Well, here's an improvement to the Sliding Hell, also known as Quackshot.
Improvements:
  • Sliding on slopes: I guess it's some sort of bug that allows me to go from sliding to standing while maintaining sliding speed on slopes. It's *incredibly* useful and makes the run go a lot smoother (not to mention quicker).
  • Enemies: Many enemies I now shoot and slide through, rather than jump over. Less air time means more sliding time.
  • Climbing: I use plungers to climb more effectively. I also use them to extend a platform a little further out at times.
  • Tiger palace: Modified route (thanks, Truncated). I could have sworn that right doorway lead back to the beginning...
  • Popcorn and Bubblegum: Not just for bosses anymore! I actually pull out a shot or three of the stuff in various areas.
  • Egyptian "boss" (right before I get the scepter of Ra): Don't ask me how it works, all I know is it does. I think I try to jump while turning around in a slide, and I don't jump but the game thinks I do anyway and hits the switch (those switches are stupid. You have to jump while on them to push them down).
  • Minecarts: This one's just crazy. I can give a more in-depth explanation if you like.
As well as a couple other things that are either not really noticable or not really worth mentioning.
Things which look like mistakes but aren't:
  • Missed shots: Shooting while in the air modifies my hitbox just a tiny bit; I abuse this to get over a variety of things.
General Mayhem:
  • Mexico: As I'm waiting, I demonstrate a rather neat bug on the moving platforms, over, and over, and over again.
  • Final Dungeon: So I'm messing around as I'm waiting for the circle of fire... Well, you'll see it. I dunno why I don't get hit, I just don't. Too bad it's not *useful* for anything.
  • Sliding pauses: For whatever reason the game will occassionally stop my slide when I hit a platform. This is especially noticable in the room before the final boss.
It likely is possible to improve, but not by more than a few frames in any one place. Frankly, I don't want to touch this game ever again.
Oh, right, various mandatory information:
No warps in the game
No unnecessary items to be had
Takes no damage
Abuses various glitches

Bisqwit: Processing this movie now.
It seems to be slightly better than the previous version :)

Yes It's a lot better than the one already on the site, and over a minute and a half faster.

Will watch as soon as possible. I assume you also slide trough the green boxes now, even though you didn't list it?

Why did you walk from the flag into the mexico castle? Wouldn't it have been faster to slide? Before scepter, you did the fast switch thing only on the two later blocks. Isn't it possible to do it on the first one too? I remember there was something else I thought of, but I've forgotten and I can't check at the moment. Quite possibly something with the flags. I loved the slides up and down the hills (how the heck does that work anyway?) and the minecart levels. The tiger boss was also sort of cool. As was sliding all across the disappearing blocks. All in all it's an obvious YES. ---- Sidenote: I wonder why this movie got past the queue. There are plenty of Genesis movies submitted before this one. Bisqwit?

Mexico door: I have to wait until the plane leaves before I can access the start menu. With the flags, I similarly have to wait until I can access the start menu, but it's a much shorter wait, only a second or so. Scepter thing: Near as I can tell, it's only possible to do it if I'm turning around in my slide. I might be able to "wobble" it, but I don't particularly want to touch this game for a while. Sliding: I haven't quite figured out how it works, myself, all I know is that if I keep trying to slide on the slope, Donald will stand up and I can keep going at sliding speed. Sidenote: This thing gets past the queue because it's an improvement to the already published version.

Because of two reasons. 1. It's an improvement to an existing movie. It does not have to be judged as carefully as the other movies. 2. Because there is no such thing as "queue". Submissions are not processed in order of time, but in order of interest, which is a personal thing to each movie manager.

Nifboy: That explains the flag issues. I wondered if you really could have made another miss with running/sliding, since I nagged you about it the last time. :) Having played this game a lot on a real console, the slide up the slope was a clear "WTF?!". That never ever happened to me. Bisqwit: I understand that improvment videos can be judged easier than others, but it's a bit discouraging to learn that anything I produce can be stuck in limbo state in submissions forever, because noone feels like looking at it...

True. That's where the voting system appears to be handy. For me, it's more encouraging to go processing movies that have received a good reception amongst the voters. Processing (and reviewing) those movies takes some time and if I've never ever heard about the game, it isn't very interesting. For games I know well, I'm happy to review the movie because I know I can give some constructive feedback.

Hmm I've watched this a while ago and just registered to tell the movie maker that he skipped a huge shortcut on egiptian piramid after you get to the first ladder and before going left, you can start climbing the right wall and go through the ceiling to the next level of the dungeon :P I just thought it could improve over 1 minute of the movie time if you knew about this and still didn't want to use that shortcut, I'm sorry I couldn't tell ;P

Um, I do use that shortcut. You sure you weren't watching the SDA run instead?

erm, ok now you got me, I'll watch this submission again if I was watching the SDA movie instead, which is highly possible as I'm also a huge fan of SDA and quake 1 ;P, I'm sorry :P Edit: yeah, I've just watched it... and you really use the shortcut.. the SDA guy is very slow... I can do better than him but I'm lazy :o anyway, I'm sorry and nice movie.. I love this game

That's good to hear, I have wanted to see an improvement to this for a long time. Let me if you want an extra eye for finding more timesavers.
