This series of games would be great candidates for TASes. They are fast paced and should have some interesting strategies. I actually started a test run for the N64 version years ago though unfortunately I was plagued by desyncs. Luckily I am able to do the PSX version. I am interested in continuing what I was doing before and that is running the original game on the Nod campaign. I recorded a test run of mission one. There's not much to say. I think there's not much to improve other than better luck with path finding and enemy blocking (although I had really good luck here especially on the bridge.). I figured It would be best to test run the game first and plan out strategies for each mission before I go for a serious run. If anyone knows this game well feel free to share any strategies. Is this the command & conquer where you could run a line of sandbags all the way to your enemy's base and build inside of their base, and they wouldn't think of destroying the sandbags?

Yeah, you could do that to block off an enemy base and you would be left alone after that. I remember doing that some in the PC version. I would suspect it would work in this too. I have no idea if it's worth doing in a TAS though. I suspect engineer rushes will be the fastest way to win many of the missions. It definitely is on the early ones.

Nod mission 2: Link to video I'm pretty sure my strategy is perfect here. I tested massing minigunners in the enemy base, but it was slower. I don't think much too much time can be shaved off here. Maybe a few seconds with better execution. This level definitely makes you multitask and shows off the kinds of strategies you can expect from this.

Very fast paced and crazy TAS :D It would be interesting to have camhack that showed the whole map at once, but that's probably not easy to do.

Outstanding work! Unless your strategies evolve tremendously, I'd like to see these submitted as part of a full TAS of the game. Don't scrap them just because they're early work. I'm really excited that we might finally see a Command and Conquer TAS!

Thanks for the feedback. These early missions should be fairly fast. I suspect the later ones will be much more complicated and longer. I won't submit this cause I know it can be improved with frame advance. I just want to make sure I have my strategies down and have something to compare to first. It's a very fun game to TAS though. :) Edit: It appears the the Playstation mouse works with Red Alert and Red Alert - Retaliation. It doesn't appear to work on this game though and I don't even think the emulator supports the Playstation mouse. I'd love to see those games done someday if mouse support is ever implemented. I'm not very familiar with those games so I would put that on my wishlist for someone else to do. :)

Another mission done in less than a minute. :) Link to video This was pretty straight forward too. You start with an MCV which you can sell to get a free engineer. Since you only need to capture the prison to win the strategy is pretty obvious here. The game is picky with deploying the MCV so bikes are used to clear some space. The next mission is really easy too. I will enjoy it while it lasts. :) It would be nice to clear every mission under a minute.

Yes it's the same as in the PC version. So far I have chosen (on mission 2 and 3)the closest starting location relative to the enemy base of the two choices it's given me. There are also some minor details like in the last mission the other starting location starts you with three engineers, but further away from the enemy base. The MCV moves faster than a engineer by a small bit so it's obviously not worth it. You're right about the Seth missions. I always found it amusing how he gets more and more annoyed with your success. "If your lucky I'll have a helicopter come pick you up". :) I have a feeling the GDI campaign would be less interesting and/or maybe longer. I don't know as I have way more experience with the Nod campaign. I only played the GDI one a couple of times total because Kane is the man. I guess engineer + apc would be a main strategy other than MCV rush.

The PC version can't be TASed until Hourglass has mouse support.

JPC-RR can only run DOS, C&C was released for Windows 95. Counter-Strike is a steam-game, which I doubt we can fully support in Hourglass... ever. As it stands right now the Steam API is not a good idea to emulate. At least I do not want to deal with the legal troubles when Valve sends us a cease and desist after adding Steam API support.

i thought jpcrr can run any computer os. command and conquer was released for dos. command and conquer counterstrike is a dos game.

I had only ever seen the Win95 version of C&C. C&C Counterstrike is a Red Alert add-on, which again I had only ever seen a Win95 version of. Also only mentioning Counterstrike without the C&C tag, makes you think of the FPS first.

C&C was originally released for DOS. C&C Gold/95 came out a little while later. It had a Covert Operations add-on for either version.

Red Alert came out for both DOS and Windows 95 at the same time, and shipped on the same CDs. It has two add-ons, Counterstrike and Aftermath, again which works with both.

Does this game work well in JPC-RR with mouse support? I have no idea how to use that emulator of course I would be willing to switch if it works well. If anyone wants to test it I would appreciate it. Here's mission 4: Link to video Nothing really interesting here, just rush the village as soon as possible. I thought you needed to kill all the buildings/villagers before, but apparently just kill the buildings I did to trigger the end. This also showcases the bad A.I. It gives up on me and I lose no men. :)
