I thought 9 was the default transparency toggler. That's what I did for the top of Big Boo's Tower.

9 hm... I'm using 3 so that I can see through the water in the levels I've done so far. But I'm going to continue the movie, I'll do the making of the movie and hopefully the solving of the transparency can either come during or at the end of the final product. Hm once again having trouble getting hex editing to work (creating spliced movies that don't quite work) a bunch of hassle over 45 frames saved... I'll get it done right eventually

This game has begun to bore me. With the transparency issues, plus lack of good strategies besides turbo Coo flying, plus not being able to successfully use 2 players, and other more fun runs being worked on (Rayman 2, Kirby 64, DKC2 102% improvement), that I'm putting this away in the closet, to take out at a MUCH later time. I encourage anyone else to try it.

This topic should be bumped now that the new version of Snes9x fixed the transparency problem. =) I'd love to see a run of these game. It's always gotten a bad rap due to it being not quite as good as Kirby Super Star, despite being released later, but I think it has a lot of good qualities. I like how the goal in each stage essentially prevents Kirby from relying on a single powerup, and I daresay it may even make a speedrun of this more entertaining than the other Kirby speedruns.

My try of 1-1: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1046815377/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%203.smv I figured out that: -You can jump, and hit an enemy from below to fall quicker. -Using Gooey's lick in midair makes him fall faster. -Holding left (or right) before you start a room gets you a walking start. If you don't hold it down, you have to wait a little longer to start going. I made a TAS up to World 5-2 (I think) for ZSNES, but it turned out horrible due to glitches that the emulator can't fix.

1-2: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/472297908/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%203%201-2.smv Why shouldn't Gooey be played as? He seems to save time at some parts. Is there any way to make a video continue on from a different one before?

Looks nice, but you really should be using v. 1.51 instead of 1.43! With 1.43, you'll get stuck as soon as Kirby reaches a stage with water, due to transparency problems with the emulator.

Oh, ok. Uh, how do you connect videos? By hex-editing? I don't want to be sending the same video over and over, whenever I want to show you guys some part/level. I also don't want to do it in parts, when it should be done whole.

Shoot! Just figured out that you can spit Gooey towards a door, and he can enter before Kirby.

You simply load the video NOT in read-only mode, then load a save state to where you want to continue from and you'll pick up recording from where you loaded the save state.

YOSH1, To continue recording from a previous movie, play back the old movie, pause the emulator near the end of the movie (but before the movie ends). Make a saved state while the emulator is paused. Replay the movie and make sure the "read only" part of the movie playback screen is not checked. Once you start playing the movie back, reload the same saved state and you will continue recording from that point onward. PS: Start over and use snes9x 1.51 edit: beaten by Sir VG, oh well :)

No, I mean if it's possible to connect two videos together, not continue from one.

yes you can hex the movies together, but it is not the smartest way of creating a full run of the game. Why would you not just record all the levels together in the same smv instead of pasting them together later on?

And besides, if you want to send us a video later that you want to be generous and have us start from a certain spot, you can always include a save state (not on dehacked's page, but you could always use sendspace or something).

Ok, my brother wants to help me with this. It's our summer vacation right now, and we have a lot of time to work. He'll play as Kirby.

Ok: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/19700065/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%203.smv 1-1 again. EDIT: Ok. (Heh, have you noticed how many times I started a sentence with "ok"?)

If nobody has posted since your last post, please just use the edit button instead of making 2-20 posts in a row. Thanks.

If anyone can continue this, I would officially love them. Kirby's Dreamland 3 is so overlooked. It's my absolute favourite Kirby game, and it's the one that I REALLY want to see done. It'd have to be 100% for final boss purposes though. Although the term of 100% may be a bit of an issue that nobody brought up. Collecting all of the Heart-stars (that's actually the official name) and defeating Dark Matter/ O is only 97%. To get the full 100%, one would have to Play and beat the Mini-game collection, beat the jumping game (10 successful jumps are required to get the percent) and defeat the Boss Butch. Maybe this should be considered a bit.

Sorry for the bump. I was wondering if this is ok to do for every world. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/753831298/KDL3.smv It saved me a few frames, since I reset it. I haven't worked on this for quite a while since I was working on other stuff.

Since nobody's doing anything on this run, I think I'll give it a shot. It would be my very first TAS ever. I figure, if nobody else will do this, I might as well. Though I don't know if I'll finish it. Currently I'm experimenting. Here is my 1-1 stage. If you see anything you might want to point out, please do so. You have to download SNES9x 1.51 to view this video. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/857256530/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%203%20%28U%29.smv And by the way, this is without using two players.[/url]

You can bind a button to "turbo start" in page three of snes9x's hotkey configuration dialog. That should get you through the starting screens faster. You can move to the right while falling at the start of the level. Other than that, I didn't see anything improvable.

I actually knew about the falling to the right thing, but when I hit the ground it's nearly impossible to start running right away. I have to stand for a second. I guess it would have something to do with holding the right button while falling and trying to start it up again. Small thing. I think if I did it either way it would be roughly the same. As for the faster menu screens, that was an accedent, but I don't think it's worth going back for. On another note, Level 1 and 2 now! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/502731190/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%203%20%28U%29.smv I feel pretty good about this level. Flying with Chu Chu is definately faster than having kirby run and jump over each waddle dee. The part I had the most trouble with was the last section where you had to jump all through the Brunto Burts. After I got through that, I did a state save because the final jumps with avoiding the Nruffs were really hard and annoying. On the last jump I spin in the air for a second. This is so that last Nruff can get below the final platform before I get there, so I don't ram into him. Also, you'd be surprised how many times I had to reset the heart star room to get the jump perfect. :P might experiment on level three tonight. I'm sort of dreading using turbo coo since he's hard enough to control without turbo. I fear 4-4 Just so you know, Nago is probably one of the most useful animal friends. His triple jump gets reset when you land on an enemy while holding (B) so he's very good for staying airborne when there's lots of enemies. He's also nessecary for any level with lots of sand, so it's actually quite worth it to go to the effort to fetch him for 3-2 (though that's getting ahead of myself. baby steps here.) Something I'm worried about. Sometimes when I go to load my movie, it's a second less or a second more of it's original time. Will this cause desync?

Sorry, I couldn't watch as I have the wrong ROM version. In case you're interested, I tested all 56 powers against King Dedede to compare their strength. Most of them did the same amount of damage as normal Kirby's star-shot (multi-star-shot does double, obviously). 50%: - Kirby + Cutter - Coo + Electric - Nago + Fire 75%: - Coo + Parasol 150%: - Kirby/Coo/Kine + Needle - Kirby + Parasol - Chuchu + Fire - Kirby/Rick/Coo + Broom 200% - Rick + Needle/Parasol - Nago + Stone (only 100% on the ground) - Chuchu + Stone/Broom Kine is another good partner to consider for level-running -- with Electric or Broom, he can rush forward and just plow through enemies at running speed. He jumps really high, too. Of course, I don't have to emphasize that he's the best for underwater.... Are you abusing headbutts on the enemies as you run around? You know, jump up and hit them from underneath... Also, when doing a running jump on level ground, you can safely land on walking enemies without slowing down. Please control Gooey with 2P if you're not already! Unlike other Kirby games, grabbing/dropping a power/helper doesn't pause the game, so Gooey is free to mess around while Kirby continually runs forward -- this should make a lot of the movie more interesting. In fact, you may end up being able to showcase all 56 abilities during the run.... You do know that Gooey can ride helpers, too? In fact, Gooey can help prepare for bosses by grabbing a power/helper that would otherwise slow Kirby down. During the boss battles, you can have fun with Kirby and Gooey trading powers/helpers. Make sure to have Kirby "kill" Gooey a couple of times, too.

Well I don't think I'll use gooey since he gets in the way and takes up a health. In fact, I never used helpers in Kirby super star either (except for the nessesary parts in great cave offensive) Helpers don't help. they get killed or get you killed. And I've actually started over since I think I can fix a couple things up, and I'm learning about how to use the frame advance (though I'm finding it rather hard to use) Also, I think it would be highly unlikely to see all the abilities. In fact, you won't. Just use what I need. For bosses, I'm taking what's available. In the last level of Grass land is a parasol guy I can eat. I use that for whispy. Parasol is actually very powerful. I use Parasol at Acro and Pon and Con as well. For Ado and Dedede, I use needle since they're convenient to get. I need to go a little out of my way to get parasol for whispy/Pon and Con, but it's well worth it. My new level 1. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1139039960/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%20345%20%28U%29.smv It's too late in the day for me to properly function for this, so I'm stopping for today. Let me say that there is a large possibility I won't finish this, so don't yell at me too much if I say I quit. (which I haven't) Oh, and just so you know, Nago+stone does 200% when you hit the enemy with the actual rock. For the dust cloud, it's 100%
