Hazy Maze Cave was marvellous! Im impressed as everyone at how quickly you progress with high delicacy. I wish you could've fixed the camera angle for some of the stars you obtained in Hazy Maze Cave but I wasnt that bothered with it. Keep it up.

I've watched the last two WIPS two or three times now, and I've also been following the argument in this thread about camera angles and entertainment vs. speed. To be honest, I have no idea why you guys are getting so caught up over the angles. They're really not that bad, perhaps one or two places where it sits uncomfortably close to mario's face, but it's not like the camera stays in that position for any longer than a couple seconds at a time, and personally I don't think they remove from the entertainment value to any great extent. My two cents. It's a little ridiculous when Rikku shaves minutes off of the posted run and then people say stuff like "I wasn't that bothered with it." It's sort of belittling

The hell it is. He got 2-3 stars without us being able to see were he went. To belittle in this case would be if I would have said: "Your camera angle is bad/wrong". In my previous post, I said I wish you could've.. Implying a mild wish. When I wrote that, I meant I was not that bothered with it to complain about it. Case closed.

XD Rikku. Seriously, I'd only use that while Mario's falling after entering the level.

Yes, it is allowed but... :D I wouldn't use it even though it would create a little variance in the run. I'm sure few would think it's nice/cool or something but most people wouldn't like it that much. So my advice is: don't use it. Though if you still decide to use it, pick a star which is shortest.
Which run should I encode next? :)

I think you should do that once or twice. It feels like a roller coaster watching it and I like it :)

I found that quite annoying.

I'm with adelikat. playing with turbo functions of games can be fun, but that was not aesthetically pleasing at all.

Not a chance. What it does do is make you lose weight as you rush to the bathroom to throw up from dizziness (IMO)

I think that the technique that was shown on the Youtube video should be included in the TAS. It looks funny, and it adds some variety. The star obtained in the video can be obtained in a very short time, so I think that using the technique on this particular star won't annoy anyone, rather it makes this boring star a bit more interesting. No one isn't probably going to redo the run because of a few wasted frames, 120 stars TAS is a gigantic project anyway.

I think you forgot to choose not to save when you got the star from toad outside the entrance to Hazy Maze Cave. That said, I am in awe after what I have just seen. I especially liked the 8 red coins route.

That was very annoying, not to mention potentially seizure-inducing for sensitive viewers. Can we do a pure-speed run this time? FODA's run had a lot of trade-offs to satisfy the pro-entertainment people. I think the camera angles in the last WIP are just fine.

Based on the huge camera debate, the decision for speed only, not so much entertainment was already made. This is not sacrificing any frames for entertainment (and IMO, is not using entertainment when it wouldn't waste frames) and is making unorthodox camera positions.

if it makes it faster, then use it. if it doesn't, then don't.

HMC was truly inventive, congrats. The camera complaint has really gotten very small compared to the improvement, but it's still a complaint I have (not picking the stationary camera). But no need to argue on that anymore, rikku's run aims for speed only.

My only gripe is that if the angles were better, it could be faster AND still retain the same entertainment as the old run, but well thought out use of camera angles was carelessly thrown out of the window.

That turbo-camera example is what I was referring to as a comparison to wobbling in a 3D game. It looks really bad. So...will this run aim to obsolete the current published run?

yes, and will do so based on minutes saved, not improvement in entertainment. A waste, I say.

come off the high horse... Camera voodoo is not that entertaining. Its no loss, the run will not only be faster, but the overall smoothness makes it more entertaining to watch as well. The camera work is fine. Carrying that arguement any further would be pointless.

That camera shaking fits into the category of "Don't shake the camera by hitting left/right rapidly".

I am confused as to whether or not people see non-camera problems with this run in terms of entertainment. What has Rikku done so far in which he has sacrificed entertainment for speed? I guess to me, the faster a star is done, the more entertaining it is. I am assuming here that camera angles have no effect on speed. Correct me if I am wrong.

That's not quite true. There are areas where less exciting camera angles will give the game less to draw, reducing lag. AKA posted a demonstration in Dire Dire Docks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNQxeDYSU5Q

Oh yes, I know about the lag issues in Dire Dire Docks but forgot mention it in my previous post. To be clear, I was wondering whether or not camera angles can affect speed when lag is not an issue. People have said that Rikku has sacrificed entertainment for speed. Since it seems to me that camera angles only affect entertainment and not speed (with the exception of lag), I was wondering what Rikku has actually done to increase speed that has also reduced entertainment. Of course, I realize that entertainment is highly subjective. I for one have been thoroughly entertained from what I have seen thus far.
