Yet another project by adelikat and Brushy. This is primarily the work of me though. Brushy did the first level up to the boss, and I went crazy and finished it from there.
We managed to improve Genisto's published movie by 598 frames or 10 seconds (minus 2 frames :p).
A lot of the improvement came from exploiting the "window of opportunity" just before each boss room. There is one frame where you can jump. In fact you can continue to jump as long as you jump on the 1 frame of opportunity. This allows scrooge to jump into the room instead of SLOWLY walk into it. Also, I can get much closer to the boss and hit him much sooner.
Other improvements come from:
  • Maximizing vertical movement by the use of pogo. The pogo has the greatest vertical speed. In rooms with "ropes" it is faster to pogo first before climbing it.
  • Lag reduction, especially in the first level.
  • Small optimizations from better precision and better tools.
I hope you enjoy! BTW, my run gets the "worst" ending like Genisto.

Summary:

  • Uses FCEU 0.98.16
  • Aims for fastest completion
  • Manipulates luck
  • Takes damage to save time

Bisqwit: Removed the layout-destroying indentations (read TextFormattingRules); maybe you didn't notice that the submission form says that Space in the beginning of line creates preformatted text (no wrapping, monospace font)..
Bisqwit: And generally just editing in order to update the thread title; I replaced submission #1148 with submission #1149.
Bisqwit: Accepting for being an improvement to existing movie and receiving ok votes.

Actually, you didn't catch it soon enough. :D From the last thread, does this window exist in Duck Tales 1?

It isn't every day that a Genisto run is improved by 10 seconds. Plus this game is pretty charming. It's too bad the treasures are gone. But we have each other. And I suppose true friendship is all we really need for hap....oh shit my treasures are safe after all! Peace out nephew-ducks! I'M RICH BITCH!

Funniest thing about this run is the sound of rope climbing, other than that, it was a ok game, nothing spectacular. Nevertheless, voting yes.

While not as legendary as it's predecessor, it's still a solid platformer. It's also fast so it doesn't get old. And it's an improvement, so yes for this one.

No more late night submissions. Thanks Bisqwit for cleaning it up. Also, I forgot to put my partner's name on the submission form! I hope that when/if it gets published that it is properly attributted to "adelikat & guybrush". And sorry brushy :(

You can edit the name of the submitter just by editing the submission.

At frame ~3650, you should have used the pogo stick to jump into the pit to gain greater vertical velocity and reach the bottom faster. I tested it, it would have been 3 frames faster. I couldn't find more instances of this error though. At the pirate boss, couldn't you have luck-manipulated him to jump closer towards the chest that appears?

The chest always spawns X pixels away from Scrooge.

No, the treasure chests appear at x pixels in front of scrooge, regardless of position. As long as I am moving at full speed when it appears, it is optimal. EDIT: woops, overlooked Morrison's post. EDIT2: The spot at ~3650 acutally doesn't cost any time due to the 1st boss. His pattern is determined by the frame you enter (as determined by 008F). The optimal boss pattern occurs about every 30-50 frames (forget which). Accoding to my calculations, we would have to save 17 frames to see even 1 frame of actual improvement.

I voted "yes" because it's an entertaining run that obsoletes the old DT2 TAS.

I wasn't offended because you did most of the work (I still have to see if it's good enough ;P) but I was the one who dragged you to work on this game, so I think it's appropriate to mention my name somewhere, not that it's necesarry.

Good work indeed! Now I just gotta wait until somebody does runs which get all the treasures too. That would be nice.
