Didn't take me long to get Chauncey from 78 to 33. Just had to get the rhythm down of holding directions for like five HP count then unhold for one frame then hold again. I will try again Friday when I have time. I think its totally possible to one cycle in normal, very insanely rare. But could happen.(pretty sure if I had hidden mansion, one cycle would be a breeze) And TASeditor, if you know how to make it more entertaining lemme know! I think the whole shit isn't entertaining when its not glitch crazy. And even the glitch part is like 20secs tops.

I think getting closer to the attacks would make it more interesting.

True I could get closer to horses and the baby bouncing(i was going for Tracking the baby while it bounced with luigi's camera), I got close to the blue mouse in the hallway haha :P The bouncing balls arent a threat since I stand where they despawn. Only interesting things Luigi can do is call out to Mario, flick his flashlight. You can walk backwards but thats really slow. I'm going to start over using Hidden Mansion savefile I found if I can. hopefully getting the ghosts way faster and one cycling will make things interesting.

In that case, you need a verification movie file.

Hmm what's that?

It's a movie file that generates the SRAM (savefile) needed to playback a TAS starting from that same savefile. It's to prove that the SRAM is legit, and it wasn't made with cheat codes or anything.

So you're saying I need to play through the full game and make a movie of it? Then I can start my tas? Cause I found the save file on gamefaqs...

Yes. As I said, it's to make sure that the SRAM is completely legit and safe.

Dang... Alright. Actually not so bad. Gamefaqs just says I have to beat the game to unlock hidden mansion. So is it still a good verification if I glitch to king boo and finish?

Since glitches are something that are in-game, yes you can. Remember that the SRAM has to be generated by the movie; the judge doesn't have to do anything for the SRAM to be created.

Hmm.. Clean SRAM generate by the movie. This is new territory and I'm at university atm so I can't research very well on mobile. I'll just fool around with dolphin tonight. Its like finish game, and then load the save file and start from reboot?

Remember to back up your savefile because Dolphin will overwrite it whenever you play back a movie starting from it afaik.

I didn't mean, you need it to glitch out, that you only see weird graphic glitches etc.. I meant you need to make it a bit more perfect looking. For example: When you inhale the balls, make it so that it looks just in time. You started inhaling it 3 seconds before the ball appears.

Im having trouble figuring out how to record a new movie, but starting on hidden mansion. when I reset dolphin, it's not reseting frames just keeps going to main screen. Just kidding, since I saved to memcard, I can start a whole new movie recording.

Oh right on. Most of my vacuuming is position it correctly, but I get what you mean now. EDIT: down to 8 7 HP in one cycle for Chauncey.. EDIT2: starting over hidden mansion because I didnt do a savestate right before starting chauncey. I may be able to pull off a few extra HP in the start with an already started vacuum pull. Which might make it a one-cyclable, but if I cant get a one cycle then going to 51 then 0 is the only fast way to do it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgiY082M1Do Here we go. Starting Hidden Mansion mode, a frame ahead of Wakssbm before Parlor, and another frame before portrait cutscene.

Wait, is the reason why you're ahead of him because of hidden mode, or optimization? Because if it's the former, it'll mean you're slower if done on a new game.

That's a good question. I can tell you the first frame is because optimization. The second frame increase did strike me as a concern due to vacuum power. So I am going to try and recall my moves so that I can test it on normal mode to check if it is indeed faster. I'm assuming the vacuum power is only increased with ghosts. [Every other frame countdown on normal, every frame countdown on hidden]

Update! Hurray I am not disappointed! I was able to Hex Edit the down direction in the savefile, so that it chose normal mode. Still kept the 2 frame gain over the wakssbm's version! Concluded: Vacuum power does not effect candles, only suctioning ghost speed. Here's a quick video for comparison http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2qpvJWj5WI

Still chugging along with Hidden Mansion mode. cleaning up my work from this morning when I compared it to wakssbm's again. Neville got taken down faster, Lydia I had to change again because I thought not shining the light at her would be faster but it is faster to run in quickly and open the curtain. Same problem with Chauncey, in every video you see people draggin the bouncing ball closer, but wakssbm goes for chauncey first then the ball. something like 23-30 frames ahead by getting chauncey out first, but I came close to averaging out the time by hitting chauncey only 3 frames behind wakssbm. So as of right now, im continuing to compare my old runs with new runs and wakssbm's run. Progress though is getting faster as I learn how to save frames faster through these weeks of learning!

Link to video Didn't want to update as much just to keep it fresh in this thread. So as you can see I've redone everything in Hidden Mansion mode, added more mario calling, light flickering, and backwards walking to spice it up. Also improved times in my capturing(not related to more powerful vacuum) and walking. One place you will see and probably question is Chauncey on the second bouncing ball, I get damaged by it to allow it to drop closer to me and fire it off faster than if I were to run around and attempt to catch it. I tried to do the same catch like I did on my first bouncing ball but no amount of recounts showed progress. Now onto the hard part haha.. the glitchzone. Only two (three if you count attempting to grab crown early) glitches left to do. Pause buffer on bats which I cannot seem to get. and the Basement drop which I always end up in bounds.

Quite entertaining run! Keep up the good work and I am glad you manage to provide with seemingly optimized tas given the fact this is your first tas :D

Thanks! It'll take me a while before I have glitchzone understood. The first skew I understand its just get the right angle and wait for the bat to hit. No buffering or other buttons need to be hit. The second skew confuses me without drawing a picture. Its like get close, pause and release right trigger, unpause move forward pause, unpause c-stick left?... Idk but it will be interesting to finally figure it out!
