You're talking about this run, right? If so, why not call it playaround? (Just to put the reason clear.)

If we end up with that, I even doubt now that the faster run could obsolete it. It would just be a speedrun branch. At least if one wants to make such a run, he should go for speed. Would a golf tas aiming for speed make sense?

McBobX's, we would put your encode into the publication if you paste the following description to it:
This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see http://tasvideos.org/2548M.html

This is a really fast TAS through Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance played as Maxim, who is only available after the game is beaten. Unlike in the glitch-warped run (http://tasvideos.org/1899M.html) , the protagonist doesn't directly fight Dracula and instead defeats every boss, reaching Dracula the intended way. However, this doesn't stop Maxim from making short work of every boss and sinking into walls wherever he wants.

This category obsoletes the in-bounds Maxim run (http://tasvideos.org/1162M.html) because, even though they don't have the same goals, out-of-bounds tricks were deemed more entertaining.

McBobX's run in this category saves about 1:50.95 () over the previous movie due to route changes and optimization.

Note: This movie starts where the main quest movie (http://tasvideos.org/2344M.html) left off. We don't usually accept movies beginning from a save, though. Please read our rules (http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html) to see our reasons.

A few points:  1. This is a definite Moon.  2. What would be the proper category name?  3. Even if it can be done faster, there were little to no complaints about it, and it seems to be not obvious for an average TAS viewer. So I am leaning towards accepting it for now, and then obsoleting it once some suggestions from this thread are applied.

Since it now says "this category obsoletes", it's perfectly ok even for a few future runs in the same branch..

I forgot to mention that thing btw. I personally disagree with upscaling the gameplay resolution to whatever resolution menus/feature screens are in, just because it gives it too much distortion in my opinion. I prefer downscaling the latter to the real gameplay resolution, and then, if it's too narrow (like here), let the player fix it, and if gameplay is in 4:3, it's the best case possible and nothing at all is distorted. What do you guys think? That issue cause the latest MMX6 publication to have a blurred screenshot and I assume the very video looks the same.

Maybe speed isn't the real factor to merit playarounds (like, if something may be done faster it must be done faster), but it looks like the characters weren't thoroughly compared, so even as a playaround it may be suboptimal to use one that isn't the best in some sense. So it should be examined which character gives what benefits, and if "Fernando Almeida" goes better, the author should switch to him. But it may appear as not worthy as well, all would depend on how they look like, compared to each other.

As Warp stated, if a movie has a goal that disallows it to be the fastest branch (except for difficulty setting), it should have a label. So, for MMX1, full completion doesn't disallow it being fastest possible, so the label is omitted, otherwise it isn't. This way, once the any% run appears for a game that already has the full completion branch, you don't need to relabel anything.

No. The speedrunners have a glitched branch (skipping to the end) and a no glitch branch in FFIV. It was mentioned in AGDQ14.
What would the current movie's branch be then?

Taking into account SM64 and Super Metroid cases (and some others), it should be "0%".

Is 0% Metroid Fusion really the fastest possible branch? http://tasvideos.org/836M.html

Precise luck manipulation may involve debugging the code (figuring out what code writes to what address and why). But sometimes simple TASing approach helps to find out the reason. But yeah, not knowing that reason at all may lead to huge sub-optimality.

If I remember correct, your run had no sound at all. It would really sound like a reject reason. But 1) the Pepsiman game has correct video and sound effects, and 2) seeing at how it is supported right now, I don't foresee any solution for this game within a few years, so: for now it's better to have this run published, especially when the music can be edited in afterwards.

This does look like a consensus. And it is how Moons should work for publishing branches: if some submission shows unique content over all existing branches, and is liked, it's published as a new branch. If a submission has goals and/or execution quite similar to some existing branch, and IS BETTER, one obsoletes another. And posts point out the obsoletion matter clearly, so I feel no disagreement with this movie obsoleting the in-bounds run. Also, how about reducing the label "Maxim version/mode" to just "Maxim"?
