Though I have to say, I think that 1/1 should be used in a future glitch run, since most of the game would not have to deal with it, and it will help save a second or two.

This so-called 1/1ing is also used in NxCy's recent any% submission

Seriously, is puzzle bobble cursed forever?
People now know that a TAS of this game will probably get enough yes votes to be published. It's unlikely that this version is unbeatable, so maybe we'll see someone submit a faster version some time in the future.

Am I getting this right? A new user supports this run, but Nineko thinks people will think he made that account himself, so he cancels the submission. Where is the logic in that?

NxCy previously posted a wip of the first part of the first level using 1/1ing: With 1/1ing We now completed that same section of the first level without using it: Without 1/1ing The version without 1/1ing is 8 frames slower. (Note that in this particular part there aren't particularly interesting things that could be done while idling for the non-1/1 version.) Edit:

2) Using tools, the trick isn't hard to do - it's like faster text scrolling using the Japanese version of a game: it's faster, but it isn't a testament to the skill of the TASer.
NxCy could probably write an essay on why this isn't true. I'll only say, give it a try and see for yourself.

Opinions needed. It turned out that the fastest way to move forward in Yoshi's Island is alternating between pressing forward and backward every frame. This so-called 1/1ing is also used in NxCy's recent any% submission, and gives Yoshi an average speed of 788, instead of the regular optimum average speed of 760. This means 1/1ing saves about 1 frame every 27 frames of running. Shooting eggs when 1/1ing is possible. Using the tongue however isn't, and the speed needs to be lowered during this to 760. The tongue obviously has to be used in lots of occasions, but for instance it Spezzafer's wip, it was also often used when it didn't need to be used (1/1ing wasn't known at the time). This includes occasions where eggs are cought that were fired without a real purpose, when eggs are juggled during running or shield or enemies were swallowed and spit out randomly. These things made the run even more chaotic and entertaining than a 100% run already would have been... but were thought not to cost time. Now it turns out these do cost time. There are three options: (1) Don't include these things that aren't really needed. - Goals are very clear, and "as fast as possible" is completely true. - The run will be a bit less chaotic and probably a bit less entertaining. (2) Don't use 1/1ing. - This extra restriction is very arbitrary (although given that restriction, it will be "as fast as possible"). - The entertaining extra stuff will be included. - Wobbling the entire run might get annoying, which will be avoided. - This is the slowest option of the three. (3) Use 1/1ing and include the things that aren't strictly needed. - "As fast as possible" can't be claimed. - The entertaining stuff will be included. - The run will nearly be equally fast as option (1) (not more than a frame per tongue use). - Doing everything you can to make certain parts as fast as possible seems strange when frames are lost on purpose at other places. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All three options have their pros and cons... which is best?

Will you change your forum rank? If so, what will it be? Will Bisqbot stay at the site? Does the usage of ROMs to make a TAS go well with the commandment "You shall not steal."? Either way, drop by once in a while to let us know what's going on. I'm sure many are interested. I can't imagine you not being interested in changes or new TASes at the the site as well.

I just watched them side by side (which is always interesting). The movie you linked is indeed faster. Clear improvements can be seen on multiple occasions. I don't think that movie is perfect either though...

Yeah... and intro was way too long... I like audio commentaries... but they always seem to be done by people who don't seem to know much about the game... or in any case, not by the TASer him/herself. This is really a shame, as the TASer should be able to give some actual relevant and interesting information... and shouldn't have to resort to naming which music is enjoyable or not, or what other games there are in the series and what consoles they are on. A couple of things mentioned in the commentary are just not true... or give the wrong idea at the very least. These included:
Tool assisted speedrun: "Basically played on a computer, and uses programming errors"
(This is not what a tool assisted speedrun is)
Here is a glitch that you can do on a computer...
(It can at the very least also theoretically be done on a console)
Frame glitch that allows Samus to fire frame by frame
(Glitch?) ...And it's FCEU

adelikat, could you publish the full staff list, including moderators, and sticky it ? Shouldn't the "About" page of the site have it as well ?
The tab "Articles" starts at the tab "sites", where the link Users is located. Edit: this link is actually also at the "About" page, linked as a few thousand registered users.

I didn't realize you would be leaving this soon... and I still don't really have an idea. Are we talking about within days, weeks, months?

Also voted no, sorry. Completing the entire game with a single move might be the fastest... but it's not very entertaining.

Please read the submission instructions. How does this movie relate to the published movie?

B mode is way cooler than this, since it clears the whole board... plus better ending (dancing mario etc)!
God, the NES Tetris ending gives me nightmares. Mario's jump is weird, Luigi try to dance but fails. While I can understand Pit playing a violin and Link playing a flute, why Samus is playing a cello? Not to mention DK PUNCHING the tambourine (or something like that). BUt the worse thing is Bowser. Just look at his eyes. They're empty, soulless. And that grin. Oh, that grin. He looks like he's planning about how to kill you at your sleep. I still thinks GB version is the better one.
I agree with Alden... I don't know why this TAS is compared to the NES Tetris B TAS so much. It's the only TAS that doesn't have lots of tetrisses... I'd say it's the most different.

I also completed it, although I might have cheated a bit at the maze, where I just randomly clicked the links that I hadn't clicked before (which was quite effective).

I don't know why I try. Some people are set in their beliefs and won't change, which, isn't a bad thing, unless your beliefs are wrong of course.

Maybe you have answered this before, or some place else... sorry if so. After you quit all administrative tasks for the site, will you still visit the forums and irc regularly / once in a while / sporadically?

It's not like (something like) this hasn't happened before: Submitting a published movie also happened before.

If you make another movie, you should upload it here: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php You will get a download link, which you can post in the Mario 64 topic to get some feedback on the movie. I personally would recommend to learn TASing with an easier game and emulator, for instance a NES TAS with FCEU or SNES with Snes9x.

I don't mind... but please only youtube a version where the movie file mentions 1) that it's a Tool Assisted Speedrun, 2) TASvideos, 3) the author of the TAS. Also mention these in the description.

I think I have to trust Baxter (the Tetris master ;)) about the 7 line clears here and thus I'll probably vote meh on this.
I, instead, demand evidence of that. Because unless proven otherwise this is the fastest completion currently available and therefore should be accepted as such.
Well... I clearly stated what part of the run could be improved... I don't really see how this is any different from pointing out improvements at other runs. This was indeed the fastest completion currently available... but it was also the only completion available. At any rate... I don't want to be all talk... here's your proof.

Ok, this is the REAL Tetris version, at least for me. I'd prefer seeing this one obsoleting the NES one, but I'll abstain from voting this time.
Besides the quality being not nearly the same as the NES oneS, the goals aren't either...
