It's mostly the grue at this point, actually, and that's because there have been edits made to the submission text for one reason or another (over the past couple of days this has been largely to remove links to now-dead pages).

Personally, I didn't find this very compelling; it didn't offer much (if anything) that can't already be seen in the Donkey Kong Country runs, which (thanks to the system those are on) do a better job of demonstrating the gameplay. I give this a meh. With the changes we're making to the site and the introduction of a new "game resources" tab, the question has come up as to what the order of tabs in the header should be (especially with adelikat figuring out that having pages be consistent with this isn't quite as difficult as anticipated). Do you like the current order, and, if not, what should be changed? (I personally favour About being further to the left - possibly adjacent to Home - as I think it'll be the first thing a newcomer is looking for and many other sites I have seen seem to subscribe to this idea.)

Voting no, due to this run being improvable by at least 37.5 seconds, using an obsolete emulator, using the (J) ROM without good reason, and for failing to (significantly) beat a real-time run. How did this ever get published?

Hmm... Something's a little off there... :-) Anyway, this thread didn't exist previously, and has been created because - as the submission text says - Aktan is re-encoding it.

Also, wouldn't video tutorials with audio commentary be a good idea? Personally, I have an easier time watching someone do something than just reading how it is done.
It would be a good idea; leaving people with nothing in the absence of such a tutorial is not desirable, however.

The repetition of "by" and "in" looks bad; I'd rather there be headings prior to the publications list. (Can you remove the old list to see how just the new list would look?) Other than that, I do like this format for the movie list.

Just because I know people are going to be asking, here is legoking831 indicating mike89 should finish this run: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=221576#221576

As part of a longer term plan to help make the site more accessible to newcomers, I am rewriting the FAQ to more closely resemble an actual FAQ rather than the haphazard collection of links that it was before. If you are a relatively new user, or can remember when you were, please suggest further questions that you have (or had) that can be answered there.

I have started to create a page entitled TAS How To. Since I am not the most experienced TASer by a long shot, I would value input greatly from those that have been doing this a lot longer than I have.

As of a few moments ago, the opening blurb is gone; if a user is not logged in a message directing them to the "Welcome To TASVideos" page (also recently created as an amalgamation of the front blurb, the about page, and a few bits and pieces of WhyAndHow). The rest of the layout is not something I dealt with in doing so, so we can continue to argue about it...

Perhaps we should even consider having two front pages. Logged in users don't need to see the junk on top, while non logged in users may be a bit overwhelmed by everything we have there.
We could have the opening blurb only display if a user isn't logged in (I know the site has the capability to do this).

Just watching GHZ, I can tell this isn't up to our standards. The two most obvious symptoms are that you don't skip past the title screens at the first available frame, and you don't hit Robotnik at the first available frame consistently. Besides, I think this is a largely arbitrary goal choice which (if the "mostly" is to believed) you don't even adhere to. A well-done version of such a thing has the potential to be interesting (see the SMB walkathon) but whether it'll ever be suitable for publication is a different matter entirely. We have a thread for this game, and as I said in your other submission you should get feedback there first before bringing something like this to the queue. Getting expert help for something of this nature is a must. Voting no. By the way, "Hedgehog" is only spelled with one "d".

First of all, thank you for posting this here before submitting it. As for the run itself:
speed-entertainment tradeoff explanation wrote:
The console run is faster than my run due to a speed-entertainment trade-off. It is: As you can see, the ship tilts to the right. A few minutes later, it turns back to the left. In the RTS, he stops moving a couple of times in order to synchronize it with the room needed. This is indeed faster, but looks sloppy. In my TAS, I keep moving. This wastes about 5 seconds but looks alot better. I hope I've explained good enough.
(quoted here for easy reference) If I understand you correctly, you're referring to the sequence around frame 13300 in your run; since the tilt is still there, it's impossible for you to jump up to the platform on the right. I happen to think that your approach looks sloppier - it looks as though you're ignoring a better route in the room. The delay needed to get this to sync up could be handled just by inserting a pause here and there. As it stands, the run would not be acceptable because it's slower than the real-time run, which is against the rule that it must beat all existing records. I don't buy your justification for such a trade-off for the above reason, and because this just isn't an entertaining run to begin with - it's just moving slowly back and forth and jumping from platform to platform, so this type of run is not something I would view as likely to be accepted even if it were polished to be better than the current speed run. As I understand it, this is a game with multiple endings for each of the characters, and the point is to go through and rescue passengers - a run aiming for the best ending would, I think, be better received, but I don't know by how much. If you're insistent upon a run of this game, I'd suggest doing a test run of that nature and posting it here to see whether it would be worth doing an optimised run.

I have split this off from a Gens 12 thread in the Gens forum, as I think it's irrelevant there and deserves its own thread. The rerecording versions Gens and Snes9x are fairly mature, and as far as I'm concerned can be considered just as good as each other for TASing purposes. I would care more about what differs between the two ports when deciding which to make a run of - for example the Lost Vikings run preferred the Genesis version for the ability to use three players. There are also occasions where the ports differ enough to both be published. If you have a specific game in mind, I'd suggest you ask in the threads for those games. Also, welcome to the forums!

As everyone can probably guess, I had the privilege of viewing and encoding this before it was submitted. I am inclined to agree that this game is the best of the genre that this platform has to offer (though, in my mind, this is not saying very much), and this run is well-executed enough to warrant being published. I offer my congratulations on the first submitted Lynx run, as well.

It is both, IIRC. I remember commenting this out by hand when I found this undesirable; if you look at FCEU_DispMessage (video.cpp) there's an exception made during AVI recording specifically for the "playback stopped" message.

Nitpick: the option to scons is GTK2=1, not GTK=1. I'll play with this more later...

As much as having the input of a developer helps, this thread was more than a year old. Your timing sucks. :D
