Tricks & Glitches

Mario's Jump Attack (special) :The more he uses his special attack "Jump", the stronger it becomes (the limit +85, as I recall.)
Untimed Defense :Not timing defense saves a few frames, but it doesn't always work.
Skip a Terrapin's Attack (Thanks spezzafer) :Move the cursor and kill a different Terrapin. Mario isn't attacked this way.
Mack skip (Thanks Hakusekirei & ITK) :Jump on one of the bodyguards and you can skip Mack's battle.
Skip Heavy Troopa(Thanks Spezzfer) :In Nimbus Land, you can skip Heavy Troopa twice.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also corrected the ROM name.
  • You indicated Super Mario RPG (U).smc
  • I updated it to Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars (U) [!].smc

adelikat: Accepted as an improvement to the published movie.
DeHackEd: Sure, I'll encode it. But since it's a huge file and out of necessity I'm giving it to my laptop, please be patient.

Great run, especially for a first submission. Did you plan on making another run? It seems like you were going to by the way you were talking in the SMRPG thread. The only things I see as improvable is that you did not fight booster, and I think you over leveled your characters. Rock candy kinda eliminates the need to ever level up. The time spent playing the yoshi game and on the level up screens is pretty staggering. Using the lucky jewel also wastes a turn in many of the battles. voting yes.
They're off to find the hero of the day...

I don't see why you don't use odd-number boost for mine trolley after all. (これのことですよ~) Sloppy Demo SMV Anyway, I liked the whole run. Voting yes, good job.

I can't wait to see this run. For the record, it takes 250 uses of Jump to max out its power (+125 damage when Jump is not timed, Mario doesn't have any positive or negative status boosts/ailments, and the enemy isn't weak to jump attacks).

Quoted for agreement. I don't agree, however, about being overleveled. If he'd done what you (kind of) suggested and kept leveling to a minimum, almost every battle would have been him spamming Rock Candy (or other Bomb items), which, although (probably) faster, would have seriously hurt the entertainment value, IMO. As for fighting Booster, he probably didn't because he needed the Amulet you get for successful avoidance.

Hmm, NesVideoAgent apparently likes Ice Bombs & blank text boxes. Cold... no text appearing... Freeze.... Hey! It likes glitches! Wow, it does belong on this site! (Okay, I tried a little too hard on that one.) Anyways, I quite enjoyed this movie. You seemed to be a little obsessed with Top Mario (especially in the curtain game)

UM, the avi file does not contain most scenes NVA took pictures of o_O and there was a shit load of stuff skipped. Is it linking to a "glitched" or "warped" version of the run by mistake? the avi goes for the same time and is done by the same person, but he never "meets" bowser or princess and never goes on booster pass or on nimbus or the nimbus bus..... edit: okay, the video player i was using DIDNT buffer the video properly thus bits where skipped :P time to watch AGAIN ';..;'

Very nice TAS. This is probably my favorite game ever, so watching it pushed to its limits was a real treat. The platform areas were fun to watch. I especially liked the glitch used to jump off the boo onto a higher ledge in Kero sewers. I also never knew you could skip Mack. It was also interesting to see most of the bosses beaten so easily and fast just by using a item I once thought was useless. Good job. The thing I didn't get though was using power blast in some fights even though a physical attack was never used.

It also jacks up the damage of the item tosses. Rock Candy would deal 200 damage, but it deals 300 because of the Power Blast.
