How long do you think this one will be? Manipulating hits and blocks, avoiding random enounters, and developing boss strategies, I imagine, would be the primary goals.

Why are you using PCSX for this? Since you are starting new, why not use PSXjin?

I guess I'm nostalgic :P. Seriously, it's still working well. I guess I will wait for it to be outdated (like Znes 1.43).

yup. It doesn't seem 100% accurate; hell, sometimes the x-maxhins sequence actually makes the enemy do critical attacks!

uh, actually, it is pretty crappy. Just give PSXjin a try, you might be impressed. Also, have you considered getting help? Lua scripts and such?

Input may have been working well in PCSX, but music certainly wasn't.PSXjin has much better sound emulation than PCSX. Frankly, it was annoying to listen to Breath of Fire 3's music be butchered by PCSX. In any case, usage of PSXjin is not very different. You would adjust pretty quickly. I strongly suggest you use it.

https://rapidshare.com/files/458375529/movie.pxm on my way to zalagoon. Although I do fight, I will see if it's useful. After all, the first boss fight is against a 600 hp mosnter. Unless I can find enough fire-base items... I might go for what seems to be a vase glitch in the pirate town

It's been years since I've played this game, and I never was able to beat it so I'm looking forward to this one. Just wondering, does mashing the X key (or whatever key is used for selecting) right before a character attacks increase the chances for a critical? I always thought it did while I played it (actually it gave the impression that it increased the chances for criticals and blocks/counterattacks) but I could never 100% confirm it.

Janus: Since you're unable to use microstorage for these psx movies, I would suggest mediafire rather than rapidshare. I'll possibly check this out later.

it influences the outcome of the fight, but not necessarily critical. In some instances, the character missed a hit w/o the x mashing and sucessuflly hit the monster (but not critically) after mashing x

So how does mashing X affect the outcome? Does it cycle the RNG in set increments or some other way? Btw have you figured out how the RNG works yet?

w/o mashing, a character sometimes miss or does less damage. By mashing, the hit is successful, stronger, or maybe even critical/combo. also, what characters do (magic/attack/defense) also seems to influence other characters

I didn't realize this game was made by Camelot Software Planning! (Makers of the Shining Series of games). Note, the text font is even identical to Shining Force 1 and 2. Anyway, I was looking into the game. Mashing X appears to be the worst strategy - It appears dependent on when you press X. Also, I think I found the RNG. Anyway, yeah. I'd like to work with you, be a co-author on this. First and foremost, I could probably easily convert my SF2 text-advance scripts to BtB text-advance scripts.

That would be interesting. Once I finish the test run, I could certainly use the hand of an expert with LUA

http://www.mediafire.com/?dwgv2jp89786t01 on my way to Luna. These battles are really annoying. Let's hope the source of growth in Luna will let me gain enough agility to espace futher battles. in luna, I will try the vase trick to get enough magic to kill the first boss

after many tries, I found out that getting special vases is a pain. is there a special trick or something? on the internet, is it said that "earlier versions" of BtB have a glitch that lets people sell equipped rings and keep them. How early a version are we talking about?

The main problem with mediafire is that the content might be deleted in several next month, if the link isn't active enough.

http://www.mediafire.com/?3q3xcgp1jib0k7x I restarted the game. It looks like battles are "delayable", but not unavoidable. Walking into walls/walking back and forth seems to be effective
