Thanks! And I'm really impressed that Mothrayas has gained Exotic category TAS twice (on the same year).

Seconded. Also, since the Funny TAS of the Year was retired, this category must be moved to "Retired Awards", on the Awards page.

Challenger, I hate to break it to you, but the Pokémon Yellow that won is a Mario game.
I forgot this. You are right, Nach. Thanks! Also this ACE run is a "Multiple games and variety in one movie" (the answer is easy: through that published "spoiler" screenshot.).

Just as I expected. Pokemon Yellow "ACE" will be gain this category, and gained. Congratulations MrWint not for one of best TASes of 2017, but for lots of "variety"! Also, glad to see that Rayman also won this category. Congratulations scrimpeh and got4n! Your hard, harder work on this great game resulted on my favorite PSX TAS of all time! After several years (actually 2012-2016), for the first time, a winner of this category isn't any mario game, but, 2 runs gained this category (even more impressive, like when Cave Story and Majora's Mask gained TAS of year, back on 2011).

Although I'm not a fan of Metal Slug series, I liked watching Metal Slug 3. This run is a lot of planning, intense action, and great soundtrack. So, congrats zk547.

I voted for Rayman and Pokemon. My explanation: Pokemon is easily one of best TASes that I watched during 2017. Several games and features programmed and implemented inside of a GB game! Also SpongeBob was my biggest surprise for me! Really great TAS, but... ...the TAS of Rayman was my favorite TAS from this year. Really was entertaining since the first time that I watched. It starts a bit slow, but changes after minutes. Rayman gain powers that helps to avoid much backtracking as well as zipping, optimizing, and gaining much speed through the stages. This game was one of best games that I played on the recent years. A difficult game that looks "normal" when watching this run.

Congratulations Challenger. This was a well deserved award. 1/3 of a second is very significant when it is an improvement upon one of the highest-regarded movies on the site.
And when it is an improvement upon a very very solid run to improve (also beating a 10-year old run, in this case).

Although my Castlevania run only improves roughly 1/3 second (a bit for me), I'm really impressed how the reception with Castlevania was great (compared for the previous run, which hasn't gained before). Thanks for all, guys! ;)

Congratulations Mothrayas, and "Mothrayas". You really did a great work with these consoles (exotic) again. Final Zone II and Chip Chan Kick were very nice to watch!

I meant the grappling over the spikes part, which is slower then the original since I coulnd't fix the positioning after getting the scond barrier skip.
I managed to recreate the elevator skip (although the position is slightly different than the published run) and that spike path (I don't know why, but was able to get inside the spikes only once). How were the training scenes skipped? I had no idea that was even possible, and it isn't explained anywhere.
According from previous submission (Cheesestringxx's rejected movie): "As per the instruction manual it's possible to skip training by pushing the D button in any direction and button 1 or 2 when the description comes up on screen"

Nice, but with that method the shot from the guy in the next room (that we need to skip the second barrier) is much, much slower, so that's definitely not an improvement over all. I currently don't see any way to get both the quick elevator and the quick bullet. If you can improve the second transition after the second barrier though that would be a definite improvement.
The glitch used on the elevator (after the first barrier) doesn't work on the other elevator (after the second barrier). About the bullet: I haven't considered this before. But I don't know if that guy can be manipulated or not.

Challenger: did those videos come directly from the video dumps? You can probably just put them both together in movie maker or something so you dont have two videos for it.
I did these good encodes through these instructions: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16971 But I posted on 2 parts because the credits (and the epilogue) breaks the 15-minute limit on youtube.
Alyosha wrote:
@Challenger: thanks for the temp! sorry I messed it up now but at least it's only the last 2 minutes!
No worries. Since the only improvement is from the last area, I can replace the part 2 video. But before...
Alyosha wrote:
@Aglar: yes both transition areas after the barriers are different (and slower) then the oriignal. I was completely unable to recreate the strats nElifox used there, I think due to different positioning and scrolling at those points. If someone else can somehow improve them by all means do.
...I managed to improve that transition: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/44378091249856675 I really like this game (although I haven't played much)

Wow! A while ago I was wondering if the published run could be improvable, but now, I'm impressed again with these optimizations (mainly the jump chaining since the first time that I watched your published run). Yes vote. The rerecord of the published run (at the time) impressed me and now, 157k rerecords! Definitely this is the second SMS/GG TAS with more rerecords (golden axe warrior run has almost 490k)! Shame that the reset and demo glitch (accurately) doesn't work on the japanese version. Otherwise, I could verify if this run could sync on FM sound with that version.

I used the 1.13.0 version (pointed on the submission text), but desynched for me around frame 163 000 (The zip - that leads to Elpizo boss - failed to work). Fortunately by using savestates, I tested the 1.12.0 version and worked for me! (probably because of a certain lag) Well, about of this run: Although I don't remember much of the published run, this new run is impressive. Great job with the chain rod! Yes vote.
