Nice that you you liked it,duude! And I agree with you in one thing: That I could have played around a little bit more with death. "I've also noticed that woman throwing boneheads can be manipulated to throw them more." Really? Can you please tell me how?

Diman, please don't resize/bold/color your text. It's much more pleasant to read it when it's just normal.

that's not the way to go, voting is not a favor, it should be based on the movie.

Yeah man, dont vote for my movies because I voted for yours...Base it on entertainment, not the player, like I did for this submission.

I found this to be fairly unimpressive. I would blame the game, though; you did the best you could with such a slow and uninspired game.

I hate that game... But no one is talking about the game! What we want are good runs, and this one is nice, so... voted YES! ...and... there are other games that are really worse than Popeye and got their runs published, so, it's not your fault

Thanx! Yeah, I agree with with you 2 guys that the game isn't really special or fun...But I also agree with you, that I did everything I could to make the game LOOK interesting! And its really fun when some people agree with me at some points.

Watching Popeye die and fall in the water is more entertaining than watching the movie beat the game.

Yeah, Guybrush, I know that. I'm trying to fix the TAS as fast as I can. I'm trying to make the TAS perfect. And when I say 'perfect' I really mean it. I'm posting WIPs as soon as I'm done with one. And then I'm waiting for feedback from the comments I watch on the forum. You can join the discussion if you like: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3662&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20

To the Judges: personally, i feel that this should be at least accepted. it has been in que for a bit and most of the "no" votes are because of the game, and not because of the gamePlay that Diman had produced. Yet, most of the yes votes are for the gameplay, and not for the game. Since the site is "TASVideos", and this is a bery nice TAS of this game, i think there should be a video for this.

I think a "no" vote because the game is not suited for an entertaining movie is a valid reason. (I haven't watched this run or voted) That's so strange that Vatchern and I have differing opinions. Edit: Vatchern, Fabian just pointed out that you have expressed that certain movies should not be published because you don't like the game (in particular, hacked games). That's the same opinion that some have expressed here about this game. Why should their opinion and votes be ignored in this case?

If we should allow bad, boring, unentertaining games, we should allow Front Line. (And hacks are not always bad -- people who vote No based on the fact it's a hack and soley for that reason need to be more objective, and not auto-reject something just because it has the word "hack" in there. Some hacks exceed the quality of official video games!)

Amen to that! I really agree with you Vatchern. And its cool with at least one on my side-thanks to that! And I think its really sad that people voting "no" because the game is bad. Two good examples for this is, Phil's NES Donkey Kong in 01:18 and, Ferret Warlord's NES Donkey Kong Jr. in 01:13. They both play their games fantastic but is their choices of games good? Personally, I watch their movies cause the gameplay and not for their games. Think of that please before you vote. ; )

But at least those games have some sense when aiming for the fastest time. In Popeye, you just wait until Olive has thrown all of her thingies and run back and forth while she does.

"In Popeye, you just wait until Olive has thrown all his thingies" Thats why I'm foolin' around in the game. Punch Bluto, use glitches, punching skulls and "tease" the skulls-everything to make the movie less boring. But I respect your opinion, cause I can understand its strenuous for people to see a TAS of a game they absolutely don't like.

Awesome! Is there someone else who think this game should be accepted? ; )

That is a perfectly valid reason for voting no. Like the Guidelines say to pick an interesting game. Not all games will be represented; only the ones that are deemed entertaining. Showing the fastest completion of all video games is NOT the aim of this site.

Just because a game has poor graphics or is very primitive in gameplay doesn't make it a bad game. The Donkey Kong games do offer something interesting in aspects such as luck manipulation. At least there is some interesting strategy involved that makes the TAS unexpected and/or novel. These are the qualities make games publishable. Popeye doesn't offer these elements. It can't even aim for a fastest completion. It is just a 3 minute playaround of a rather dull game. Playing with death and showing off cool stuff HELP make a TAS better, but they aren't enough to stand alone as the sole value of the run. There needs to be SOMETHING else involved. Voting No. It seems like you put some effort into this game but I think this game is a lost cause. Unfortunately I don't think anything can be done to showoff something interesting in this game. I know putting hard work into something only to be rejected must be tough. I am sorry for this. Honestly, I think your insistance of TASing this game is due to your lack of confidence in making a good TAS of a more difficult game. This is unfortunate. You have submitted many TASes to this site and this point, I believe you are capable of attempting more difficult (and interesting) games. Rather than focusing on quantity, focus on quality. This game takes little time to TAS since there is no aiming for fastest time or difficult stunts. This is a lazy reason for picking a game, and it will invetibably show in your work. Plan on a run taking many months to perfect. Typically, a run that can be made in an hour or two will not look very impressive (unless the game is unusually short, such as Monopoly). Pick a game that challenges you to explore and learn new tricks and pushes your own ablities to the limit. It will be hard work, but you will no doubt be far more proud of what you have accomplished. Since this run was submitted, I have seen you post wip's in the forum. This is good, and will allow you to get an idea of what games are good choices. Thus, all I have to say is good luck on your future TASes :)
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects
