I had a look at your encode and I would consider it publishable (the filename doesn't really need a v2, but that's something that can be changed if and when the run is accepted and uploaded to archive.org). Good work. :)

You know, you *could* just publish what you have now and add more encodes to the movie page as you finish them.

Sounds like we may need to add "can submit movies" as a user role...
We already have a user role which does not have this permission - to wit, the 'nobody' role.

This would not be [submission 2713]the first time[/submission] BBkaizo has submitted a run that isn't his own.

Are you sure 'Aims for maximum score' should be there for this game?
It's been made clear in the past that this tag exclusively applies when the author's aiming for high score at the expense of fastest time. This is not the case here; hence this tag is inappropriate and I've removed it. I believe it was a previous normal mode run of this very game where this was noted, for that matter.

Go to your forum profile; under Preferences there is an option entitled "Your movie ratings can be viewed by other users" - set that to No to hide your movie ratings.

You don't. The native resolution of the Genesis/Mega Drive is 320x224 (or 320x240 for PAL, or 256x224 for some games) and the emulator will only output at that resolution - there's only that much information present anyway so scaling it up further within the emulator is meaningless. If you want HD video, you'll need to prepare it by hand from the emulator output. You can stop by the Encoders' Corner and ask for help if you want to do this; in particular Flygon and Mister Epic are our primary HD encoders these days. A look over the Encoding Guide would be useful as well.

Is this a record for the highest amount of "no" votes ever, both in absolute value and relative to the total amount of votes?
It at least wins the absolute tally, not counting the non-run #2554: TASVideosGrue's NES Unknown Game in 07:54.12.

That, IMO, is the problem. I'd suggest grabbing, say, FFDshow configured to use x264 lossless as a codec if you just want to upload the video directly to YouTube without any post-processing.

Upon closer inspection, it's not exactly 'published movies' so much as 'has an entry in the players list'. In other words, former players are also counted.

I've placed information on how the weighting of average rating works in the [wiki SystemMovieRatingGuidelines]System Movie Rating Guidelines[/wiki] page which is displayed as the footer for the rating page.

The site code doesn't weight all votes equally - the ratings of judges are weighted higher than that of users with small numbers of posts and no submissions, for example.

Has any TAS on record ever been published without an encode?
The [movie 133]original Gunstar Heroes run[/movie] was published without an encode, though standards were rather different back then... EDIT: Here's Mister Epic's HD encode for those that don't want to wait for him to return to see it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E89YcmKQFU This run was phenomenal; I can only imagine how much work was needed to coordinate all four players to achieve the end result we see here. You know something has gone right when for the first couple of stages you think the game is an auto-scroller. Obvious yes vote.

What's rerecord?
It's the number of times you've loaded a savestate over the course of creating your run, i.e. the number of times you've resumed recording from an intermediate point in your run. It's largely a 'just for fun' statistic, but many people take it as a measure of how much time and effort has been put into the run.

This is an interesting first effort, and I hope you continue making TASes regardless of the outcome of this. With that in mind, this is a run that I just can't get into - it's too similar to the glut of other SMB runs we have on the site to be any more interesting (things like the 8-1 Goomba stomp and the fact that it's faster than the site's first published SMB run notwithstanding). As has been said by others elsewhere, coinless runs just don't make for very interesting TASes. I will have to vote No here.

As noted above, I'd suggest using archive.org if you're going to do this.

We've been placing old movies on archive.org, which supports FTP uploading - would that be sufficient?

The way I read that output, you don't have enough memory available to start encoding the run - try closing down any other applications you aren't using, perhaps?

Moved over to off-topic because this isn't really site-related. Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.66GHz), 4GB RAM, 1TB+120GB HDD (the 120GB is never used), GeForce GTX 275, Gentoo Linux.

Hi, encoders! We've recently created the Unstreamed Movies page, listing those movies which do not have a Streaming Media link. If you're looking for encoding work to do, consider encoding a movie and uploading it to a streaming media site and post it in the submission thread so that we can link to it!

Let's see. Chapter 1: walk to the right, punch and jump occasionally, beat up boss. Chapter 2: fly over stage, beat up boss. Chapter 3: fly over stage, beat up boss. Chapter 4: fly over stage, beat up boss... I just don't see much entertainment or overall technical merit here, and must vote No.

Hi Epic - there is a slight problem with your encode in that it doesn't have an aspect ratio flag set. You don't have to re-encode the movie - just run the following command:
MP4Box tailsinsonicthehedgehog-tasv2-marzojr.mp4 -par 1=14:15
and reupload the video. (Note that those numbers are platform-specific - only use them for Genesis runs - see the encoding guide for info on how to get those numbers for other platforms.)
