I started work on a TAS of DDR on the PSX (I could only find a good ISO of the USA mix), and I looked on the site just in case anybody else had TASed the DDR games, and I saw it listed in the "List of Bad Game Choices". I've gotta ask, is the DDR series really that bad to TAS? I would imagine they'd be great entertainment if you get hard enough songs. Or maybe the PS versions just stink? I don't know; I've been having lots of fun so far making this run :p

The main reason why you shouldn't bother is we already have two human TAS: A man by the name of Staiain Link to video & a man by the name of Mad Matt Link to video Compared to these 2, there's no way to make a TAS more impressive than the real living thing :p

This is an example of a real good DDR TAS: Link to video BUT, it would only be for demo... in my opinion.

Every DDR song has been AAA'd on foot, people AAA crazy shit on Stepmania with their hands...and you can't speed up the arrows coming up, except with rate mods. Mad Matt's a fucking beast though.

Eh, yeah, I guess that's true. It's weird to know that the TAS can't best the human in this instance O.o

If you want to make a TAS of a rhythm game, may I recommend Gitaroo Man [PS2]? -Play on hardest difficulty, Master, which ruined a lot of people's childhoods -RNG manipulate to get optimal phrases (requires routing and testing) -There seem to be small tricks that let you attack/charge faster than expected, if this post is anything to go by: http://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/1y0id3/gitaroo_man/ It would still go in vault, but there's easily room to do something no human has done in the game yet, as opposed to more 'pure' rhythm games like DDR and IIDX where arbitrarily good human play is the norm.

Yep, the concept of TASing to most Bemani* games (especially the currently TAS-able ones) is that it's simply Autoplay on. The only TAS scenario for a Bemani I could currently see is by playing the original Beatmania and creating new songs/remixes while still hitting the actual notes perfectly. But.... the original Beatmania.... -shudder- I wholeheartedly second Gitaroo Man, if/when it's possible; it would be much more entertaining. PS2 TASing hasn't gotten too far, has it? :o *Bemani refers to Konami's brand of rhythm games

It is currently possible to TAS PS2 games, but tasvideos does not (yet) accept them. (PS2 TASes are regularly posted to nicovideo.)
