Some quick tests: Thumper Twister Mr. Slam These aren't fully tool-assisted because I'm not sure how to do the freeze move (left, right,up) in frame advance. Thumper probably has the most powerful special, but it takes a while to recharge. Twister's special recharges very quickly. Mr. Slam is good for ramming other cars, which will become important in some of the later levels.

This game would probably make the best TAS ever. The Thumper video was awesome. I can't even make the freeze move in real time. :/ That's probably because I have a beta version or something (I lost my original disc some years ago). This will be the first game I'll try to TAS if we ever get a decent PS emulator... I hope you can make more videos of TM2. I'd love to see a full test run too, even if it kind of sucks.
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

Honestly, I didn't see anything special or out of ordinary. I hate this game anyway... tool-assisted or not, it has bad graphics, boring music etc... So I guess I'm not the best person to judge it.

Try hitting left and right quickly, then delaying a moment and hitting up. Here's a play around with Thumper in Antarctica.

Bad graphics?! Back then, when it first came out, it was by far the best looking game. The Paris map was astounding: I guess it may seem boring if you've only played alone this game, but if you've ever played with a friend, this may be the most entertaining game on the PS. I can't count the times I've played the New York map with my friends.

Ah, I was finally able to do it only once; thanks. I didn't remember it was that hard to do... The video in Antarctica was great, I loved the ending. :P

Graphically, the game really has not aged well. But I have a lot of fond multiplayer memories attached to that game, which helps it save some face. I'd certainly like to see more. :o

Dead, huh? Well, my suggestion for this run is that you manipulate the enemies to hit each other, instead of singling them out and emptying your weapons on them. They only attack you, and if they are beyond a certain range, they don't take damage, but they can hurt each other.

The fastest way to kill enemies is to get them to bunch together and then use a remote in the middle of them (while you use the shield). It might also be better to have a character who can hit multiple enemies at once with their special, like Axel. There are two remotes right next to each other on the first stage. I'd say if you got everything to go right, you could beat LA in 60 seconds.

Good AI manipulation has the potential to save a lot of time. I think knowledge of the code would be required to take full advantage though.

Haven't played for a while, but I think the enemies had different "personalities." For example, some will go right after you, while others will avoid you unless you are already engaged with another enemy. So luck manipulating to have the more aggressive enemies is a small step towards the cluster strategy. I also remember there being cheat codes for more powerful machine guns and "hot" napalm.

Oh, sorry... I didn't remember the cardboard eiffel tower. Yeah, by the time that game was released, the Playstation was a useless piece of crap and I was playing N64. About entertainment, I know it came out 1 year later but I believe you have never played RUNABOUT...

I've been playing this game a ton lately, as I'm working on a speed run for SDA. My best time so far is 23:43 with Thumper. That's not counting any loading, just the 8 stage times combined. During one unsuccessful run, I had a Moscow stage time of 51 seconds which was pretty incredible. I had 3 remotes, and I blew up four enemies at once. That's the kind of crazy stuff you'd need for a TAS.

Only problem I ever had playing this game was the fact that weapon pickups are so few an far between. Take into account the fact that every pickup (from what I recall anyway) only gives you one shot an that leads to some craptastic map starts. You'll wind up spending a ton of time in the beginning grabbing the items you'll need before you even get to do some nasty destruction. Best bet would be to use the ice/ram/special combo or something similar. Too bad you can't do this with homing napalm, now that was always a blast :)

I'm a strong advocate of Sweet Tooth, partly because of what honorableJay said. I never had much patience for weapon pickups, and Sweet Tooth's special recharges pretty fast and does decent damage. His ram damage is decent, too.

Upon further thinking, I think Shadow might be the best car for a TAS. His special is like a remote (damages multiple cars), and if you do it in the exact right location it does a ton of damage.

That's actually not a bad idea. Hold onto a remote bomb for the bosses, an do the minion special, remote bomb and shadow's special an you'll probably take out about 70-90% of your target's life (funny combo on normal cars too) along with possibly sending the car airborne

I don't know if you already knew this, but I couldn't tell or not by your Youtube videos. There are two more button combos that I didn't see you use... Minion Special Weapon: (while holding machine gun button) press Up, Down, Up, Up Mega Machine Guns (Just have to activate this once for the whole game): (while holding machine gun button) press Up, Down, Left, Right, Right, Left, Down, Up

Also, for the Antarctica level and New York levels, you may want to look into manipulating enemies into killing themselves, or somehow getting a quick instant death by having them fall. In both levels, you could Ricochet bomb someone off an edge. In Antarctica, you could 'lure' a foe onto a platform that is about to fall, and then freeze him/her there and watch them plummet into the water.

I'm gonna assume he didn't use the minion special because it uses up about 90% of the special meter to do. as for the mega machine guns, since that's considered a cheat code it wouldn't be allowed for anything that is going to be published (same with the homing napalm, etc etc). just as a joke though it would be funny to see him do the sell your soul right before ramming Dark Tooth for the win :)

This game should make an incredible TAS, was such a great PS game. You can probably beat each stage with like 6 seconds per car between turbo raming, and land mine stacking.

I must echo the jupi in this, the graphics are below par, but its strengths were always in its gameplay, less in its graphics. A theme which has vanished from gaming of late. /muse Back to the topic on hand, the videos are technically sound but lack the entertainment factor, and this is from someone with knowledge of the game.

I am not extremely familiar with the game so any advice to create an optimal run per level would be amazing. Here is a WIP. Please tell me anything I have missed or should get to make the overall run faster. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiE6a-AkgIs&feature=youtu.be If you have locations of remotes and other weapons I should get or be using don't hesitate to tell me. I would hate to create a run, and then missing basic pickups, features, or strategies. I am going to try Axel since he can kill things even without pickups, and has an AOE special. Getting pickups is expensive. Shadow has great anti-group potential, but his is bad at individual guys compared to Axel. Thumber is great at killing individual guys but has no AOE. Spikestuff already mentioned about looking at analogue so that is on the list.

Huh, I expected more from this game. Alright, I have two questions on the basics. 1. Is there a particular reason you keep adjusting your angle on the way rather than immediately? 2. Is there a way to manipulate the enemies to converge on your location sooner so you can, say, kill two at a time (even if it takes slightly longer to engage them)?
