This Tool Assisted Speedrun was played by me (TylerArtrip) aims to beat the game The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past as little time as possible, mostly about this run is where i do a glitch that makes Link go kind of fast and Link Glitches through the floor and it allows me to beat the game much quicker, skip every item, and skip every dungeon in the game. The next TAS i will do for A Link to the Past is beating all Dungeons which i will do for the GBA Version of this game.
Please Enjoy! ;)
  • Emulator used: vba-v24m-svn422
  • Rom Name: Zelda - a Link to the Past # GBA.GBA
  • Total Time of Play: 4:39
  • Frames: 16743
  • Rercords: 1048
The things that would be cool to see in this run is the glitch that i do in this TAS where i clip through the floor and how i speed Links up with the "Allow Left+Right Up+Down" Setting, it's only done on Emulator only.
There might be a couple of improvements in this run where at the title screen, i can use the settings for Link's Speed which i had it on medium when i could'v put it on high, the game probably could'v been beaten a lot faster.

It's so damn good, but 1st three minutes are nothing but the damn intro. Yes vote, even if I'm not that Zelda games fan...

Why did you choose the GBA version? There's already a very similar run on the SNES version: [1588] SNES The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (USA) "warp glitch" by Tompa in 03:44.65 It has better gfx, doesn't waste time on a three-minute intro and does at least show the full boss room before glitching to the credits. I don't really see a reason to favor this version over the other.

No The Palace of Four Sword glitched or a NG+ style 100% run where the Hurricane Spin riddle quest & Palace of Four Sword are unlocked naturally (by playing through Four Swords and obtaining a certain amount of Medals of Courage) are better choices to do a run on the GBA version.

This run is too similar to the published glitched run on the original SNES version. Since this isn't the original, and has worse audio and graphics, I don't think this game should be published either as a new movie or to obsolete the SNES movie. No vote.

Like CoolKirby said, this run is too similar to the already published "A Link to the Past GBA glitched", just with another way to end the game. No vote. I'm stupid. I looked the time of the SNES run instead of the GBA one. But still, the glitch is exactly like the SNES version, while the published run of GBA has a glitch that is full of lulz, which is what I search in a TAS. I'm still with my vote.

It also seems to not be very optimized.

Voted yes. Good job, Tyler, and I can't wait to see the all dungeons run (and more importantly, the MQ TAS). ;)

Meh vote. Entertaining and looks good but is very similar to the SNES run.

Is it possible to TAS multiplayer (or record a verification movie that one would need to start with save data of the sort)? Because the GBA Four Swords requires it, you cannot play alone (unlike it's buddy, the recent DSiWare re-release).

Too simalar to the current SNES movie. I would prefer a 4-sword ending.

Although it isn't the SNES, it's a good TAS. Probably wastes multiple frames and such, but looks good. Different console, different game. Hurry up and get MQ out.

Seems legit.

Voting Yes as it was faster than the 2 Greenalink posted too. And I just sure "Love" the game for having long intros yes that was sarcasm. Still voting yes

I'll go with a weak yes but you should go watch Tompa version, it's optimize and everything(you can manipulate the RNG to make the enemy hit you to move faster). I would either advice you to try and beat Tompa(which would be insanely hard) or doing a 4 swords game, because, you should use the version that is optimal(in this case it's the Snes version) and a 4 swords run would be very interesting. No matter what you decide to do, good luck ;) !

How you guys can vote no on a Zelda is insane to me. These games are like a legend.

1. The European version was used for the run. 2. There are improvements. 3. It's the same as the SNES run, except for a long intro. 4. Sound and look is worse compared to the SNES version. Voting no for this, sorry Tyler.

The "All Dungeons" has been attempted by Yuzuhara_3: nico (account) part 1 part 2 part 3 nico (free) part 1 part 2 part 3 Length: 1:02:13, Frames: 223980, Rerecord count: 251251
  • Clears all dungeons and beats Ganon
  • Uses SRAM (only to skip the intro)
  • Abuses glitches
  • Requires each dungeon to be cleared after entering there from the normal entrance (to avoid an unexpected crash and to set the goal to "clearing dungeons")
Detailed description can be found as the "uploader's comment" in the video, which is however written in Japanese. Maybe a youtube encode (and the movie file) will be coming in the near future.
Retired because of that deletion event. Projects (WIP RIP): VIP3 all-exits "almost capeless yoshiless", VIP2 all-exits, TSRP2 "normal run"

Here's a 2946 frames faster run: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1847735532/ALttPGBAGlitched.vbm Most of the time saved by choosing fast text speed at the beginning. As well as some better movement at ccertain places. The run is still improveable, I couldn't be bothered to max it out. Like two or three frames were lost to manipulate the damage boost guard. I'm surprised that it's only 5 seconds slower than the SNES run. Still, I see no reason to have both published.
