I'm proud to announce TASGiving 2021, the sure-to-be hit sequel to TASGiving 2020! TASGiving is a TAS-focused charity marathon that benefits NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. This year's event will be running Friday, November 26th (the day after Thanksgiving!) through Sunday, November 28th (three days after Thanksgiving!). The first TASGiving raised over $10,000 for NAMI, and this year we're hoping to do it again! Submissions are currently open, and will be running until October 15th! Submissions are OPEN at: http://s.tasgiving.org/ Join the TASGiving Discord server: http://discord.tasgiving.org/ For TASvideos content, you are not required to only submit your own runs! TASGiving's main focus is on commentary, so if you think you can provide informative, well-rehearsed commentary over one of our published runs, feel free to submit it yourself! Just make sure it's properly attributed (i.e, don't try to take credit for it), and ideally also obtain permission from the original author/s, though that is not required as it may not be possible in some cases. Feel free to submit multiple runs as well! The form allows four runs per person, so don't be shy if you think you can provide that much! Submissions don't have to be limited to normal TASes, either: RTA runs and TAS showcases/exhibitions can also be submitted. We want a good variety of nicely commentated content! Last year was a bit quiet on all fronts, so I'd like for TASvideos to be more involved with this year's event. In addition to being staff for the event, I will be acting as a liaison for both sides, actively updating this thread with new information as soon as it's available as well as taking suggestions and feedback from here back to the staff team. Hopefully I will be able to promote more direct interaction as well, but at the very least I can be the messenger girl. Feel free to chime in on anything you want here! Want to suggest a run but don't want to commentate it yourself? Post away! Have a cool idea for an exhibition/showcase and want to try to make it happen? Post it down! Have a question about the event and want it answered in a timely fashion? Smash that post button! Are you still really upset over the name Taco Fridays because Tuesdays makes more alliterative sense and is still readily available? I know you are, Samsara! You don't have to submit a run to be able to contribute, so don't hold back!

I'm out of the loop. Can I request for some more information? Since the 12 page long form can't be skipped until required fields filled in. I guess it's possible to submit commentary speedruns online (live stream) and or offline (recorded)... ? I opened the following links but couldn't figure it out. https://tasgiving.org/ --> no video https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc3ed4NX0Dk4_vAFI4WOl2q4eC1TlatWOYbGDQKBPRYdpOTwA/viewform?usp=send_form --> volunteer form with required fields https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdLLWBVmLpBLT1fxHljfqGSnl7QnIGYZae07YDfzW3RWAFJFw/viewform?fbzx=-6871505502756041612 --> submit form with required fields edit: okay I see on dwangoAC's youtube channel the previous TASGiving's submissions where some people with webcamera or not commentate on their TAS, there doesn't seems to be any interactivity between the viewers or any host... right? edit2: err so these are real time speedrunning stuff with live comments? judging by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0Lft38iK6Q

This would be a great opportunity to revive the SpeedTAS concept from 2016. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXLP-L2ZgpQ Simply: RTA runners get X amount of time to practice a game. TASers have Y amount of time to make a TAS and submit it to the marathon. Fastest TASes are played on stream vs RTA runner for comparison.

Hi MESHUGGAH! Sure, I'll be happy to answer any questions you have! TASGiving is similar to GDQ in that it's a marathon, however we have much more focus on TAS content and we have much more flexibility with what is shown. If you would like to submit a pre-recorded TAS with commentary, or submit a TAS for live playback with live commentary, you can do so here. As well, if you'd like to submit an RTA run or a showcase exhibition of a game, those are acceptable as well! As for interactions with the viewers and the hosts, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you have an idea for chat interactivity? Feel free to reach out to me here in this thread, as we're monitoring it. If you'd prefer, I'm also in the discord and my PMs here on the forum are always open! Thanks! Taters

I was following the majority of GDQs which is hosted on twitch chat, were (usually) physically based public event with microphone announcer, all kind of guests, scripts for an actual production value entertainment, interviews and other charity and donating related stuffs. I wasn't following the speedrun scene between (edited) 2019-09 ~ 2021~07 apart from sometime glancing at the reddit speedrun. I've read the site news text, this thread OP post and your post. I'm still unsure if I understand what is this event or which video from dwangoAC should I watch to understand what is happening (as a production, not the games themselves). edit: twitch chat interactivity was part of the TAS block at some GDQs

Similar to GDQ, TASGiving will be hosted on twitch. We do have a handful of people who will be in the same room together handling production, but we are currently an online-only event. We do have announcers who will read donations and speak to the viewers about upcoming runs, our guests would be the runners and staff, we will be having interviews this event, and we are working with NAMI and will be promoting their efforts throughout the event. If you'd like to see videos of last year's event, there is a playlist on dwangoAC's youtube channel here There aren't too many that are not specifically related to the games being run, however the preshow here does introduce people and explain the event. Last year we did have a little bit of interaction between hosts, runners, commentators, and chat, but I don't believe anything formal is planned specifically on the TASGiving staff side at this time. If a runner or commentator would like to interact with chat, that's just fine, and we can work to facilitate.

Thank you for the elaborated answers taters! Yes, this was the video I was missing to understand this TASGiving as someone who heard it for the first time. Well, depending on the video game and it's TAS popularity, difficulty and it's technical knowledge, questions might arise in form of twitch chat users' message or as a generic interview between the staff and the author or commentator who submitted: - viewers might have questions to the author (how did you come up with this idea, what motivated you, why are you so good, is this RTA viable) - viewers might require more time or knowledge to understand a specific run (requesting elaboration or analogy, drawings or showing webpages with information, speedrun being way too fast to be commentated) - viewers might have information (while this is usually only true for streams with relatively low count of participants to be able to share a possible improvement or fixing a mistake while the commentator speaks) As a viewer, I always like to know as much as possible about the runners and their mindset, their stories and history of finding out the solution to problems, the crazy goals and attempts done in order to achieve 1st place. These are usually conducted with an interviewer who has knowledge of the games and able to ask questions the commentator is able to answer. edit: these are just ideas based on what I've seen on GDQs, but I've also loved the ability for the chat to participate in manipulating the events of playing a game. There's a lot @ Wiki: TASBot (not every tasbot appearance are documented on the page if I'm correct)

It's still early and we're still a bit low on submissions, so the deadline has been extended by another month to October 15th. Remember, you're totally allowed to submit any of our published runs even if it isn't yours, as long as you can provide commentary over it! Feel free to submit multiple as well. If you don't want to submit anything yourself, at least spread the word to other people who may be interested so that they can submit.
