Konami's little Contra game beaten in 11:10 with FIRE! ;)
  • VBA-rerecording-14 used (works fine in latest version)
  • Used "Allow Left+Right / Up+Down" option.
  • No password and warp used.
  • Abused programming error with L+R / U+D option.
  • No hit taken and death during the movie.
  • Aim for fastest time.
This is Konami's little platform shooter game released in 1991 for Gameboy, it's just the same as Contra except for the title. There's 5 stages to go through and 3 weapon power-ups; I chose Fire Shot because it's the strongest weapon.
I chose this game to make a tool-assisted superplay movie yesterday and I found this game is perfect to start with for me because it's short and not difficult to deal with.
I would like to thank Hero of the Day for his thread and his comment on L+R / U+D glitch being used to pass through solid objects and walls. I was already aware of the L+R / U+D glitch being used to keep the character moving in whatever direction you like and attack up directly, but I didn't know that it also makes the character go thorough objects and walls. I also would like to thank Hero of the Day again for his quick test-run which I could compare my run to. Here is the table; the timing is done for each stage when the screen turns white when a stage is completed and the end of movie.

I hope I did the calculation correctly, enjoy the movie.

I never did get past level 3 when I had this game as a kid. Not the most exciting to watch, but pretty well done as far as I can see.

Your welcome ventuz, and thank you for making this run and mentioning my name. I am very happy you could get some useful information from my test run. The use of the fire weapon was unexpected and seems to be more powerfull than the spread gun, nice choice. The death at the end was a good idea too getting as close to the brain to cause damage more quickly, I never thought of that. Overall it is a short, well made, and entertaining run of a Contra game, therefore it gets a solid yes vote from me.
They're off to find the hero of the day...

My first thought was 'augh, gray, side-scrolling practically, eeehhhh,' but you played it very well and I was very amused by the glitching in the top-down levels, so you've earned a yes here.

I enjoyed this, it's short and sweet. Excellent strategy and use of glitches, voting yes.

Thanks for comment, I'm glad you all liked it so far. I'm working on new improved run for this Operation C, a more preciseness movie. It's approx 30 frames more faster up to in middle of stage 2. I don't know if I should hit cancel on this submission now or later when I'm done. Expect to see my new run to be up sometime after my sleep.

I'm going ahead cancel this one now. This one is badly beaten in speed. I'll be able to finish the new one tonight for sure.
