Let me guess. Hard mode is either an unlockable or you have to waste time going to Gary the snail. In that case, since I'm starting without a save, it doesn't matter.
The game is 3d, so finding ram addresses for positions would be annoying. Also, I can't seem to start in "hard" mode. The game doesn't have that option when I started it.
We used over 36k re-records on just SSL100 alone. Pretty funny considering Rikku used 63k re-records on his complete 120 stars TAS. To say the least, it's pretty optimized! ;D
....Wow?
Infact, how does anyone use so few rerecords in a 100% TAS of a 3d game anyway?
Well, it's certainly nice to know you guys are half way there! I wonder how long the list of co-authors is going to be?
In the first stage alone, I found a glitch that makes Spongebob unplayable (you cannot switch back to him lol). I'll see what else I can find.
Edit: Also, it seems attacking with spongebob after a double jump boost your speed greatly...until you land, in which you get stuck to the ground for a while. This is useful only if the time it takes to get yourself unstuck is less than the time it takes to walk all the way to the place you got stuck.
They appear in the volcano on mu continent after getting the music. I guess theres ways that the other characters might be faster, but squid is faster for me on the ACTUAL volcano, and can easily take the jellies out in a matter of seconds, thus a faster run
Also, the Other characters dont take that long, but the fastest and most efficient way to do most things where i could use squidward but instead use someone else is pats hip slam, which takes time to charge, and makes him walk slow.
There i used the edit feature. Happy?
They only appear in 1 stage? I'm going to try TASing this to see what I can do. I hope the minigames are better than the GBA version, which I played.
Wait.
Only the jellies cause the other characters trouble? Since you STILL haven't told us how long compared to squidward (seriously, "SO LONG" isn't a time), can you please tell me what stage they appear on? I'm going to test TAS it and compare.
Yes i have beaten itSUPER quicker with squidward than with the others ... Especially considering how hard the fire jellies are without the octo copter --' (by hard, i mean they take SO LONG!)
It may be hard in real time, but is it really that long to get rid of them with savestates and frame advance?
Edit: In fact, I'll check out this game myself to see how "awful" the other characters are.
The characters throw their partners either far or high. Squidward throw combines high and far, so that, along with the jump boost he gets from defeating enemies with the jump kick (also useful for beating bosses quicker) ive found ways to use to my advantage for speed.
So...is Squidward way faster? Say, if the game can be beaten in 30 minutes normally, would using squidward result in a lot shorter game time AND look different from playing other characters?
If using squidward saves only like a minute in a half hour TAS, then I don't think there should be a "Squidward" catagory for the TAS.
For example, i found that you can dance on some of the bosses with squiddys jump kick. Theres a glitch in atlantis where if you use arm extension on the cannons core at a certain place itll automatically warp to the cannon. By dancing on the cannons during the final boss, you can leap over the invisible wall and start immediatley attacking plankton. And (probably one of my best) a glitch where you can take other characters into places normally that only spongebob and pat could access. Thats only afew. I can post more if thatll MAKE YOU HAPPY! |:| ive done my homework on the subject AND the game.
Uh...can you please use the edit button. And why would I be happy whether or not you found a glitch for this game? I'm not the one TASing it. :P
i needed permission so THATS why I asked. and squidward is unlockable, so I thought I could ask. You say I need to have a verification movie for that? Well, ok, I can do that.
Also, you don't need a judge's permission to TAS stuff. I mean, seriously, do you think people would enjoy judging TAS's if they get spammed by like a billion PM's of people asking them "is this game ok to TAS"?
And Squid is fastest, at least for me. Also by draining my melody shells first, I don't need to lose Squidward by deleting my save. i get plenty of melody shells on the way, so it wouldn't really make a difference. Just so I techinically have a fresh start.
What? At least for you? So if I were to TAS this game, Squidward would magically slow down just because I'm not you? Huh?
Also, how's that a fresh start? You said that squidward is an unlockable character, and I'm sure unless you cheated, you can't start a "FRESH START" with unlockables.
AND I'll show a Test Run. Also, with the verification movie not collecting treasures, its closer to the 'fresh start'. BTW I read the rules before posting this topic, THATS why I asked for permission first. Anything else I need to know?
Yea, how about reading the part of the rules where it states to start from a clear SRAM. I'll even post it for you to read:
"Record from SRAM" and "Record from now/savestate" or similar is not allowed, except under special circumstances (see the next paragraph).
Also:
by better i meant 'FASTER AND ABLE TO USE MORE TRICKS FROM THE GAME RESOURCES' btw
How about you start a new page in the game resources, and input the tricks you already know? I mean, you have the game, so you must've at least played it before and tried to speedrun somehow to find a general route, right?
and before you ask, no the verification movie will NOT be my test run.
Hey, I want to make an Atlantis Squarepantis TAS because I have it on my real DS and I've found MANY super cool time saving tips.
Uh....ok?
Also, can I use Squidward?
Why do you have to ask this? If it's the fastest character, sure, go ahead.
I'll need him to make a better runthrough than with the other characters alone.
You just answered the above question yourself. >.>
I'm not gonna collect any of the treasures you actually have to search for (the ones you don't automatically collect) until I start recording, so I can actually collect them as part of the run.
What's the benefits of using a save? If there's no real reason to, other than to "look" better, don't. It's against the guidelines.
I'll even drain my melody shells if I have to before I start.
You might as well delete your save before you start, tbh.
Please let me know if that's ok (I want a judge to verify it).
A judge's decision in this case won't really affect the chances of the run getting published because, well, you haven't even shown a test run or something. The goals may be entertaining, but if the finished run gets alot of "no" votes, I'm not sure how the run being verified as ok would stop it from being rejected.
There are several reasons why our run won't sync on the newer emulators. The biggest problem is probably that there's virtually no lag on Snes9x 1.43 when lots of sprites are active. I don't think it's really an issue to the point where we'd have to change our routes to accommodate the lag, but when it comes to unnecessary egg antics, future runs will likely have to be less flamboyant in some places. A good example is our 1-4 boss fight, where we spam a load of egg shots. If you do just a few egg shots at once on console, especially if some stars are spawned from red eggs, the game will slow down considerably. Of course, 1.43 was our best option at the time, and we're too far now to think about restarting.
So...let's use inaccurate emulators because it lags less? :o
Still can't get it to playback. TASEditor doesn't like me. I tell it to import. Fine. Playback, nope.
The problem with this run of Battletoads can be solved by adding 1 blank frame to the end of the movie, then it will sync with old versions of FCEUX, where the bug wasn't fixed.
