Returning to highway is emulation glitch, and instadeath projectiles are most likely the same

Actually there is hard mode in this game. It's unlocked after beating normal, and Dark mode is unlocked after beating hard. Dark mode in short: normal difficulty, dark spyro(regenerates health and magic very fast), so I think you should stick to hard not dark
