https://github.com/CasualPokePlayer/dolphin/releases/tag/3986S Uses the "official" 3.0-389 as a base. The movie doesn't actually sync right away on here (since it was using no longer available fork). It can be made to sync with a very simple modification, simply remove the first 5 inputs with a hex editor (bytes 0x100 - 0x127). That along with setting the needed settings (no memcard, no dual core, no idle skipping, dsp lle) will have the movie sync fully.
It's also worth noting that this version of dolphin does not record video properly in windowed mode, only fullscreen. So to make a proper 4K+ dump, you either need a 4K+ monitor, or a workaround solution. Personally on Windows, the workaround of using a virtual monitor via IDD sample driver worked for me. Install as per instructions in the github release, set the virtual monitor to 100% scale and at the resolution you want, set it to the main display in Windows display settings, then boot up dolphin and start the dump. You can view the virtual monitor via OBS or similar, so you aren't just flying blind.

I've noticed separate, extended input files for encoding seem to be a relatively common thing nowadays. But the encoder guidelines only really say anything about post-credits secret messages as of yet, which is only really tangentially related. So considering just how seems to be allowed for in extended input, e.g. [4185] GC Super Smash Bros. Melee "Classic Mode" by Noxxa in 05:36.93, I'm curious if there's any reason not to use an extended input movie for an encode? Or is it basically just up to encoder discretion?

You're taking it out of context. To my understanding, feos was talking about the idea of patches being hosted on this very website, which would future-proof the patch, but could easily land the site a DMCA. Linking to an external download link is the lesser of two evils here

Hypothetical question... if a game were released on such and such PC platform without any TASability, how publishable would a run based off of a third-party recompilation of the game engine be? The case on my mind is OneShot (2016), which is only officially released for x86/x64 Windows Vista and x64 Linux, and has its engine open sourced under GPLv2. The game doesn't work in libTAS because of the popup prompts, nor in PCem+Windows because the game requires Vista at the earliest, nor in PCem+Linux because it doesn't support x64. However, it would be very possible to build the game for x86 Linux and then drop in all the necessary non-GPL assets from an official release. I haven't tested it myself just yet though. In my opinion this specific scenario is relatively unproblematic, but more broadly speaking it's an interesting question. What if the engine also requires some source code edits to make it TASable? What if the engine is not open source, and a mod of some sort makes it TASable? What of downporting it to an earlier OS, ex. Windows XP? Etc. etc.

For starters, if anyone more knowledgeable with Undertale than I can correct me on any information, please do. My understanding of the newer glitches comes from the submission notes and from talking to OceanBagel on the TASVideos discord. It's worth noting that the most distinguishing trick in this run, obtaining the punch card in Genocide, has apparently not yet been fully optimized and compared to the route used in the published Genocide TAS. As stated earlier in the thread, the difference is about 90 seconds with the proof-of-concept punch card route TAS, in favor of the published TAS. 90 seconds is a lot to make up, but feasibly could be. So hypothetically, this TAS could end up very similar to a future Genocide TAS, placing it in a similar situation to the Neutral ending submission with the same goal. I'm not too familiar with the recent changes to the site guidelines, so I'm not sure if this could be grounds for rejection or future obsoletion. It's just food for thought. As-is, this TAS is an incredible display of Undertale's glitchy mayhem, which is normally never seen to this extent in the relatively glitch-free Genocide route. And that on top of using a trick which has never been reproduced in RTA? Easy yes vote.

It's technically not disallowed, mostly frowned upon. I'm not sure if there's been a run which was rejected for using passwords. Either way, it refers to passwords which skip some or all of the game, like Megaman, or NES Metroid. Wondermail is a bit different, though in the same vein. It doesn't skip any dungeons, but it does allow receiving any item very early. Imo it would be much more interesting and entertaining to see TMs manipulated for instead of received via passwords.

I'm sorry but I have bad news about the Frustration TM... 1) TASVideos guidelines discourage the use of passwords unless they can be used to unlock an harder difficulty setting or extra stages, so using Wondermail would probably make the run being rejected; 2) The earliest dungeon in which Frustration TM can be found is Mt. Thunder; 3) Missions that give Frustration TM as reward can appear only after finishing Mt. Thunder; 4) I don't know if Frustration TM can be found in the Keckleon Shop in Pokémon Square before Skarmory fight, but I must note that costs 3000 Poké.
I already knew all this, and I'm sure likeanoob does too, possibly besides site rules. What's your point?

Not at level 10 Frustration does fixed 45 damage. Skarmory and Team Meanies are likely to be the only boss fights where any move but Frustration will be used

About the partner, I think Charmender is good, because of Leer that would stack with Machop's and Ember that would damage a lot Skarmory, Articuno, and Groudon (thanks to Drought).
I agree that Charmander is a possibility, because of Skarmory. Torchic learns Ember at level 10, making it basically unavailable that early, while Charmander learns it at level 7. Other than that, player/partner choice has little to no impact on boss fights.

Choose Totodile as player, and Torchic as partner. I don't have the math anymore, but I can explain my reasoning. Accounting for everything, including levels gained, amount of moves learned, length of the move names, and species name length, Machop and Totodile are the fastest player characters, with Totodile barely edging out Machop. Iirc, they both end at level 10. However, Machop/Totodile is a bad pick because of discrepancy in dialogue length, assuming English version. Accounting for dialogue, Torchic turns out to be the best partner pick, leaving Totodile available for the player slot. Eevee is a solid pick, but just barely worse than Totodile and Machop, by one level. About the RNG (context: likeanoob PM'd me), I don't have the input file immediately available, but I can get it to you at some point. How the RNG manip works is hard to explain without getting technical. Basically, the main RNG is a huge cycle, with a guaranteed next value. In order to make it more unpredictable, the game sometimes picks the number two times later in the cycle, rather than the next number. To be more specific, the RNG will advance twice if bit 1, 6, or 7 is 1. For example, given the value of address 0x020EA158 is 0x45, its representation in binary is 01000101. Bit 0 is the rightmost number, and bit 7 is the leftmost number. Bit 1 is 0, bit 6 is 1, and bit 7 is 0, thus the RNG is advanced twice. EDIT: Wait a sec, I know you! Aren't you the person who was considering speedrunning Zero Isle?

Oh, pardon me, I misread and thought you were saying 92% men in the work force, and I was going along with it assuming it was a random number you came up with. I am not so much arguing for or against the existance of a wage gap here as I am arguing against your refutation of it, which is needlessly tangential and superficially related. Please come up with evidence relevant to the point at hand, not whatever point you're trying to make about fatality rates. (Honestly, "needlessly tangential and superficially related" summarizes the course of this thread, I mean, how does this relate to the gaming industry again?)

Any time anyone complains about a wage gap, I thoroughly enjoy reminding them that men make up 92% of all workplace fatalities. If I wanted to apply wage gap logic, I could say that men are nearly 12 times more likely to die on the job performing the same work as a woman, but obviously that's ridiculous.
It would, but not for the reasons you think. You are ignoring the fact that the wages are averaged, therefore the sheer number of men in the work force has no effect on the results, with the exception of having a smaller sample size of women. But let's say you're right. In that case, there is definitely a wage gap, but instead it's women making far, far more than men. About tenfold.

Men suffer more job-related fatalities than women because men choose different, more labor-intensive, and more dangerous jobs than women. Similarly, the reason women make less than men ON AVERAGE is because they tend to choose different jobs than men. Source: http://www.bls.gov/news.release/cfoi.nr0.htm
Labor-intensive and dangerous jobs do not necessarily make more than other jobs. If you can prove that women choose to take lower-paying jobs (i.e. not denied them), then you have a point. But as of right now your "proof" only serves to distract from the point

So I recently made my first TAS ever, of the game Contra III: The Alien Wars. It is a pacifist TAS, the same as McBobX's is. Mine is slower than his but I wasn't optimizing it a lot since it was my first one. However, I want to encode it so I can upload it to Youtube myself but every time I try to encode it using the package given at the publication manual, the output is much lower quality than the .avi that I put in. Additionally, when I upload it to Youtube the quality drops even more. Can anyone help me out? I'm willing to share more information if it is needed.
What exactly are you doing with the encoding package? If you dumped the avi with a lossless codec and chose HD stream upon encoding, the quality should be nearly indiscernible from lossless More to the point though, why do you need to use the encoding package? It's intended to be used for publication-quality encodes, not custom encodes.

As far as low% is concerned, 13% now has 5 separate routes rather than 1, due to the discovery of an ammo overflow at Draygon. The 4 new routes get an extra PB tank in order to use a Crystal Flash in the Draygon fight, plus one of either Speedbooster, Ice, XRay, or a third PB tank. It's been proposed that two low% TASes be published, one being the fastest route w/overflow and the other being the overflow-less Charge-Speed, but it has been controversial, as the last few pages can attest to

That's... not the point.
TheMG2 wrote:

This is very subjective reason to not use missile overflow. If low%'s definition can be twisted to accommodate for not using overflow, then certainly any% can be twisted to use it. It just doesn't make sense And those interesting glitches don't get used because they don't save time. If this glitch doesn't save time, of course you shouldn't use it, but if it does then there have to be very good reasons not to, ex. it skips a large portion of the game EDIT: Oh, also, lots of interesting routes don't get used either. Just because a Charge-Speed route could be more interesting, doesn't mean it has to be used
