I'm making a testrun based on the speeddemosarchive speedrun, and at 6:00 minutes I'm 2 minutes faster than that movie, but with too much money left. I'll finish it and then post here and study the best place to get the money. This game has many bugs, but I haven't used any yet. I'll see if the "slide to the left side of the screen" bug is usefull on the last castle or not.

That "slide to the left" bug is also in Sonic 2 SMS version. I take it you're doing a testrun using DR.SMS on the GBA.

there is an emulator available now, go here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5710&start=60 Do you know what bug I'm talking about? you go to the next screen, then you go back to the left screen, run to the left and duck just before the edge of the screen. The screen loops, so you can do it again, but the set of enemies is that of the next screen. You can keep doing this until the last boss appears on the first screen of the castle.

Well, after using the glitch to "visit" every room in the castle from the 1st floor to the 3 floors below it (unfortunately, the princess is on the 2nd floor above), it sent me to the 2 cragg lake screens. The cragg lake loops there, but when trying to loop a third time, it resets the game. Unless it's possible to zip to the upper room during the janken fight (without dying in a loop), the last castle needs to be passed normally.

FODA, keep tasing/testing it until you are finished. In case you finish your run before the new dega emulator gets accepted by this site, keep your sms runs and submit all of them at once when you will be given the green light ;)

Ok, my first testrun is 13:51 minutes long, here it is: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1658923486/alexkiddmw-foda-testrun1.mmv warning: for alex kidd enthusiasts only, as a TAS it isn't much impressive yet, I'd just like suggestion on route, or if I missed anything major. - The whole money issue needs to be thought out. I think I won't really have to get out of the fastest path on each level for money, except on level 1 though.... - That helicopter level where I fly to get money, I'll just fall on the water as fast as possible next time. - in the blue castle, there's a flame I have to wait, I guess I'll do like the speedrun and buy an invincibility power up... or not, I'll have to test and see if it's worth it.

Nice start. Have you tested if its slower or faster to jump before a pit?

Alex gets a LOT more acceleration on the ground, and jumps higher from a running start too.

Download the emulator linked on this page, open the game rom, and play the movie file.

First of all, I did the speedrun of AK:IMW on SDA so I also put quite some time in this game, but from a different (console) view (obviously). I really liked your test run, well done. I really liked the part with the lightning clouds and also the trick in the first castle where you go in between a few flames. Nice job in finding these tricks. Like you mentioned, some things can be done faster. I'll give some concrete feedback later on! Too bad the emulator runs faster then the speed I played the game in so it's hard to see the difference between the TAS and my time. It would be a damn big difference though :D.

It runs very different, yes, your run ran at a noticeably slower speed, even the music was much slower than I'm used to, which caused a strange feeling. But it was damn impressive. Yeah, this run is very improvable still, and I've gained a suggestion to use the secret area inside the pot with the octopus because my source said that when exiting that secret area I'll be 2 levels ahead, skipping one level completely. Haven't tested that yet. Also, the money collecting was also rather bad. Humm, on rewatching the run I thought it will be worth a shot to try the "slide to the left side of the screen" glitch on the other screens/castles too. edit: couldn't find anything about that. Any more suggestions are appreciated and thanks on the comments :)

I don't know about any glitches, so I can't give any comments on that. I'd rather like to see a non-glitch run though (and slam that 16 minute border on PAL speed), but that's my personal opinion. Some feedback points: - The octopus route is much slower then the normal route. I also tried it when i ran the game. - The money collecting can have some better planning. Liked your first level though! - Map 4: At the end of this level (after the long text) Alex doesn't have to pick up the helicopter. He will have it anyway in the next map (also: see my speedrun). - Map 5: Fall in the water earlier. - Blue castle: : in the room after the 3 moving ground flames you can go a bit faster by pressing right while falling down near the end of the room (pretty hard to describe but see for yourself). - Blue Castle: get past the flames at the end with invisibility powder, buy this in an earlier shop, eventually should be faster I think. (You also mentioned this) Jankens castle: pretty early in this level there are 2 flames and a scorpion. It’s possible to go faster here. (See SDA video) These are the points I can come up with. The rest of the run seemed strong. Hope it helps you to get a better time.

Nice, thanks for comments, I'll surely pay attention to those! I'd use any glitch that helps speeding up the run, but I couldn't find any so far... If you make a rough conversion of the time to PAL timing, this testrun would be 16:32.2 minutes long, so a 16 minutes run seems possible.

I don't have a computer at home (or free time at all), so I won't really be capable of tasing this game. If anyone wants to do it, I'd be glad to watch and comment on wips. The biggest thing that needs attention now is to decide where to get the money (and how much). The invincibility item seems like a good buy so you can pass the flames in the blue castle. edit: If nobody wants to do it, I guess I can try to work on it 30 minutes everyday or something like that.

Explanation of the screen scroll warp glitch (how to do it was not discovered by me, I read about it on some website). On the last castle, right at the entrance, if you run and duck just before hitting the left side of the screen, you'll find that it's missing the lower invisible block, so Alex starts to "get in" the left side of the screen, until it scrolls. This causes the game to bug a bit, basically you stay on the same screen, but the enemies and items have shifted 1 screen. You can keep doing this and they shift 2 screens, 3 screens etc, until you can have the enemies from the last screen on the first screen, and then the enemies from the next "level". If you do it again it will reset the game, if I remember well. This would be useful to get to the screen with the princess, but I couldn't get it to work because of the way the last castle is modeled.. The princess is on an upper floor, and you can only make it loop to the same or lower floors. Something like that. Here is a test movie, and the map of the last level (janken's castle). http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/34750257/alexkiddmw-foda-v13.mmv http://www.alex-kidd.com/miracleworld/maps.php The glitch is only possible on the last level, as much as I've tried to make it work on the other ones, there's no open block on the left side of the screen on these other levels...

ok, I've completely broken the game. I don't think a game has ever been broken so badly... Here are a few screenshots:

I guess you don't need to know if you're using glitch warping but anyways: At Janken's castle most left side, the screen with water and spikes. You cannot die to the spikes that are above your head while you are under water and swimming straight forward. If you stop, you'll die instantly (If I remember correctly). Trying to stay between the spikes by keeping the height steady is way more difficult, but not a problem in case of tas. ;) I remember when I found this bug. After that this castle seemed to be way easy. :P BTW, I'd like to see glitch-warpless run of this game also. ;)

Okay, I never really got past the 2nd level in this game but I still want to see a run. Besides, seeing a game get broken almost more than Sonic 3 and Knuckles is always a good thing.

Sure, but I'd like to see glitchless run too. :)

The testrun is pretty messed up as it is, if I remember correctly.

Well, I don't guarantee that any of these will be on the TAS, they most likely won't, except for the last one. I just posted them because they were really messed up, and someone may see something I didn't :)
