Please, unless there's a major, noticeable and short time advantage, disabling the sounds or music in a game should not be allowed. This is the sort of thing that ruins even RTAs. And Crash 3's SFX/music is awesome.

Just to clarify, the music would stay on. Only the SFX would be turned off. No SFX would actually allow you to hear the awesome music rather than it being drowned out like in the N. Gin boss.

Since the TAS is going to be 30+ minutes anyway, I'd vote for keeping SFX on and sucking up to the timeloss. I find the SFX in this game really helps with the entertainment, even if it drowns the music.

Well, some things happened... Link to video I am assuming the gate clip isn't a thing apart from the third world gate, and that you can't do the gate clip the other way around (and it's most likely the case). I got crystals with IDs #221 to #224 at the cost of 1120 frames (~18,7s) and it "may" allow to defeat Tiny 1 wave earlier (~21s per wave) depending on how many jumps I can get per wave. If it isn't the case, I will have to redo everything from the bonus round... (except if I can hex edit the movie by cutting those 1120 frames, but I don't expect much from it)

Very impressive WIP its great so see someone working on this. The movement looks well optimised so far. It's interesting to see this done with the earlier boxes used for jumps, but it looks like it turned out much faster. I would agree that getting the rest of the crystals from Tiny is probably faster than Gee wiz but you should definitely time both. The gate clip is annoying. I spent A LOT of time trying to replicate it. It was the reason I stopped working on this category and shifted to no major skips. I think if it were possible it would be possible on every gate but I have a hunch that it doesn't work on Bizhawk. I'd also suggest turning the SFX off since this is the pure any% category which is fast at all costs, but that choice is up to you. If you do leave it on, make sure you get the glitch exiting the N. Tropy fight. I noticed that you enter the warp room at frame 3161, but it's possible to enter at 3153. Perhaps there are some more frames you can save on the title screen?

I am pretty sure I didn't lose any time on the title screen, but the difference may come from a different BIOS (or maybe a different Bizhawk version, although I doubt it).

Two things: 1) Oh my gosh FINALLY someone is working on Crash 3! 2) Aw it's any% that's a bummer. But regardless, keep it up.

I did some science for the RTA community recently about how long you have to jump out of a slide off a ledge. It's about 16 frames (NTSC) after you leave the ledge when you can jump regardless of when you slide. If you slide late, because you cover less horizontal distance in those 16 frames, there's an optical illusion of crash falling down really fast and not being able to jump.
