Is it just me, or that whenever I make a savestate during the movie (so I don't have to watch the intro every time) the movie doesn't play back when I reload the savestate? Is it because I have the wrong rom? I'm using Rayman 2 - The Great Escape (U) [!].z64

Yes, you have correct ROM: You don't have read-only selected. How does the route of Fairy Glade look?

I clicked the movie playback option, then selected "open read-only", but when I loaded the savestate the movie still didn't play back. Or is it when you load the rom, you have to select "open as read-only"?

It ran fine up until you were at the overworld section bit leading to the second level, you take ages to get through the text and your analougue stick movments keep changing during it and then you start doing funny things when you eventually get into the level. I have a feeling that you've enabled the expansion pack for this game which causes random desyncs across many N64 games, maybe disabling it might help.

maybe you used the 'Save As..' option, then you have to use the 'Save State' option after doing that still, else it doesn't save it.

I tried that, but then it doesn't let me load the savestate.

well I use 'Load As..' to load it and it works for me, I never really use the other Load option.

That's the problem ... when I use "save as" I name the save file, say, rayman2 for example, and when I use "load as" it doesn't show up at all in the folder I saved it in.

How would I disable the expansion pack? I tried restarting the ROM, and in order to continue at the very first menu screen I have to hit start, and this brings to the next screen which says expansion pack detected. I got a desynch myself at that part, so I restarted that level. I'll post another WIP that finishes at the same spot the current WIP does. The reason it desycnhed for you is that I pressed A to enter the Fairy Glade, and it registered 1 frame too early, so to fix it I simply waited another frame and ot worked.

When you originally played back the file, you had it in write mode, so it played out the movie as I played it until you created a save state; at that point it overwrote everything afterwards as blank, assuming that you were going to start recording from that point on, and the movie file that you now have won't work past that point. Redownload the movie file, and open it as read only.

you need to have the filename end with .m64 I believe.

Fairy Glade Current WIP This is the first WIP, done over to avoid desynchs. Edit: aaaaannnd desynched just at the last moment, when trying to jump on those accordian moving platforms. But everything up until then should be fine.

that's because, as I said in my first post in reply to you, that you have to use the 'Save State' option after using the 'Save As..' option. doesn't make sense, but that's how it is. I had to find that out myself too. once you have given it the filename you want to save it as, the save state option will use that and thus then it should be made and able to be loaded.

Thanks, now I can play movies back from savestates. The only problem? The character moves around in circles and doesn't do anything. Desync maybe?

Basically right as soon as you gain control of the character. What version of Mupen are you using?

It worked for me now. Wasn't that much happening in the beginning really. It will come more interesting places. I remember I didn't something nice somewhere in the game, hmm... Got to play the game again as said before.

I'm using the same Mupen and rom ... I don't understand why it doesn't work.

It ran fine for me except it desynced a few seconds from the end of the movie just as you're about o collect the lum on top of the ship, you mess up the jump leading to it then you keep running against the ship before you fall to the ground. BTW, did you try to avoid some of the cutscenes e.g. bady Gloobox scene or the whose king scene. There probally is a way, but you'd have to experiment.

AKA I don't remember where that is... you mean on top of a tower that's spewing out sludge? I've tried skipping cutscenes, none of the buttons make them skip... How is it possible to turn off the expansion pack? This'll be really important if it is the source of desynchs. latest WIP: Fairy Glade current WIP didn't get any desynchs from making this segment

It ran perfectly fine without desyncs good job, although hopefully with some new abilties you might be able to do some more surprising things.

If I remember correctly, some of the more suprisinging things in this game are: Purple Lums, for awesome swinging acrobatics charged up shots, so it'll become a Megaman game helicopter flying (in one of the sanctuaries) more powerful fist shots and in general, the levels will get harder and more entertaining. My hope is that many oppurtunities come where Lums are gotten in fast and surpising ways, as well as perfectly timed/aimed shots at rapid speed.

There should be like some rule that authors of WIPs provide save states that belong to the WIP starting from the first point of change in comparison with the previous WIP.. I've never successfully saved my own states so far either, but when I get a save state from the author I have no problem to load it at all (referring to SM64 120 stars here by FODA here)..
