Not TASing, just to keep a topic of it. Loved this game as child, could make a great tas I think ;D

I'm interested... I have the Japanese version of the game, so I might do some testing to see which is faster, NTSC-J or NTSC-U.

http://www.speedrun.com/run/9mex832z Current any% run, done on the PS2 version. The loading times are horrid for the PS2, so I'd say at least half an hour can already be shaved off.

If I wasn't so bad at using the ram watch I would probably try it out. I'd love to see a TAS/WIP of this game.

I'm sure there's lots of tricks to find on the gamecube version through wonky collision detection and invisible ledges, same as HP2

Oh yeah, I remember this game. Never beat it, though - I couldn't figure out the room where you have to turn the light beams. I'd be fine with a TAS of it, sure.

Ayy, I had game on my PS2, but I tried Dolphin on it, and it seems that Dolphin has so game logics problem from what I red (read?), VP6 videos are glitched out, and sometimes it goes randomly from 60fps to 0 :/

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/31871847771391610 Figured I might as well give this a shot, but don't expect much. This goes up to the end of the opening train section.Currently about 30 seconds ahead of RTA, most likely from not messing up on Malfoy and minor loading differences. I'll do a quick rundown: -Those brief pauses in gameplay seem to happen on console as well. I guess it's the game loading? Only seems to happen when leaving a cutscene. -No, you can't skip cutscenes. Just like all of the console games. -On the topic of that, a much higher degree of optimization is going to be required for this game compared to SS and CoS. The cutscenes for the most part fuck off and only involve themselves where they make sense, and the gameplay has been massively expanded thanks to the ability to control both Ron and Hermione, routing opportunities thanks to the addition of two separate potion ingredient collections, and more chances to speed up movement and attacks. Detailing how much this game changes compared to CoS is quite difficult, so just compare the RTA WR for GC CoS to the RTA for this and you'll see what I mean. *phew* -The Monster Book of Monsters is triggered when Ron is next to it and Harry is inside the room, so I get a few seconds to just do whatever. Pushing Ron doesn't work because the AI is programmed to do a 'backing up' animation so he'll get out of Harry's way, so I just leave him be. -Figured out a strat to kill this MBoM quickly. Get up close to them and don't let them move anywhere, and they'll become vulnerable faster. Saves about 8 seconds, not sure yet if this is possible with the other ones. -Fastest way to do Phase 1 of the Malfoy fight is to hit Crabbe and Goyle while you're moving towards them, and then angle Harry up-right so he can hit Malfoy as soon as the cutscene ends. As long as you spam Flipendo they'll never hit you. -Dragging Harry is really easy, just dodge some obstacles and wiggle the stick. TAS wiggling saves a good chunk of time. Anyway, besides all that I may have found a form a movement that might speed things up a lot, but I'll need to test it first before I can say with any degree of certainty.

Good to see someone giving this game a try, might give me a reason to do some RTA runs

Hey, that'd be neat! I guess I'll post a WIP every time I finish a large section or whatever. Edit: Tested the first half or so of the game. The Monster Book of Monster strat I found is applicable on the other ones, just dodge if you see it starting to bite and you're good. Also found some other minor tricks, but nothing significant.

Link to video Yup. Edit: 16:25 end of Day 1. I'll post another WIP once I'm done with Day 2 (here's hoping sub 40 minutes on that)

Nice find, I didn't do much strat finding before I ran this game, so here's hoping for some big skip!

Link to video Experimented with a varient of a glitch shown in this video (2m16sec). It IS possible to get out of bounds with the other doors via lots of swapping and time, but even if you manage to get on the first floor the door is locked until you advance the plot, so unfortunately you can't use it to skip the Glacius Challenge. I also went ahead and experimented with a lot of other doors in the game, but it doesn't seem to be possible in any location aside from the GS.

Any updates on how the TAS is progressing?

Hey Starlight, sorry didn't mean to ignore your post! The TAS actually desynced after the opening, and it runs super slow on my computer so I've kind of dropped it for now. But on the bright side, here's a video version of what's left. Shows off the monster book trick I was talking about before. Link to video

That's a shame. Does this game not run very well on dolphin? I haven't had any desync issues with my games on dolphin 5.0.

The main problem with the game is that it freezes in the emulator for like 5-10 seconds after every cutscene or significant scene transition, which doesn't really get shown in the encode since it reduces most of them. Also I'm on a laptop lel.

I would like to add that it was mentioned 3 months ago that there's a bug that (can) cause desyncs. Not sure if it may be the case for what happened to the WIP.

I remember someone posting about that on the Dolphin development topic. From that moment on, i always play the .dtm file before loading a savestate from the movie. If i understand the bug properly, that should prevent it from happening, right?

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/33842009275237948 Redid the progress I lost. Also, found a little skip that allows you to sidestep a guard's line of sight with R-targeting.
