- HARD level of difficulty
- entertainment!
- no damage
- aims for fastest time
Even though it looks like i chose normal mode, it was played on hard. It's because i pressed start right before you could see mickey spinning the difficulty sign.
Some tricks happen here, i hope you like it!

Bisqwit: Why is this movie slower than the other submission for the same game? Is it because the other movie is played on easy mode?
Bisqwit: Apparently yes. The author should have responded here instead of keeping the submission in a delayed ("waiting for answer from author") state.

nesrocks: sorry about that, i was traveling i was away from computer.

Bisqwit: This movie has received good votes, but it's not good enough. It's lacking accuracy. I'll await at least for the next version.
Bisqwit: Reopening this submission for second evaluation because of requests.

Bisqwit: Processing this movie now.
I still don't like it, but I think less people will complain if I publish it than if I reject it.
When I talked about accuracy, I was referring to the woodblock monster in the forest - you didn't seem to hit it at first possible instant.
But what really bothers me is that the movie doesn't look impressive. I don't see that there was any challenge in making of this movie.

nesrocks: yes i DO hit him on the earliest frame possible. even though he is standing already, he isn't on "ready to recieve damage" state.
This movie is as impressive as this game allows. You won't see a better run on it.

Hi, this movie is much more entertaining and less boring than the other submission. I really can't understand why this is actually longer than the other movie. It seems to be played much faster with less waiting (especially in this level with that stream where the other player waits for it to slow down). If you ask me: Publish this movie. While it may be slower, it's much less boring to watch and possibly the slowness has its reason in the different versions of the game (US vs Japan). Philip

Yes. Bosses have more health in hard: The first boss takes 5 hits on normal, 10 on hard.

i liked this run. i remember this game damn well and all the hours i spent on this and its sega master system counter-part. this is a great relaxer movie ^^. only thin though, all the jumping gets annoying after awhile, but you can deal with it.

Hello everybody. I am the author of the first CoI Run, the one played on normal mode. I'm glad there's a new and better run avaliable, and would like to expose some points why my run looks boring (that's of course the reason it was replaced!): First off, this was my FIRST RUN EVER! Somewhy I never managed to make rerecords to work correctly on my Famtasia (maybe I'm a bit lazy to try to solve the question, but oh well) so when I tried it on Gens and noticed it worked, it got very exciting how it would be to create one of what had entertained me and thousands of people all around to watch. Second, I did played it in a simplist, and now for what I can see from viewers' comments, boring way. For two main reasons: First, I was primarily concerned on speed and time-saving, and since I had few practics into doing so many mirabolant moves, that could had unfavored the excitement of the viewer. Second, I chose my own style of play: doing just and only the extreme necessary moves to accomplish the game. I always wondered how could a "utopic-perfect-machine" handle a program (game) given a certain guideline (finish by the most fast way possible), it surely would look pretty impressive, yet boring sometimes. My problem is that I tend to be strictly cold and technical, and not much creative. I'm really sad this play style of mine would ever mean boringness. Maybe I shall review my game concepts, afterall this is art, not sci-fi =) Third and last, unfortunately I surely am far far away from the levels of avaliable free time most timeattackers have to deal with our games. I can't imagine myself spending my (little) free time all in front of a PC in order to achieve so great feats you all are used to watch. I primarily did this TA most for fun, since CoI was my first ever Genesis game I played, so I found it rather nostalgic for a startup. I confess I got a little sad by the critics I could see popping up at the site... not by the replacement of my run by foda's one, this is natural and positive, entertainment is what matters, if someone managed to improve a given run, great deal for everyone. foda's run is really impressive and I really wanted it to be published. Well that's all folks :P I hope I didn't bothered with my rather long points, I just needed to say that stuff. []'s Zakatos

well, zakatos... if i am not mistaken, my run was made BEFORE yours.. it was being discussed on the sega genesis forums. i just took more than a month (maybe 2 months) to submit it, cause i got some things to do. i was making an ecco the dolphin run when i stopped with timeattacking. i will continue it again now. i wanna watch your run. maybe you did something faster than me. like they said, your game was played on normal mode that means the bosses have less energy. i think it's very hard to improve my run, especially because i do some very very hard jumps.

I liked this video. I noticed a few areas which I thought were inaccurate (although there are probably explanations). For example, at the end of the toy boss, mickey doesn't reach the emerald at the peak of his jump from the spring, which would be slightly faster. Also, why do you not jump onto the small platform after the 2nd rolling ball in the dungeon level from the left hand side? I noticed some other stuff too which I forgot... However, I really don't care. The movie looks very impressive and is entertaining to watch. I don't agree with the quest for absolute perfection (although I can understand it). As long as something is produced to 99.9% efficiency, there's no harm in posting it IMO.

yea, i'm very glad you enjoyed the video!!! that's what keeps me making the videos! about the issues: yea jumping a frame later could fix it, but it would be really 1 frame only, because the diamond hits mickey after he went down 1 pixel. about the jumping through the right side of the plataform, it wouldnt make a difference, as i had to wait for the armored man to throw the spiked ball. By going through the right side i stepped on the spiked ball in a hurry, which is harder than going through the left and waiting for him to throw it, or trying to jump on the other plataform on the upper left. i'm currently working on a video for this game, if its alright with bisqwit, i want to start seeding it after i'm done. i tried xvid it 100 mb looked horrid... i'll have to raise the quality, but i'll be hosting it, so i dont care :)

Why did you: Not use the vines to cross the gaps in the 2nd level of the forest? Land away from the slope on some and near the slope on others after getting the key, while running down the toy level? Not exploit randomness in the toy zone boss and make it only jump once each time (or could you not find a way?) You seemed a bit slow on one part of the final boss, it was at the side and you jumped on to her head from the platform. When you landed after killing the final boss you had to walk a little bit to the side, you could have lined that up better, or am I wrong.

1 - because the timing didnt help, i would have to wait for them to come to the left and then to the right 2 - i jumped to have 100% vertical speed after reaching the end of each slope. i did all of them the same way, you saying some are different?? 3 - it never ocurred me to manipulate that, but i dont think its possible, he must have a set number of jumps each hit he takes 4 - thats because if i falled on her head the ghosts would damage me, the timing was not the best on that part.. i admit this could be corrected by starting the jumps on top of mizrabel's ghosts on a different moment. but it was not easy to do without frame count 5 - i ended the movie recording just before hitting the witch, that walking left is automatically done by the ending sequence

Sorry for the delay in responding to this. 1 - No, this is not true. The vines go in time, you can jump from one to the next without touching the ground, like in the library. I was following them as you moved across the level and you could have made it to the end quicker. 2. Well I just watched the movie again and you do it differently on the first couple of jumps, however this seems to be to avoid the blocks. But I am confused as to why you jump so early off the ramps? Why not keep running down and do a smaller jump when you are closer to the bottom? 3. OK 4. I think I was wrong here, that particular jump doesn't seem slower. 5. I know the walking left to a certain point is automatically done. However if you moved slightly over to the left in the first place (before falling down to the bottom), wouldn't the game not make mickey move over as much or at all? Extra: 6. Was it not possible to jump further over to the swinging light cables in the library, rather than waiting to the right?

1 - watch the first vine. i almost touch it. but i couldnt because, unluckly, the game is just like that. i cant touch the vine on its first swing to the right. i'd have to wait it go, and then come back, and then go again. see it? now watch closely and imagine mickey going on the NEXT swing (not the first swing, because that one is impossible) and see if it would be faster. it wouldnt.. 6 - yea that was a sad part because no its not possible... especially because of the falling books bellow which slowed me down, again not enabling me to get a swinging rope due to timing. on normal mode there are no books, so i believe its possible to get a faster candle ride there, but not on hard mode (maaaaybe if i take damage on purpose...) thanx for your interest :)

Quick replies all the time - I wait ages to respond, and you reply within hours - you must check this forum quite often! 1. Yes you are right - I seem to remember making the first one when I was younger, but obviously it was a false memory! 6. What do you mean, what falling books?

on the way below, going from left to right, there are falling books on the hard mode. they slow me down, if there were no books i'd get up there eariler, allowing me to jump on the light candle
