I feel the way it ends right now is fine. After all, an ending point was reached.

Does any GameMaker: Studio Linux runner executable work, or do you need the one from Ryuku?

I approve of the change in administration. It was getting really frustrating to work with him in any meaningful way, and I'm glad that we're finally undergoing positive changes for the site.

In my opinion, we can transition away from the modern HQ MKV encodes, as sometimes, subtitle placement can be a bit of a hassle to figure out or, worse, the resulting output is completely blurry (see any recent A2600 encode). Not only that, but sometimes, there's not even any real filesize benefit to it, despite dedupping and the like. Moreover, at native res, subtitle placement can be really tricky either. At twice the native res, most, if not all placement issues, especially for handhelds like GB, will be solved.

If you wish to sorta simulate how it looks like on the modern MKV encode, you can set handheld to true and set the subtitle positioning this way. Do bear in mind that it affects the positioning for the other encodes.

The second subtitle isn't properly aligned to the bottom right corner. A simple newline before the first line should fix that.

I can't get this TAS to sync for some reason. In 5-1, after the checkpoint, Mario gets hit by the spike ball from a Ptooie, thus missing the ground later for me. I tried both versions 1.01 and 1.02 of the Japanese version (both match Redump), but to no avail.

Normally, we don't include the system in the subtitles, but I'm willing to let it slide here. I feel you primarily included it in order to distinguish from the Western version of Super Mario Bros. 2 (known as Super Mario USA in Japan). On a different note, you missed "warps" in the filename, so I'm just gonna include that on my end, cause it's honestly good to go other than the nitpick. Just make sure to not do it in the future.

The subtitle placement here isn't great. I'd start them at around 0:11 (after the transition ends) and put them at the bottom, with the second subtitle being 4 lines instead of 2. The rest is good, though, just fix that and it's good to go.

The only thing that's missing in your logo is the encoder information, but I also don't feel it's enough to warrant a complete re-do. That means it's good to go. (note: this was discussed in DMs, and later encodes have said info, but I also don't feel it's an absolute hard requirement, just a recommendation)

Here's my graphics settings: I have two controllers set and the memory card set to a GCI folder. DSP HLE is used, and Dual Core is disabled.

Disabling fog has the side effect of removing fog where it should normally be visible (e.g. during the fight against Ineptune). On that note, the TAS consistently desyncs for me at the final boss at 1x native on an nVidia card. Not sure why.

I see, so I suppose this is a bug specific to the version of the game used, then.

Aight, I suppose that's fine. I have another question, though: Is this an emulation bug or a bug in the game?

I have a SNDDRVRS directory that's absent from the HDD image. Any reason why it's not present? Additionally, I have a MIDI.DRV and a DIGI.DRV that's also absent from the image.

A fair amount of publications, both current and obsolete, are lacking a YouTube encode. In order to preserve our history on YouTube, I am calling for new encoders! If you have some CPU power to spare (and you're going to need it), feel free to choose any publication from the above list, upload your YouTube encode to your own YouTube channel as well as to a file sharing service (e.g. MEGA). Should you require any assistance, you can ask me (either via forum PM or Discord DM). For starters, here are the encoder guidelines. And here's a comprehensive publication manual. It also contains links to the current encoding package as well as the required stuff. Don't forget to make your own encoder logo. Note: If you wish to do downloadable encodes as well, there are published movies that can be re-encoded so that they meet our current standards. If your contributions prove to be valuable for the site, you may be promoted to the Encoder rank.

In addition to what feos wrote, I have a few concerns myself:
  • The subtitle placement isn't exactly the best. I'd probably make them 2 parts and put them on the lower left side (and as feos said, make them more readable).
  • The CRF setting (17) is pretty high for something that's intended for YouTube. We usually encode at QP 5 for YouTube.
  • The encode itself isn't cut properly. I'd cut it before the song starts.
  • Speaking of the audio...which SPU plugin did you use, and more importantly, did you use the resync workflow?
  • Finally, at which resolution did you dump the TAS at? A green line at the left can be noticed here. (you may need to download the image to be able to see it)
That's all for now. I will say though that I appreciate you tackling on a TAS done on PCSX, even if it's not up to par yet.

After giving it some thought, I don't think skipping to just before the second loop starts should be allowed for Standard, especially if stuff carries over between both loops. In that case, a movie that completes both loops is much more preferred IMO. As for codes that allow directly going to the second loop, I don't mind it being allowed for Standard.

Nothing carries over to the second quest, so it's completely separate. Second quests starts pretty much like first quest, just with a harder difficulty.

First off, I agree that having both loops should obsolete movies that only do one loop, especially if there's a true ending at the end of the second loop. However, we actually have a case where both first and second quest have been published separately, namely Zelda 1. The current published movie for the first quest is sitting in Stars, but disregarding that fact, it could very well sit in Standard, whereas the second quest movie is currently in Moons. The latter uses a specific filename (ZELDA) to directly access the second quest. Ending-wise, both play out identically, with the only difference being the last screen you see. First quest: Second quest: Now, the question is: Would second quest obsolete first quest, especially considering both show a proper ending, or can both happily co-exist?
