RuneScape Classic - In my opinion, much better than the current version.
Bounce Down - I'm linking to a post that has the link to the iphone app version since the java web-based applet doesn't work atm.
Stick Ranger - A stickman based action RPG that utilizes the mouse for movement. Attacks are automated.
sorry for the bump, I thought recreating this would be redundant.
My thoughts:
1. Allowed, since it's a hardware limitation, not an actual impossible thing to do ingame.
2. I have no clue what you're talking about. Can you link a run that's published and does this?
3. Are you talking about packet spoofing? Won't that usually just get you kicked out of the game? Or banned form there?
4. Other than for the N64, I'm not sure how to even do that. Also, I got no idea how emulators emulate this behavior, so I have no real thoughts about it.
5. Sure why not? I mean, it's just abusing the disk swapping feature to skip cutscenes and probably other stuff. To me, it's like using hard resets.
6. Idk, does that even have a benefit for TAS's (Superplays included)?
7. Sure. After all, isn't that how the Chrono Trigger New Game + run reach the credits despite it defeating the final boss in a battle way before the script says it's supposed to. Also, see the GBA Lttp TAS.
8. Case by case, since not all games have the final input at the ending. For example, in the Spongebob movie TAS, I skipped the credits because if I didn't, the game would be stuck at the password screen, which would never go away.
9. Accept. It's not like it's a TAS-only trick; the famous Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal dupe was done like this.
10. Sure, just get a verification movie since it's possible for runs to mysteriously desync despite using a save file with seemingly the same amount of progress. Also as evidence that the progress was legit for cases where the save file contains glitched up items/stats/etc.
Why are we using this thread to discuss some trick that isn't even in this run? This run doesn't use those extra buttons; it uses the multitap instead.
Finally managed to watch this. This makes it looks as if the TAS was trying to be a superplay before it suddenly realized that it's supposed to be a speedrun, and threw the credits at us. 0_o
Does this give FCEUX an unfair advantage in speed over the NES, or could it be the other way around?
It doesn't matter in a TAS perspective since even if it were true (see this) a movie made with tools shouldn't be used to obsolete a real time run, so it's fine.
That's a nice list, will give me some stuff to check for sure.
Note:
Keitai Denjū Telefang: Power
Keitai Denjū Telefang: Speed
Both are in Japanese, so goodluck.
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone
I know of this because while I was TASing this, the store at Hogwarts has these tables that are actually for trading cards with other players. It's quite late into the game, so to save time, use RAM watch and change the value of "FFD2" to 68 and keep going down until you find the option called "Card Trading Club". Btw, in case you're wondering, that's the only place to trade cards. There isn't even an option at the menu or title screens.
natt, I can't help you with it since I know next to nothing about GBx hardware, but here's an incomplete list of games you may want to try as well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_multiplayer_Game_Boy_games
Here's some single player games that can use the link cable that I know of:
Pokemon Silver
Pokemon Gold
Pokemon Crystal
Keitai Denjū Telefang: Power
Keitai Denjū Telefang: Speed
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
A spin-off where the ponies take on human form? Please no! Who thought that would be a good idea?
A companion series, Equestria Girls, is set to premiere in the second quarter of 2013, where the main characters from the show will be re-envisioned as humanized characters attending school.
Any way of getting this run to work on good old Snes 9x?
Yep, masterjun already made a test run of the glitch on Snes9x.
In addition, he also made this as a joke for SMWC's 24-hour Automatic Mario contest. It will automatically perform the glitch for you in any emulator; ZSNES included. Though it's technically not legitimate since you can't actually input the code required to jump to the credits (it just jumps when a certain input combination is met).
I need a clarification about some classes regarding to their vaultability. Hardest difficulty seems to be pretty vaultable, even though it is in most cases a time trade off. Will a run on easier difficulty obsolete the slower one done on hard? Or the opposite? It's all just for Vault yet.
I have no idea, but I thought tool-assistance was used to "push games to their limits". I'm not exactly sure how would using the easiest difficulty would make a TAS look like it's "pushing the games to their limits" other than utilizing frame-specific tricks. :P
Edit: Out of pure luck, I clicked on a random page for this thread and the first post was this:

Also, does the "hardest difficulty" rule still apply?
oh ok I thought you had not taken into account that little skip right now I see that your tas is faster than mine so I think it is worth following judging this TAS because from simple point of view it is obviously slower than your tas jlun.
Just curious, can you try playing back this submission again on a different computer to see will it sync? It seems noone else has managed to do so.
