. I have little fluency in English so I would be helpful to someone who knows Spanish and English translate. I have the information in HTML code, that use external links as a menu of contents, tables, titles and definitions. I do not know if I send the HTML code or HTML file, what you say?
I replied in PM.

Amazing stuff in all the new levels, and not much more to go until it's done! I recommend sending your submission text to someone to help with English before submitting. You can PM me if you want, or maybe you can write it in Spanish and someone fluent in both languages can help.

Btw. just noticed that Jabo 1.6 actually can emulate deku stick on B. Problem is different than other graphic plugins it won't just continue running when it encounters inconsistencies. It will throw an error box and pause emulation. But between error boxes you can get input in (use stick, break stick) and if you put the stick away the game continues to run normally. Ofcourse that doesn't help with the TAS, but I thought it was interesting.
sounds like a programmer could write a wrapper for the .dll that steals the messagebox API calls to prevent that, assuming it's using standard windows stuff.

Da rules clearly state that a game is completed when it shows "the end" or an aquivalent, when it doesn't have "the end". That's really clear cut
I think the point of contention is that the rules also clearly state "It must beat the game." So, "Is just satisfying the_end/credits requirement enough for the game to be considered beaten?" follows with no clear answer and movies where this distinction needs to be made are always case-by-case judgements. And everyone has an opinion.

I don't see the problem with obsoletion... This is similar to the SMW situation in that it doesn't fight the final boss, but dissimilar in that it has more gameplay. Also, the current any% is nothing like what the designers expected for a quick completion anyway. ALSO, this debate here an now is going to be forgotten by the time the run is completed and will be repeated in the submission thread so no point in arguing for 6 pages right now :P

Thank you! As for YouTube... Who knows. Many of their competitors have had 60fps for a while, but YouTube instead focuses on stuff like 8K and 3d. Which are nice, but kind of niche compared to video games, screen captures, sports, and now even smartphone (720p) video captures all at 60fps. :/

I'd like smv's if you don't mind. My bandwidth is limited to 2G mobile internet speeds at home, and snes9x's 60fps hq4x is AT LEAST eight times better than YouTube's 30fps 1x :)

Just watched it! Some comments: ARZ2:, I liked the old sinking sonic at the end better than the levitating sonic, but they are both funny :) CNZ1: hoooooly crap. Everything from the fast-diagonal-spring-release to very fast pace thanks to speed-shoes made for a very entertaining watch! Highlight of the run so far. HTZ2: great stuff while waiting for the rising hill in the cave. MCZ1: fantastic use of tails, throughout. In summary: You deserve your rest!

I'm not sure I understand from your posts... Are you skipping CNZ2 now so you can hex it later? If so, are you sure there are no repercussions for things like timed objects?
