I may have made more sense, but that's not how scientific studies work (and I believe this was supposed to be a publishable journal article, not just a "look what we did" experiment). Imagine if they did the same thing with new cancer drugs...

This is now the only project I have to work on now! And I'm not starting another until this damn thing is done and submitted. Depending on interest, I may post further WIPs, or I may just PM them to those who want them to keep the last 2/3 of the run new for others.

Yes to your first question, no to your second. A qualifier to the first: not only do you have to beat all the worlds, but your run needs to be faster than the currently published run. Otherwise it will quickly meet the gruefood section.

Try here first for starters on who we are, what we do, and how we do it. Simple answer: we use tools such as savestates, frame advance, and RAM watching to produce runs that are near impossible to replicate in real time playing. Also, don't be surprised if your avatar gets deleted, there's a limit of 80x80 pixels here to prevent the forums from looking awful.

I just finished up my run, and managed to achieve a time of 7 minutes, 59 seconds, and 57 frames. I want to check and make sure I can't squeeze any more time out of the last 300 frames or so, but be expecting a submission in the next 24 to 48 hours.

No... This is in real time..
Hence the winky face at the end, meant to denote that the phrase was not meant to be taken seriously.

Favorite sandwich that doubles as a heart attack: Jim's Philly Cheese steak (from Jim's on South Street in Philly). Whiz with onions and spicy mustard Favorite make it yourself sandwich: 3 slices sourdough bread (to make it a double decker), spicy brown mustard, mayo, ham, smoked turkey, cheddar cheese, olives, and a splash of vinegar. Press together slightly, and lightly grill to make the mayo and mustard flavors explode on your tongue. Enjoy. Add a couple pieces of bacon if that isn't quite enough, I've never tried it like that though.

Worked fine for me using "Ninja Gaiden (E) [!].sms", according to GoodSMS 3.13.

mostly i was wondering... - should i go into the in-game 'options' and change the settings to autorun? it costs some time but saves me the trouble from holding the X-button all game through. Equivalent question: is time spent in menu counted to the final time?
No, don't go to the options. SNES9x has an auto-hold function that allows you to avoid finger cramps. Use that instead. Also, other than in rare cases, a movie is timed from the start of the movie to the end frame of input. So menus definitely count. Also, use Microstorage to upload WIPs, it's a dedicated script that allows you to upload without fear of expiring links. After looking at your WIP, it seems decently made, however the game itself isn't very interesting to me. It seems to be a very straightforward platformer. I'd have to see a bit more, hopefully with more varied levels, before I'd be able to tell you that it looks like a publication candidate. Keep going though, it seems to be a simple enough game to cut your TASing teeth on.

I'll still pull that up once in a while when I need a good long laugh.

Same video, but poker related and probably won't make any sense to anyone here. It's the hardest I've laughed at a youtube video/similar thing ever though. Insanely funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6qc_QRy6B4
On the contrary, fellow 2+2er, that was funny enough for me to want to go wake up Emil, and MS paint Hitler wearing a Full Tilt jersey. I am in your debt for my weekly laugh :)

Overall, I liked it. The platforming was great as usual, but the bosses, except for the great level 5, did get a bit repetitive (not your fault, I know). The game didn't blow me away but I was sufficiently entertained for a yes vote. Oh, and those skeletons in level 5 need to lay off the beer and doughnuts, and get on a treadmill instead of wandering aimlessly. Whata gut.

Unlike the other sonic games, the time bonus and ring bonus screens can be skipped with a simple press of A,B, or C right before they start to tally. Once skipped, the total score shows for a set amount of time. So the extra rings only act to add to the score, and does not waste any time at all. In a major turn of events, I'm done with Lava Powerhouse and the 2nd bonus level, and am now 930 frames (15.5 seconds) ahead. Major improvements include a 3 second improvement to the second boss, and a 5 second improvement to the second bonus, thanks in large part to Flip not skipping the "You Lose" message after the 3rd ball has disappeared. I'm now pretty confident that I'll be able to break the 8 minute mark! Edit numero dos: Done with level 3 and the associated bonus, and I'm 1260 frames (21 seconds) improved. 4 seconds of savings within that 8 minute barrier....

I'll try to be a little more tactful and say that Sonic the Tree-Sloth would be about as exciting as it sounds.

You're also not allowed to request ROMs here. It is explicitly stated in the rules, and your post will probably be edited by a mod (if you don't edit it yourself first), to avoid legality issues. http://tasvideos.org/ForumRules.html#ToStayLegal By the way, what the hell is an internet advisor?

Well I'm up to the Lava Powerhouse boss, which I am not looking forward to, because Flip's version looks incredibly optimal, but I'll see what I can do with it over the next couple days. Here's the WIP. Currently 507 frames ahead.

In the published run I did the semi-circle, then blasted back to the cork. Flip stopped in the semi-circle and fell back, which is the faster method. If I use the flipper, I lose roughly 35 frames when compared to Flip's submission, so I'm going to try and keep at it. For some reason, the glitch is just much harder to try and optimize on the right side of the level compared to the left. EDIT: Success! Not only did I get it to look soooper sweet, I saved another second, so I'm up to 424 frames saved total.

Ah, I see what you're saying, I forgot that emerald 5 emptied right out into the animal prison. I also have tried to use the cages to boost into the boss room, but it's proved impossible for me too. I also found a couple interesting glitches that have (so far) been worthless. There's a spot in the upper left corner of The Machine that allows you to fall through the wall, but unfortunately it just drops you down to a lower platform (it's the wall to the left of the two buzzards guarding the entrance to the boss area). I have also been able to get myself stuck into the up and down tubes that lead directly to the boss, but I haven't been able to do anything with it. And I'm still stuck on the 3rd emerald of level 2... damn corks.

That's something close to what I had envisioned, but skipping the emerald in the animal prison was something I hadn't thought of. I'm assuming that emerald would be collected last, but there isn't a very easy way to get from that room to the boss room. What is your thinking for emeralds 4, 5 and the boss?

There's a similar idea proposed here, and as I said in that thread, something of the sort is a cool idea...

Well after 5 sunny days in Orlando, I'm back home, and back to TASing (while not playing some variation of Final Fantasy). I'm still stuck on trying to manipulate the best possible way to get stuck in the cork spiral on the right side, but I'm working on that and any possible route changes on level 3 and shortcuts on level 4. I don't have an estimated time of completion for this, but at most I have 6 minutes and 15 seconds left:)

True, but stranger things have happened. Since they were a Japan release, will they work on a USA PS2, or does the region restrictions fuck everything up?

In regards to the X and X-2 international versions, I read that they were only released in Japan, leading me to believe they would have mostly Japanese text/voices. Is there an English version of the game with all of the extras available?
