Watched the encode, it was very nice. Though did you have to keep firing with the Spreader all the time? Is it needed for manipulation or spread gun optimization? Welp, here goes a yes vote, and thanks feos for the encode.

This game looks pretty short and seems to have som Potential for a TAS. I think I'm gonna check it out once I get the time.

This run neatly showed what you can do with TASing and felt pretty nice, fluent and fast. So, here's a yes vote.

Hey, with that topic name change, I actually was bothered to read it. And hey, I like your style of writing, so I might just check in for more, because it seems interesting enough. Also, Snake dies or something.

No worries there, for I will not need a single coin of gold in my run. I have decided to get the sabre, but it's mainly to cut down some enemies quicker. I've begun to run the game up to the point where I don't need to do any elaborate planning. Once there is something substantial to show (World 1 done), I will do an encode.

Looks good, I see how heavily inspired by this game La-Mulana was. Then I remember the difference between that team and Konami when suddenly BULLET-SPEWING MOAI HEADS. What other subweapons are there? just different flavors of arrow? Is the Holy Water in L1 out of your reach?
Thanks, bro. As for the subweapons, what Derakon said. The holy water is out of my reach, but the boss goes down too quickly to really make it worth it, for the same reason arrows aren't worth it. I'm currently in the process of planning how many keys and arrows to get and how to tackle the bosses, so a fair bit of planning goes into this.

Voted "No" because you didn't use the KC/PRG1 version.

Good news, everyone! I have recently completed a route test for Maze of Galious, following a route Morrison originally thought up. The final movie clocks in at 31:47, which lends itself to massive possible improvements using tool assistance. Link to video (Thanks to vampier for encoding and uploading!) Here's the route:
KEY TO WORLD 1 HALO (essential, since it lets you warp back to a certain screen in the castle, referred to as demeter) WORLD 1 - BOSS (YOMAR) ARROWS (essential as well) BOOTS (let you walk faster if you're under a low ceiling. I chose to get them because their effect adds up, wastes ~27 seconds) - Halo Warp to Demeter- WORLD 2 - DOLL (you need it for a bridge to appear), HOLY WATER (divides boss' health by 2), SCEPTER (no arrows lost at boss fights, neatly on the way here) - BOSS (ELOHIM) - Halo Warp to Castle - WORLD 3 - BOSS (HAHAKLA) - Exit to Castle - CROSS (Required to beat Galious) - Warp to Demeter - WORLD 4 - HOLY WATER (Boss pretty much impossible without it) - BOSS (BARECHET) - Warp to Demeter - WORLD 5 - SCEPTER (neatly on the way) - BOSS (HEOTYMEO) - Warp to Demeter - WORLD 6 - HOLY WATER (neatly on the way) - BOSS (LEPHA) - Warp to Demeter - CERAMIC ARROWS (needed for some bosses), DRAGON HEL; (protects against a minor enemy, neatly on the way), FEATHER (warps to worlds already opened) WORLD 7 - HOLY WATER (neatly on the way) - BOSS (NAWABRA) - Warp to Demeter - WORLD 8 - BOSS (ASCHER) - Warp to World 7 - WORLD 9 - CAPE (cuts boss damage, unneeded, but on the way) - BOSS (XYWOLEH) - Warp to Demeter - WORLD 10 - CAPE, HOLY WATER, SCEPTER (all on the way) - BOSS (HAMALECH) BABY.
Things I don't get: The SABRE doesn't take too long to get and enhances the strength of your sword. If it works against bosses, it's definitely worth it. Things that are not self-explanatory:
  • Often you need to kill enemies in a room to make something appear or disappear. This is most visible in world 4, where I have to go to some screen to kill bats
  • To make a boss appear, you have to type his name into the MSX keyboard
  • Some bosses are immune to some forms of damage
  • The entrance to world 10 spawns at one of a few predetermined random locations. I got very lucky in this testrun because I didn't manipulate it one bit.
  • Your control over midair momentum is limited, which can be a problem at times.
  • Everything from enemy drops to enemy behaviour is manipulatable Glitches: Hitting F1 allows you to cut damage drain. This is beneficial for bosses, and, in one case, even required. Before starting on the proper run, I'll have to investigate on wether the boots and the sabre are worth it and determine, how many drops I need to manipulate. So, I hope you enjoy watching this testrun, and I will update WIPs as I see fit.

Very nice work. I'm also very impressed by how you take the effort to investigae actual improvements if someone points them out, and I'm definitely looking forward for more.

You can't force an author to cancel a submission. If he or she rather wants to see it not to go down without a fight, that's their choice, I guess.

Watched the encode (thanks, Brandon!) and I must say, I quite enjoyed this run. It was overall of a very good technical quality, and you can't believe how glad I am this run doesn't go through the misty isle star world, since it contains one of the longest and most boring autoscrollers I've ever seen. On the whole, yes vote.

You can attempt directly editing the movie file (.vbm is binary I think, so you'll need a hex editor), but it is unlikely and very dependent on the game it will sync. Anyway, this should hopefully be helpful. If nothing works, I'm afraid you'll have to redo it.

Mario 64: The one proof that no matter how arbitrary, dumb or ridiculous a category is, someone has done it. The TAS at hand was actually pretty entertaining, because collecting a 1up doesn't have the same long, boring animation to it collecting a star does.

Hey, I'm RD3 and I've finally decided to register at TASVideos :) I'm a big fan of TAS' (I love watching a game run at perfection or simply watching it get pulverized) and I decided I wanted to find out more about how to actually make them rather than just watch them...so here I am :) And with that, I want to try and get my first contribution in for one of my favourite series of games - the Sonic series I think I may have found a 170 frame improvement (don't know exact figures, its around that value) on the current Sonic Advance 1 TAS. However, I don't know where to post it since the actual improvement is super duper simple and I'm not even sure its valid as an improvement so I didn't want to bump a very old topic just to post something that might have already been found out or wasn't actually counted as an improvment. Should I specifically contact the person who made the run or post it here or somewhere else? I also have a couple of questions regarding the VisualBoyAdvance Emulator as I want to try and do a TAS of Bomberman Tournament - All the movies I've made so far (test runs and stuff) are all VMV files. However, all the TAS movie files submitted are VBA and I can't playback any of the TAS' that people have made on the emulator. How do I make it so that I get VBA movie files instead? - Is there an option that lets you see at what frame something happens? - Is there an option that lets you see how many rerecords you've done? I'm afraid I'm a complete noob when it comes to all of this so I apologise if I've missed something I also apologise for the long post :) Thankyou in advance!
Hello, RD3 and welcome to TASvideos, enjoy your stay! By all means, if you've found an improvement, don't mind bumping an old thread. Since I'm not terribly familiar with the game however, I couldn't tell you if it's already known. As for your questions: - You likely got the non-rr version of VBA. Be sure to get your emulators from this page to make sure they are the correct ones. - VBA-rr does have a frame counter (and a lag counter and input display, for that matter, also very helpful) though I'm not sure about the hotkeys for them. You can reassign them anyway, so everything's good. - Just load the movie file using VBArr, the rerecord count should be displayed with the author and everything. Hope I could help, if you have any further questions, do not be afraid to ask
