This is overscan, and it's supposed to be present for proper aspect ratio correction. Previous SMS publications were not properly aspect-corrected at all (or just kind of), because overscan was never implemented in either Dega or earlier versions of BizHawk. But....yeah, you can also read the discussion from this thread, ultimately culminating into implementing overscan in BizHawk.

From the Movie Rules page:
NTSC vs PAL (USA/Japan vs Europe) Console versions of PAL games run at a lower framerate than NTSC games, running at ~50Hz compared to NTSC's ~60Hz, and the games themselves are often not modified or poorly modified to accommodate to the change in timing. Due to this, PAL versions of ROMs are generally not allowed, unless there are significant technical and/or entertainment merits to using this version. See Rygar and Blaster Master for examples of good usage of the PAL ROM.
Except it's not really relevant in this case, since NSMBWii is a game that supports PAL60 (and thus can run at 60 FPS on a PAL Wii). Therefore, the only question remains if this run was indeed made on PAL60 mode or on regular PAL (50 Hz) mode. Nevermind that, it was done on PAL60 mode. EDIT: Actually, what I'm more wondering about is why you have a Gamecube controller plugged in and a memory card inserted. Both are completely irrelevant for NSMBWii (since it doesn't support the former, and the latter is for GC only). By the way, Idle Skipping was left enabled. That may cause desyncs.

We, the authors, are asking TASVideos staff to not convert our .m64 submission to a .bk2 file before publication for the following reasons: - Easier to directly compare with the previous submission after such a big change - Final Mupen time (4'21"67) is closer to the final console time (4'22"6x) than BizHawk (4'24"28) - Mupen has always been the timing standard for the SM64 TAS community, and we'd prefer it that way 1 last time - Deadline for submitting .m64 files has not been reached - The official author YouTube encode subtitles are final - Save BK2 update for next smaller improvement We hope this discussion stays between authors and moderators, thank you :)
After discussing with feos on the matter, we've decided to honour your request of keeping it as a .m64 for publication. Therefore, this submission will not be converted to .bk2 prior to publication.

For recent Sega Master System movies, and only in case the TAS syncs on BizHawk 1.11.7 or later (likely), you need to display the overscan for proper aspect correction. To do so, simply check "Display Overscan" on the SMS menu. However, since you're going to have an uneven height (243 lines), you need to add a 244th scanline, with this line (provided by creaothceann):
Language: Avisynth

StackVertical(last, Crop(0, Height-1, 0, 0))

It won't appear in the September rankings at all, since it's only going to include runs done in September 2016. There may be a chance it may appear in the year-end ranking (which is going to be uploaded in late December 2016), though. But...yeah, as I noted in my comments, had AoS all souls been finished and uploaded earlier in August, it probably would've made to the top 3. EDIT: Oh, by the way, I don't find #2 that impressive by virtue of using a cheat code.

The UFO grossly overstays its welcome (not helped by the fact that it ruins the music in the process). Really, the only parts I enjoyed were those where the UFO wasn't present. At that point, I'd much rather see a TAS without the UFO (even if it's slower). Voting no for entertainment.

Not like anyone here even remotely cares about ZSNES (especially considering it's horrifically inaccurate).

To go on further with what GoddessMaria said, you should stop being so defensive when it comes to your own submissions. Just something I'd like to point out.

Especially since it was made on Famtasia, on top of that. And besides, we technically already have a TAS that uses a suboptimal character, namely the princess-only run.

It works now. I can download without any issues. The only thing is that now the MP4 file is above the MKV. (Usually, the modern MKV file goes first.) Is this something that should be changed?
I personally don't think it even matters. I mean, the descriptors of the encodes should be a good enough indicator of what you're going to download.

Ah good, just what I needed. Thanks for the new build. (I can confirm it dumps AVI at the intended framerate (for GBA, at least) without any issues)

Yes, there is supposed to be one. It's not an emulation bug.

Not at all. (okay, this is from 2004, but this is among the oldest working Wayback Machine captures. In fact, the Wayback Machine doesn't have any captures from 2003.)

This is how it looks like on higan v098 (with blurring enabled in Settings -> Video Emulation): It likely looks like this on a TV as well. If I disable blurring, I get the first screenshot orugari posted. EDIT: What creaothceann said is correct, by the way. The game uses pseudo-hires for transparency effects. Here's a small AviSynth sample script:
Language: Avisynth

AVISource("Dragon View (USA)_1.avi") #load hi-res'd AVI Blur(1.00) #apply blurring required
Result: (obviously, it also makes the status bar blurrier) ...or downscale it to 256x224 with LanczosResize:
Language: Avisynth

AVISource("Dragon View (USA)_1.avi") LanczosResize(256, 224)
EDIT 2: For the record, orugari's second screenshot was taken on ZSNES, which is notoriously inaccurate at everything.

A speedrun (kind of, since I still died twice, and played safe most of the time) of SMB2 in 14 minutes and 10 seconds, played by me: Link to video

I stumbled onto a trick/glitch which could potentially improve the TASes (the runner dubbed it "FUS RO WART", see at 0:42 and further). (likely frame-perfect) From the video description (translated from French): "It's frame perfect between his hit cooldown and his prolonged blinking of pre-petrification ([on his] death animation he "chews" the veggie twice and upon his death he leaves it wide open, on the glitched sprite the mouth is wide open after 2 "chews")." However, it should be pointed out that he loses two cycles due to a veggie disappearing and a missed veggie throw, and, from what I've been told, you still lose some time (about 1-1.5 seconds) if you only lose one cycle. So, I've been wondering if it actually *could* improve the TASes, assuming you don't lose any cycles. EDIT: So it is slower in the end. Ah well.
