Saethori I'm not sure those are the conclusions every person out of the loop will make out of this. But one pokemon yellow tas is not the only thing I have done with tasvideos. Not submitting improvements to it twice was the only such distance I made (there's another improvement I made that was beaten by p4wn3r a long time ago and I didn't make an outcry because it was fair game). I am more of a speedrunner than a taser though, but being a programmer in order to speedrun I like to check out the game code if possible, and tas capable emulators often come with debuggers so that saves me work, if I can't find what I need I have no problem coding it on my own and then releasing. Like I think I said I haven't done a lot but I have also coded some and released it here, if people use or don't use what I did is a different matter. I hope the movie generator wasn't removed from tasedit since it was pretty functional as far as i know (something else was removed I recall). Worked for me at least. I think people prefer to bot with lua though. I usually post my findings and strategies in tl;dr posts for tasers and speedrunners to use if they wish, again don't know and don't care about my success in that regard, my success may be zero for all I know. To whoever pointed it out. It may be cool that you offer me to have my record protected if I submit from now on. But you are offering me protection from yourselves. I feel bullied. I do not appreciate that. adelikat yes I would certainly accept one frame faster (or better) to beat the record as that is generally the rule, I would feel really stupid if such frame was a glaring menu mistake of mine but would accept it without problems just taking note to not be so careless next time, I've always had such mistakes, specially in math exams. And as I may have pointed out in the past (or not, no idea) enjoy to be beaten with something interesting, such thing has happened at least thrice that I recall. Asking to myself I do believe I have the record as of now because I got that frame count first and released it to the public, so I assume the answer is it would be the record that I own. That word implies legal ownership of some sort I believe. Legally, I've always assumed I did not own anything, this is an emulated game after all th eonly ones to own something are the game creators, and my lack of legal ownership has sort of been validated by everyone else's answers. While they may/not be lawyers, my knowledge on that area is zero so they have a good chance to know better than me. The word could be wrong, but I am not in a good position to argue word meanings, I am a mere C on english, and that is kind of outside the scope, but maybe I am reading too much between lines. Now, asking me to dissect my rationale, is it really necessary? Why should we rationalize this, you want my movie file I can mail it to you, want a 60fps video? sure, I should have the folder with the "project" it had the avisynth script, the butterfree animation files and my notepad notes. I would have given them to anyone had they requested them personally as a favor, just like I have mailed lots of things before. For some reason I recall shooting down someone's request but I think he was requesting a public release of the vbm. I don't see it as an input file, a record, a strategy or trick I see it as a run, perhaps that's because I am more used to SDA, you don't submit your button presses on a speedrun, you don't even have to submit the raw file, all you have to do is to show a video and your comments, which is what I did here. I still believe that is enough for this, if I had tased let's say metroid without glitches I suppose I would have released the input file, if only because the game must be more complex and definitely longer, here it was just some keypresses visible in real time or a couple replays, and the ones that you couldn't see were much better explained in text since they were luck manipulation mostly. I had decided not to submit to tasvideos but at the same time knew members of it would want to have it. Then there's two big problems with posting the vbm: 1. I publish on youtube and provide a movie file. Then someone else submits for me to tasvideos and the movie gets published. I have already pointed I did not want it submitted for me. Much worse if the movie was submitted for themselves with the claim that they had came up with it on their own and never saw my video, in this regard I wasn't expecting p4wn3r (just to leave that clear) but some random person. On the first case I wasn't sure of the outcome because I have lurked other incidents in the past, so rather not make it easier for you. In the second case I was expecting to win in the end but didn't want to fight in the first place. 2. What I did: To prevent 1 I do not publish the vbm. Now the main argument of most is that my record doesn't exist because I didn't provide a vbm, which is technically correct per your site rules, I laugh at that, because even if I attached the vbm to my post right now the next claim would be that I possibly forged it, which again is technically correct, and those would surely be followed with more buts. By not giving the vbm I expected p4wn3r to have some fun reverse engineering the run as well, that also provided me the best peer review possible, if while reverse engineering something clicked on his mind and beat my run with something clever it would have been great. He messaged me shortly after asking me if my run was 4178 to which I assumed he had been successful at it, then waited for the improvement, although thinking about it he could have just calculated from the timing I provided. In the other cases, longer/equal movie, I wouldn't have made an outcry, just pointed out my run was faster on the thread so that the judge didn't publish it because there was a better record out there, which now I think of it may be possibly wrong because your rules aren't like that yari yara, I assume too much as you may notice. Last time I didn't do so because I was beaten, I didn't post at all I believe because then I would have had needed to include a link to my video which used the same strategy (with mistakes so ended slower) and I didn't want to take away from his record. In the case someone with an equal time claimed they came up with it on their own without seeing my video, and assuming I believed them, which would have been hard, I would have offered coauthorship and submitted to tasvideos if he so wished. But now it was already accepted and the run had not added anything at all and while there was a chance the judge had not noticed it was likely he did so I got very angry. I still had to post so there went my first post on which I noted my state and apologized had it been my mistake and went to sleep so I could calm down and it was the very late anyway. And now I realize this is a wall of text... I hope you know how I think so please just give me my answer. EDIT: actually before you point out, on the case of equal by copying before the judge decision my text is wrong that would only fit longer, I would point out its copied and request the judge cancel the submission. Copying and reverse engineering basically everything besides inputs that do not affect the run are the same to me.

What? You were the one supposed to frame war it, I congratulate you on pulling it off like this though, never expected you try and even less to succeed, me not posting the vbm not was as a safeguard from you but from some random troll, but well it seems it also safeguarded me from you, if only for some months at least. If I were to publish an improvement to this you would have won, and that won't happen. After adelikat's response which given the course of this thread is to be another negative I am quitting this hobby altogether.

p4wn3r, well, that adds to the disappointment, thanks for letting me know what you think though. You are meant to honor the will of others people when it doesn't truly affect you, and my will didn't.

What if someone found out how to do beat the game the same exact way as you did it, without watching your run? Would that person be stealing the run as well? Of course not. The only difference now is that you were nice enough to provide the strategy for anyone to use in a run, which p4wn3r did.
Moot because that did not happen. No he wouldn't be stealing, I would have expected tasvideos to still honor me because I got it first. Of course that view has changed.

Darkobold, thanks for your input. I'd still like to have the full admins response please. Toothache, I know, I'm sorry I won't satisfy your curiosity. EDIT: oops reading Nach, but you make the rules, and you are using them to... cant think of the word, "to make you be right". As a person, not as a site with self rules, you are polite and nice to others, and you are certainly not being nice here. Someone who contributes on your site from time to time made a run, you didn't have it, and you decide it is ok to publish it on yours, under your rules, by accepting from someone else? Is that being a correct person? Seriously? Do you expect my run will be buried in time and the one you publish will remain as the only true run in the future? The claim that I could have forged my run is ridiculous, how did I forged it so well it outputs the same as p4wn3rs run submitted much later? If I was the owner of this site I would actually be fair to my community, and that is not the comunity of tasvideos, but the comunity of tasers of the world. The same goes to SDA of course. If I actively (actively looking for), or passively (someone points me out) found a run that beat the one I have I would modify my history files to make sure credit is given where credit is due. If I see a japanese player putting a tas on nicovideo I would make a history page which included the comments and a link to the video, maybe a copy of the video which would be only published to the public if the original was taken down for whatever reason (if that was legal, otherwise links would have to do). That is being correct. I do my part of keeping history recorded and do not steal people's work just because I can. I don't know of something similar on SDA, and neither something here so can't compare. I know SDA allows you to remove your record from the site though and claims no ownership over such run they only host it. I am going to assume you don't because if you did and I removed my current record you'd just publish the same under another runner's name. You need the tasers to produce your content to grow, it is not the other way, you can't take away their rights because your organization is bigger. You have to play nice if not because your org. because of your conscience, you'll be losing them otherwise. Now I only await adelikats response to seal this issue.

None of you have cared to look for my run and read the comments, or you would realize p4wn3r did not make this on his own, he didn't even have to reverse engineer the video as I wrote on my comments everything he needed to understand and replicate the run. Brandon, what would have been rude of me is posting a link to my tas-on-youtube on your forums and then say ha ha I'm not submitting to you. I believe I chose the correct way since the contender for the record, p4wn3r, watched my channel at the time and I put detailed comments on what I did and how it worked. Again you show no respect for me and the work I have put on your community throughout these years even if small. Your organization is big in fame. So you can bully the small fish all you like, and play with your words all you like to make it look like you are correct. Like I said I do not care about what the law grants me, as I'm not looking to sue, I am not even a USA citizen, I am not well versed in law and wouldn't spend thousands of dollars on it even if the law granted me any right whatsoever, the law is to be abused by crooks in power anyway. But I know all of you know you are stealing from my work and decide to go along with it. This thread belongs in the submission, it is direct questioning on the legitimacy of it and its publishing, you seem to have cut it out to minimize damage to non forum users that access the thread form the front page, nice.

As I said that's a limitation on your site, nothing prevents you from linking to external records. You choose not to. TASVideos is about tasing but tasing is not TASVideos, I can make a tas run and publish it on youtube if I decide to, that's my decision, and I did, I did not put up a strategy video, I released it as a tas. I will not give you my reasons for not submitting my run to this site, as you shouldn't require it to be fair to me, sure I did not submit my run here but you never know what happens in the future, this or another runs could. The first tas ever was not submitted to your site either, if I recall correctly the history of tasing. Not submitting to your site does not make my tas illegitimate, it's like saying a record isn't legitimate because Guiness didn't approve it, or a speedrun record because SDA doesn't have it. All of you are smart enough to know this, as such you reveal to me your intentions. All I await is Nach's and adelikat's replies, I do not need to dilute the topic at hand arguing with you. Nach, adelikat, please read my posts carefully and check the youtube video and its comments in full, please don't give a rushed response that doesn't take into consideration everything I presented.

I don't need p4wn3r banned, that was just a stupid idea of his, I hope. Right now Brandon deserves it more. Sadly I just read Nach was the one who accepted it, so I assume he won't ban or demote himself, which is what I would require of tasvideos to save face assuming the judge went willingly with this. Did you know about this Nach and accepted regardless? If you have you have shown complete lack of respect towards me and my work, and I do not believe the way you think is the way someone with judge privileges should think. I don't require a flame war. I would like the official position of the organization, I assume that has to come from the admins. Nach being one I can only hope for the worst. Would liek to make sure if I am quitting tasing (as I am not sure if you had knowledge of this move, your reply will show, and certainly I can't just quit the community as you will copy my work) or this was just a misunderstanding. Brandon, Nach, you seem to want tasvideos to grow bigger, that's cool, and squish anyone that opposes your view at that?, that's totally not cool. I am not talking laws or crap, as I won't spend money over this anyway. I am talking about the integrity you as a judge should have, and the kind of image I assume tasvideos wants to show to their own community, you are screaming "we will ask for it first but if you don't oblige we will take it anyway". If that's true I will lobby for anyone self respecting to quit your community as it doesn't deserve to grow. While in the past I have not seemed concerned about authorship of a run (The short discussion over who WAS NOT going to be the author of King's Bounty's with Aqfaq comes to mind), that's because I in fact did nothing, and Aqfaq felt he did nothing as well, so "we didn't deserve authorship". That doesn't mean that from now on I give the freedom to submit things I did without my permission. It doesn't matter if I care or not care about anything anyway, you should care about your what's fair and what is not. Here I did everything, so it is practically insulting what you are doing. If you want the run so bad best it before, one frame is all you need, damn it. Any taser that manages to go through my comments can make this input. I can accept they can be boring, or even confusing, they were comments meant for p4wn3r for example who could recreate my movie in a very short time, and commented to me on youtube about it and told me the final length of it in frames to which I agreed and wondered if he was going to get at least one frame better soon, I didn't release a vbm in fact because I didn't want it submitted here by someone else, which happened anyway. If I gave you the vbm through chat, not as a submission, you would anyway claim that I forged it I'll have to bet. lol EDIT: Brandon, p4wn3r never offered me coauthorship I would have declined his suggestion that he could coauthor my run, I only knew about this because there was a post on SDA about this "new record". Back before I put this run on youtube I was the one who offered p4wn3r coauthorship, he declined, then I posted on youtube. p4wn3r doesn't have the right to offer me coauthorship for my run, what a joke you are. You seem interested on having the records on tavideos. You are a site coder it seems, code something to link to external sites, in this case my youtube video, for records that aren't submissions to your site. Trivial work, problem solved. No need to do this.

Have you improved my run? The fact I didn't submit is one hundred percent because I DID NOT WANT IT SUBMITTED here. You had it easy to replicate my run it was no accomplishment, I gave everyone the recipe to do it on my comments and what input I used was clearly visible to whoever watched the video. If you have indeed improved my run completely disregard this post please, I am extremely sorry, I just saw the time listed by the agent and it matches mine and I'm now raging. Now regardless of what whatever player, user, mod, judge or admin says in the end and whatever you guys end up doing with this submission I want to emphasize my first paragraph. This is really outrageous to me. I do not want you to be granted the authorship of my improvement, I do not want to be marked as coauthor, sole author, or whatever and I do not want tasvideos to publish it. The same goes to whoever decides to post this submission or my video posted on youtube on their own channel. Have some morals or whatever the word is.

From this thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11253 it seems the program doesn't do version checking, as such when the movie formats upgrade the header can be read wrong and things can go to hell.

Ok I did a quick test with the latest version and it doesn't screw up the file size. So I assume you just had an older version and continued using it because TME didn't show any error. Support for these movies was only added on the last update. Get the latest version and just in case keep a backup of your files and report any problems right away :)

emulators runs on at 60fps, but a real game has more "frames" than that, when people do the bad clone on the real game they are possibly hitting a sub frame spot. So in order to get it on emulator, you'd have to try at different instances to try to get the frame to match the sub frame. Would be easier with an RR emulator that allowed to pause at any instruction you can reset at :D

ah so thats stuff like apache deflate in action? awesome Anyway, fixed the movie (or so it seems), luckily the google repository had documentation for version 4 (i see there's no documentation, at least there, for version 5) http://www.mediafire.com/?d1t3l5wi15nf3y5 Now, don't use TME for snes9x movies until the issue is fixed, it screws up the header's savestate + controller offsets for whatever reason (for snes9x, I haven't had trouble with vba movies for instance). At the very least test your file won't increase in size after saving before trying to use it. I don't promise I'll fix it so if I dont and this is putting your work on hold, get an hex editor. The first 4 rows of sixteen values are the header, copy from the start of the file until address 82 (131 bytes = 131 boxes with values) to a new file or something. Then, looking at the "string" output, find the last instance of "X-MEN", on the hex it will say something like CB 8C 87 AE 58 2D 4D 45 4E. Copy from the start of this (CB 8C ...) until the end of the movie. and paste it on your new file then save. The CB should be at address 83 since address 82 was from the first copy. Then, starting at address 18 (25th value), replace the values with this 9E 00 00 00 00 03 00 00. Then save, your movie is fixed. Don't let it grow that huge next time, should have reported the error asap (if you didn't).

The file has some data at the beginning, possibly header that's why I ask for the empty movie, then its 160MB of zeroes and then at the end of the file the game's name (header again?) and the frames themselves. I assume TME has an error saving the header of snes movies, or maybe this specific snes movie. The version of TME I have can't open the movie, I'll see what is the current. This I am doing blind but maybe one of the movies work: http://www.mediafire.com/?ixy8a7ulowup6cw

Can you please post a movie of the same game with the same "header" (author and stuff, if any, vba has this kind of stuff) and just 10 or so frames of data, and another with no frames recorded (empty movie). Thanks.

can you post a test case? simple: a starting file and the minimum number of steps to have your bug show up. ie. open this file, just save it back, boom, size exploded. If it is an user error then you could be adding blank frames at the end of the movie. If it is a wrong format "error" it could be your starting format is more compressed than the format you/the program saves as (unlikely but could be).

I dont remember much, so not sure if this would be better, but rival's bulbasaur at route 22 has the stats for a gengar, which is the pokemon I would use on a yellow tas without save corruption. I do recall it had faster cry, and fast attacks with short names (Lick I assume).

I assumed something like this was possible but since I didn't have a ram map of the game I didn't bother, do you have one, or was all your work just by chance? If you can help building a ram map I can help with whatever I can :P

Zombies Ate My Neighbors 100% (rescue all neighbors), first level you must get a bazooka or monster potion effect from the few random drops on the level. An speedrunner will usually stay two hours on average waiting for this drop to occur. While this is trivial for a TAS. Once the run is started the speedrun becomes easier than the TAS though but this is because the runner will disregard anything but game completion and final time once he went through hell for that first drop :), a TAS would keep manipulating drops to get an extreme advantage on final time.

If the goal is speed ohko moves are the main choice, on round 2 it becomes basically impossible to beat trainers with a single pokemon. ohko moves in the worst case only lose 1 turn to set up agility, which is the same time wasted to do one switch. So its either beating the trainer with two pokemon and a single switch or going for ohkos. A TAS would have greater chances as an entertainment-only movie. Doing different things vs each enemy instead of trying to defeat them all on the first turn (one of them would be the ohko match, another abusing critical hits with pokemon that should lose to the AI if it wasn't for them, another abusing accuracy modifiers, the power of Counter, Bubble/Water Gun/Surf/Hydro Pump Blastoise, showing Metronome funny effects like Fly, size differences between Onyx and Digglet... or Moltres vs the Bug Trainer and using critical Fire Blast on his Caterpie, etc). What I was talking about back then was for an unassisted speedrun, since beating them in one turn is more impressive when you know it wasn't a TAS' luck manipulation. (If anyone can make a device that retrieves the flash save data from the original cart, backup to PC and then restore it back to it let me know, a save manager is what has stopped me from continuing my run :) ) I do believe an speed focused TAS would get a lot of views, but viewers would get bored quickly and jump to the end. And the TAS wouldn't pass peer review anyway.
