The first time I ever got access to the Internet (in the mid-90's) I was already an adult. Which means I spent my entire childhood in the pre-internet era world. (Well, if we get really technical, the internet in its modern form was developed in the mid-80's, but it did not become mainstream until the late 90's. Prior to that the world at large was essentially "pre-internet".) Yet, today people who have been born in the internet era are already adults. Which means that they have spent their entire lives in the internet era. They don't have personal experience of the pre-internet world. For some reason I have hard time imagining how that is like. Not having experienced the world before widespread internet, before cellphones, before easy and dirt-cheap worldwide communication access, where you can communicate in real time with someone on the other side of the world (other than by phone, costing outrageous sums of money).
I was fairly young but I did have pre-internet experience, although I was a preteen when Diablo 1 and Starcraft game out so I was exposed to the internet as young as reasonably possible. It's definitely a different world today. I can't imagine being born in 2005 or something and not being around prior to social media ruling everyone's lives.

Hope it's not too bad of me to post here again almost a decade later, but hello again.

As I spent so much time on the internet when I was younger I've essentially left time capsules for myself to revisit, unintentionally of course. I think it's a unique experience that our generation has access to. Some of my older posts make me ashamed, some are interesting for me to re-read, and some remind me of how interested or fixated I was on certain things. I do visit old places in real life too and I get nostalgic but it feels like my mind is playing tricks on me in real life as memories from 10-15 years ago are unlikely to be perfectly accurate. With the internet, the memories are undisturbed and won't be changed unless the site gets closed (which has unfortunately happened to all too many of the old places I used to visit); at least, I hope the internet will never become so dystopian that anyone is would go around changing old posts. More likely that any touchy subject would just get outright banned as we've seen happen in some countries already. It's interesting to think about. When I first made this post it was about how this site made me feel old. I made the original post at one of the low points of my life after quitting medical school which is probably why I felt this way. Now, I just enjoy re-reading what a much younger me posted and thought. It's a great way to self reflect. I've gotten my life back on track after long bouts of depression due to huge student loans from quitting med school ($100,000, now fully paid off) and I feel like I am re-discovering myself after living like a zombie the past decade or so. The main problem I had a decade ago was that I had no money and was afraid I would end up homeless so being mindlessly driven to pay-off my debts made sense, it was a matter of survival. Today the main problem I think about is that I want to be able to earn money doing something I'm passionate about instead of pursuing my current career. I hope this forum, and others like it, survive the passage of time so I can come back here and reminisce every decade or so as I grow older and (hopefully) wiser. For some of you this forum is just a day to day hobby, for me it's a time capsule. I'm looking forward to see what worries and interests me in another decade. Hopefully any financial worry will be past me and I can worry about more important things in life.

Nice job on the map! As for the optimization of the world map battles, I don't think there will ever be a great way to do it. Just have to bite the bullet and try to get all 100 fights during your world map travels without having to add any extra steps, I suppose. You want to finish the 100 fights by the time you get to the second temple right? Since I don't believe you go up there anymore after that. I don't know how extensively you can manipulate the fights you want without sacrificing time on world map movement, but the 2x scorpion fights may be worth it if you can get a few of them while still following optimal world map movement, assuming you can't get 33 swarm bug fights following perfect movement (+1 random small fight). I don't know how viable this would be, but you could do a few battles during your first visit to the swamp to knock a few out of the way and gain some levels. It would probably require at least a potion. I don't know if it would help you save any decent amount of time in the following few areas at all though as you already destroy the dungeons and bosses pretty fast. I'm guessing this would be a bad idea but just throwing it out there. Or maybe do a few easier fights in the snowfield/firefield/low level areas during your travels there even if it's only 2 enemies. That way you may not have to sacrifice as much time on your world map movement to get the clouds to spawn as you want, and for the viewers it would split up the grinding. Like I said though, I don't think there's any absolutely amazing way to do it. You still need to kill 100 enemies at the end of the day.

Thanks for the encode. I watched both this and your old run side by side and it seriously puts your old run to shame. I didn't really realize while watching the old run standalone but there was a lot of time saved simply by better optimization (I noticed you skip text faster for example and saved a bunch of time even during the intro). Good run!

You have my full support for this TAS even if I don't really post anymore! The recent TAS was fun but to me game end glitch TASes are not very fulfilling so I'm eager to see a 100% one if you do go through with it. Of course, I can't help you because I barely understand what you're doing, but I'll read/watch either way :D

Not sure why but the youtube video of this is unavailable in my country (Canada). May want to look into it, see if it is affecting other countries as well and why.

As someone who has been waiting for a TAS of this for almost a decade it's an easy yes vote! I'm a little sad it's not the full game and has to end with that damn glitch that haunts this game though but oh well! :( Good job on the run! Now someone do a Der Langrisser TAS and my decade old wish-list will be done :P

Hey all, I haven't really been posting for the last few years but I still come here once in a while to watch some videos; rarely visit the forums though. I found Exit Fate and Last Scenario here when I visited in 2009, and found the 7th Saga TAS I wanted to see in 2010. I still want to see TAS of games I made topics for more than half a decade ago : Der Langrisser, topic made in 2004 http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=936 Dragon View, topic made in 2005 http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2545 That first topic was made when Arc's site was still around and I didn't really know the difference between a TAS (I can't even recall what they were named back then but I know it wasn't TAS... time attack I think?) and a speedrun because he threw them all on the same page + those aesthetics runs he kept. I remember lurking for a couple of months before signing up and asking for this game. Bisqwit ran the site and TSA was a god at Zelda games. Oh, and there was a continuous war between speedrunners and TASers because they felt it was cheating (willing to bet that's still going on to a lesser extent). Heck, I hadn't even started university when I first came here (in my 7th year now). I've lived in 4 different places since I've signed up here. Visiting back here feels like that was in a different lifetime. Makes me feel like an old man. I get the same feeling from other old sites I used to visit like gotfrag or wcreplays and it's predecessor. I still haven't give up on those runs btw. I know I'm hopelessly patient seeing as no one will ever make them though. At least there are Let's Plays of them now. I wonder how it will feel to come back to this site in another 5 years, assuming it's still up? Anyone else get this type of feeling from this or other sites? Overall it's pretty good to see that it's not filled with memes here. Pretty refreshing.

Awesome. This run is the only reason I've visited TAS in the past 2 years so I'm happy that it's finally done :D Congrats, will watch soon.

Guys, would you please stop repeating N+ as a suggestion every two pages? We have a topic about it here, on the first page of DS Games board.
I checked for N+ and didn't find it. Not my fault there's more than 1 name for it.

I think this game : (N+) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoeZzzaoyXM Could make for an interesting TAS. Maybe the pace is too slow though?

Is that just for new accounts? I had no problem switching my channel to the older style, like for example this one : http://www.youtube.com/user/BadPotat0 or http://www.youtube.com/user/cubex55 Where there's no random video player on the page and cramped up playlists and video lists. Anyways, it's not a huge deal; I just think it's harder to find videos with the way it is now.

Just my opinion, but please use the other youtube template, where you can see a page with 25 videos/page instead of having them all on the side (the new template that you are using). It can be a pain to find a video or a playlist with this design.

Here's a more comprehensible translation because I was bored : "This is a speedrun to get 100 coins (pieces?) in Super Mario 64. I used re-records and frame advance. I used a lot of long ranged jumps to save time. It took me about 1 hour to create this speedrun. Made with Mupen64. It's my first speedrun. Didn't use any bugs." -> He says something about the japanese version but it's unreadable even to a french person... no explanation as to why he used it instead of the U rom. The rest is just repeating itself.

I remember renting this game when I was younger and really hating it, not getting very far in the dungeon. I'll watch it once there's an encode; seeing it beaten will be a small vengeance for those wasted hours.

"Does replaying the whole game is the only to check unsynchronized issue? Is it possible to load an earlier savestate and then.. starts the pxm files at the same frame?? I din't think that this game could be so long to replay.. those other people tasing RPG with ~4hours are replay for the start too? I would like some advice about this, thanks. " I'm fairly certain that you can load an earlier save state made at a point that you know you have no desynch to and look from there. I would still watch from the beginning once a while though. Let's wait for someone more experienced in making TASes answer though, to be certain. Will watch soon, one of my favorite games. *Edit : Or not. I can't get the emulator to work and downloading the megavideo video, I can't watch it even though I can usually watch flv files. Watching it on megavideo would cut in the middle because it's too long. Ah well, eventually you'll be done and it will be encoded lol

Exit Fate Character recruiting spoilers Alright I gave up trying to recruit the last 5 characters on my own and I decided to use a guide. I didn't expect those characters... I was thinking I would be getting more storyline characters but I guess not, they just added characters to older towns. Anyways, I have 2 left : Myst + his revive. I checked the guide (http://www.indiefaqs.com/index.php/Exit_Fate), and I need to get a Charged Jet to finish this quest. He gives you one but for me that was early in the game and I'm close to the end now. Obviously, I've sold it. I'm looking for monsters that can drop it or have it stolen from. I tried pretty much every area I could think of with dark monsters... I'm still trying to get one from Wizards in the Vishnu Castle but I'm not even sure they drop them... If anyone knows, please let me know!

Hey just wondering if I missed a few things. (Spoilers, highlight) I'm at the point where Erin and Jasper just joined me after going through the catacombs. I have 54/75 characters right now. There are 2 things bothering me that I'm trying to finish before moving on with the story but haven't been able to so I'm not certain it's me or the game won't let me yet. 1) I haven't been able to recruit Myst and it seems like if I could of for a long time now because he's been at his final experiment for a really long time. I'm not sure if I missed something obvious for the incredients he lists but if someone could PM me what they are that would be nice. I don't know what they are really, except the first 2 of them, I have the holy grail, restore, things to cure amnesia so I'm pretty sure I got those covered. 2) Fitch. I don't know about this one but it seemed like he should of joined me at the start, since he seems so generic =p. I can't find him anywhere even in the elf-town or anywhere else really... Just seems weird, usually you can find them even if you can't recruit them. All other things I have been able to finish... except getting Rainbow Ores for Darwin which I guess is later and getting access to the black market (I think) in Jargo. Oh, and finding a use for that 500 Arn poison I bought at the start of the game. I'm pretty sure I can't finish those yet though. I have access to Highland, Helman Island, Mayfall, Oishin, Avalon, Jargo Port, etc... I'm not certain but I believe I will start fighting Almega now.

I was going to say the same thing. I'm happy I looked back in this thread even if I already have Last Scenario, downloading Exit Fate now. From the screenshots it looks sweet and I'll give the author benefit of the doubt since LS was pretty good.

Just a note, if the first trick is too hard to manipulate at low level, you can always go back when you are doing your armor selling trips and being higher level, kill it easily. Are the other apprentices worth recruiting/selling? 1 is going to be evil and unrecrutable... 1 is Wilme (he could be the evil one so that you can get the maximum amount of money) 1 is you 2 is Kamil and Olvan 1 Is Lejes that you keep So that leaves Valsu and Esuna. I know their equip is not as expensive as Kamil and Olvan but it should still be good for 5k+ each right? Is that too slow? Also, I know a few enemies drop opals and such. While these aren't worth the time, are there normal enemies (other than tricks) that drop emeralds or rubies? I guess not since we wouldn't be having this discussion if that was the case. *edit : Well, if you ever fight any random battles against enemies that drop lowly gems, you should manipulate them. I doubt you will be fighting much except what you want though. Have you tested the difference in power/time/money with the 2nd best equipment instead of the best? That could be worth it, but I don't remember the difference in power. Of the normal Items, Recoveries I think are the best sellable ones. I'm pretty sure Brains drop them, and as far as I remember you are going to level off them so you could manipulate a few recoveries to sell there.

I don't think it needs to be said but almost 5 years later I still want to see this (and Dragon View) done :) I hope new posters in the topic will show potential runners that there IS interest in this game! Also, thank you PSI Slime for posting that patch; I had trouble finding it.

I voted "Other option? Suggest an option, and it will be added. (Votes will be reset, and you can vote again in this poll.)" I still think an option of writing only to the author & judges would work. My second choice would be reverting to what we had.
