Watched the encode, it was very nice. Though did you have to keep firing with the Spreader all the time? Is it needed for manipulation or spread gun optimization?
Welp, here goes a yes vote, and thanks feos for the encode.

Hey, with that topic name change, I actually was bothered to read it. And hey, I like your style of writing, so I might just check in for more, because it seems interesting enough.
Also, Snake dies or something.

No worries there, for I will not need a single coin of gold in my run. I have decided to get the sabre, but it's mainly to cut down some enemies quicker. I've begun to run the game up to the point where I don't need to do any elaborate planning. Once there is something substantial to show (World 1 done), I will do an encode.

Thanks, bro. As for the subweapons, what Derakon said. The holy water is out of my reach, but the boss goes down too quickly to really make it worth it, for the same reason arrows aren't worth it.
I'm currently in the process of planning how many keys and arrows to get and how to tackle the bosses, so a fair bit of planning goes into this.

Good news, everyone!
I have recently completed a route test for Maze of Galious, following a route Morrison originally thought up. The final movie clocks in at 31:47, which lends itself to massive possible improvements using tool assistance.

(Thanks to vampier for encoding and uploading!)
Here's the route:
Things I don't get:
The SABRE doesn't take too long to get and enhances the strength of your sword. If it works against bosses, it's definitely worth it.
Things that are not self-explanatory:
Often you need to kill enemies in a room to make something appear or disappear. This is most visible in world 4, where I have to go to some screen to kill bats
To make a boss appear, you have to type his name into the MSX keyboard
Some bosses are immune to some forms of damage
The entrance to world 10 spawns at one of a few predetermined random locations. I got very lucky in this testrun because I didn't manipulate it one bit.
Your control over midair momentum is limited, which can be a problem at times.
Everything from enemy drops to enemy behaviour is manipulatable
Glitches:
Hitting F1 allows you to cut damage drain. This is beneficial for bosses, and, in one case, even required.
Before starting on the proper run, I'll have to investigate on wether the boots and the sabre are worth it and determine, how many drops I need to manipulate. So, I hope you enjoy watching this testrun, and I will update WIPs as I see fit.

Very nice work. I'm also very impressed by how you take the effort to investigae actual improvements if someone points them out, and I'm definitely looking forward for more.

Watched the encode (thanks, Brandon!) and I must say, I quite enjoyed this run. It was overall of a very good technical quality, and you can't believe how glad I am this run doesn't go through the misty isle star world, since it contains one of the longest and most boring autoscrollers I've ever seen. On the whole, yes vote.

You can attempt directly editing the movie file (.vbm is binary I think, so you'll need a hex editor), but it is unlikely and very dependent on the game it will sync.
Anyway, this should hopefully be helpful.
If nothing works, I'm afraid you'll have to redo it.

Mario 64: The one proof that no matter how arbitrary, dumb or ridiculous a category is, someone has done it.
The TAS at hand was actually pretty entertaining, because collecting a 1up doesn't have the same long, boring animation to it collecting a star does.

Hello, RD3 and welcome to TASvideos, enjoy your stay!
By all means, if you've found an improvement, don't mind bumping an old thread. Since I'm not terribly familiar with the game however, I couldn't tell you if it's already known. As for your questions:
- You likely got the non-rr version of VBA. Be sure to get your emulators from this page to make sure they are the correct ones.
- VBA-rr does have a frame counter (and a lag counter and input display, for that matter, also very helpful) though I'm not sure about the hotkeys for them. You can reassign them anyway, so everything's good.
- Just load the movie file using VBArr, the rerecord count should be displayed with the author and everything.
Hope I could help, if you have any further questions, do not be afraid to ask
