there is a GBA emu for the PSP, so I don't see why a DS would be needed. even the N64 games can be played, and recently Sony upgraded the latest firmware to let their portable console PS1 retro-compatible.
I think I've read somewhere that we can play GBA games on... computers too! it's a fantastic inovation.

When you watched the movie did you have the sound turned ON?

Heh heh…well, like I said, I did PSS (and spent an hour and an half getting 12.6 seconds), but I noticed, to my horror, that the Exit Course option in the Aquarium was at least one frame too long. AKA and FODA definitely did it faster, and I can’t get the right combination of button presses and frame advances. Anyone know how to get it right?
START+DOWN, *blank*, A
i'd do: - start - down - A

Yeah but the logic seemed to be "since it looked badly chosen then, it must've been badly chosen now too", when I think I managed to give the game much better viewing quality than that submission. But judging this movie appart from other submissions, I've already agreed that it doesn't hit a major audience. It's mostly people who like the game, which may not be the point of this site.

The decision to reject is alright, I don't agree with comparing it to 4 minutes slower submissions, but ok.

Dracula X rondo of blood is getting a new remake which includes: 3d version of the game original version of the game and just as a minor bonus, Simphony of the Night comes with it. The bad news is it's for PSP... http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3156904

What about hacking a TAS into one of the cpu's demonstrations? or making a real story instead of this garbled thing?

Let's say you were a developer of a game and you wanted to make it difficult to make a TAS of the game.
Create a myriad of options that are difficult to compare. Lots of routes, lots of items that affect everything, and randomness that is tied to at least last 5 minutes of action instead of last 5 seconds or last 5 frames. The randomness tends to annoy though, but a myriad of options may make a challenge that requires significant resources to beat.
This would only increase the innacuracy of the TAS, but yeah.

It could have both ways. I don't like much the "43 presses in 43 frames" because it makes such a loud noise. But it has its place.

okokok, here's the WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3537/rhythm%20tengoku%20-%20FODA%20-%20v3.vbm but make sure you buy the game, just watching it is not comparable to actually playing it! boco you're absolutely right. If i decide to submit i'll edit that part.

Ok, but the game only offers you the chance to get a perfect on songs you haven't got a perfect yet.

I just watched the WIP you posted earlier (ends at start of 5th remix) and I have to say that I'd prefer that you keep it as is, and that way we can hear all the tunes. If you started from SRAM with all the stuff unlocked, it would be a lot faster, but there wouldn't be much point in watching it -- it might show off all the minigame mechanics, but the point of these games is definitely the music, and there'd be a lot of that skipped.
Not really, it would play all the music, but in different order. And instead of getting a medal, it'd get a "perfect" for each music (because it would already have a medal for every song).

I don't see the point of finishing a game that has an in-game clock but ignoring it and going for least frames overall...

I think this is the same as the mario64 times competition, where there are star times faster than the TAS (because it used cannon where it wasn't available before, etc). You're playing on different conditions than the record, so it's ok. And I really wouldn't go for fastest frames time, I would do the fastest in-game clock timer you can get. This is more logical and I think it's somewhere on this site's guidelenes too.

I have a WIP on the last level before 7th remix, and it's 1:15 hour long. I just wondered though, that it would be better (still not sure if publish material), to start from sram, with all levels unlocked, and get a perfect on every level then, so the game is more complete.

I'm interested on at least these games, as taken directly from my page: Frostbite (atari 2600) - this would take a while to get fast, so I'd only watch it if it started from a savestate. H.E.R.O (atari 2600) - 20 levels then it loops. I've seen a speedrun of this, but it could be cool to see it optimized. Adventure (atari 2600) - Would be cool to see the fastest route Montezuma´s Revenge (atari 2600) - Also seems to have an end, this is like super pitfall (NES) River Raid (atari 2600) - It would be just awesome to see the plane fly at top speed ignoring the game's difficulty. Seaquest (atari 2600) - this would get insanely fast in just 1 or 2 minutes, and then could be done a score attack. Of course, there must be many other games to surprise me, or games I didn't remember to put on the list. About Bisqwit's question: It's true that there aren't that many games for atari 2600 that fit current standards for this site. Initially, I'd publish the "plays from savestate" on the concept demo section. There are many atari 2600 games that would have to do this because it would be watching 30 minutes of repetitive slow action until it got interesting, at which point the viewer would be too bored to appreciate it. Example: my frostbite score video on youtube. The games that do have an end ("aims for fastest time"), or "aim for highest score" (999,999 or whatever the game's high score is), could very well go in the current system, I don't see why not. Of course, it would have to get a highscore pretty fast, or else it should start from a savestate and go in the concept demos section. Drawing a line for this could be difficult though, but should be up to the player. But I do think of course that there are other emulators with more priority to receiving TAS tools than atari 2600: Something for playstation 1 Kega Fusion = why not? "Fusion is a Sega SG1000, SC3000, Master System, Game Gear, Genesis/Megadrive, SegaCD/MegaCD and 32X emulator for Win9x/ME/2000/XP" It depends on how much work would be spent implementing these tools. I think that for playstation (top priority) it would be harder. Atari 2600 could be easier. And a funny music video from Wintergreen about atari 2600's E.T failure (youtube)

also you can't assume that taking a powerup is slower. maybe it allows some screen zipping glitch.

Hey he did that on purpose, that is my idea. Just take a look at The Accidental Videogame Porn Archive. (double dragon 2 screenshot sent by me over an year ago) oh wait, truncated, that screenshot isn't from his movie :P i was wondering why would he do that, since it'd be slow as hell.

no NES character moves as slowly as this wizard... perhaps "battle city".
