http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Within+a+Deep+Forest This is a fun and wonderful game. With a little rubber ball. And Metroid-style exploration. Yay! I completed it on Normal and unlocked the two secret games.. there's a speedrun mode I'm not touching though.

This is a blast! Best game I've played in a while. I'm currently working on the cavern level that requries the trickery with the glass ball. I also got Ball #4 before Ball #3 (oooooh sequence break!!)

It's supposedly possible to beat the game without balls 2 and 4 but I can't even imagine how to use ball 1 to get some places. Ball 5 is the absolute most fun to use.

Wow, such an awesome game. Yeah, I got Ball 4 before Ball 3 too. And I'm stuck already. Bablo is not too good at non-linear games.

I haven't played it yet (just finished installing), but the description on the website makes it sound like Cave Story. (Not a bad thing.)

Wait, you like ball 5 the MOST? You must be some kind of masochist. I beat this game a few days ago, but I didn't bother with the secret games, because damned if I'm going to go through that area again. Are they any good?

I think I have encountered a severe bug. I go to a cyberspace-esque area after getting ball 4 (before 3), but the level itself is actually way different from the one shown on the screen. Is this intentional or am I screwed?

too bad it frequently crashes within wine, it's fun while it lasts.

All the information is actually there, you just have to think about it a little. There are two or three places like that if I remember correctly, but they might just be different sections of one long maze. To solve one of them you need ball 3...

I found another sequence break. I couldn't find where to go after getting Ball #7, except for the water level, which I couldn't get past the third room. I left the level, and then I found this place called "savegame.ini" and started trying things until I added "HasFreezeBall=1" to the list, which gave me a new Ball! But now I've found where to actually go, so the game continues without said sequence break / cheat. Ball #4 is my favorite, especially when always holding S.

there is a "speedrun" button in the menus, and a record list on the site (holder of 1rst place seems to be the game author with about 20 minutes (!!)). unfortunately, there is no replay downloadable to my knowlegde. have I missed something ? since the game has an interesting physics engine, I'd figured that replays would have been nice to watch. other reason is that I suck (and this word is still far lower than reality) at platforms games.

Hey cool game, I just got the forth ball (before third as well) and don't know where to go yet. I'm sure alot of you have some sort of USB controller and would like to use it for the game. There is a program called joy to key that is great for linux, and someone make a windows version that is also great, here is that windows version (I host because it was very hard for me to find with google).
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

You are reading my thoughts flagitious. I remembered there is a program like that but didn't remember its name. Thanks.

I think that's intentional.

Dang just went into the area where there are several sets of walls each a different color, and I get to a part where the one that is active changes with which ball I am, but apparantly I need either the 6th 7th or 8th ball to continue. If the music weren't so relaxing I'd be pissed off right now.

I thought Balls 1 thru 4 were enough in that area. Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Meh, I've found several 4-digit codes now, but what do I do with them? :/ EDIT: Nevermind.

I'm pretty sure you only need balls 1, 2, 3 and 4 in that area. As a matter of fact, it's impossible to have gotten 6-8 before completing this area. ... I'm stuck again. Where do you go after getting the first 8 balls? I'm at "Dr. Cliche's secret underwater lab" or something like that but I think some sort of a flying or swimming ability is required to survive the square room with the lasers.

Spoiler (highlight to see): Head to the lower-right of the main map (underground), where there is a lava pit with air blowing up from it. Fall down and head to the right. There's an area that you can use Ball #8 to bounce very high and get to ShadowLands.

Shadowlands by the way is the hardest level... ;_;

Indeed... quite frustrating at times Although I finally got all balls. Definitely a great game! Nice atmosphere/level design and all these lovely details <3 I guess someone should suggest the author to implement some kind of movie format. I'd really like to actually watch other people's speedruns of this game.

Is ball 8 gotten in the same area as ball 7? I left there a little prematurely after getting ball 7. And I'm stuck where Blublu was in the Lab with the square of lasers.

a speedrun of cavestory was done on those forums. I'm not sure how it was recording though, probably fraps or camtasia. anyway, if it could be done, I' gladly watch it too.

You must get all balls before going to the Lab. No, #8 is to the west.
