yes
Okay, I've been working on it more, and I'll be using that route, and once I get into Autumn Plains, I'll have the 1st WIP up for download.. Hopefully you can improve it :) EDIT: Well, you said that you didn't have any trouble with desyncs when making your run, though mine tries to desync at random positions. At first it was after completing Glimmer... And now, it's half way through Collosus... At one point it would go all the way to Idol springs without desyncing.. but then.. started back up again... I'm not sure what to do, maybe we'll have to wait til the next version of PCSX rr comes out.. Unless you could create a file and send to me and try that :p? The desync problem is stupid :P

No sound 0.4 , and NEVER, NEVER use fast foward But even with TAS plugin or MIDAS SPU, there was no desyncs when I did my run (maybe because it was on PCSX v0.1.2)
All right will get on checking those later :))

It seems that you forget that they are some gems in the water for the high ledge orb, so the best route is -Collosus -purchase swim -Orb from Hunter -Orb on high ledge -gems in the water (after that you are at the start of Summer Forest) -gems out of water you don't get in the first passage -Idol Spring
:P I know they're gems there, but like I'll create 2 different WIP's, one using that route up to the second you enter Idol Springs.. And the other using the route I proposed up to the second you enter Idol Springs... That way at least we'll know that way lol... Also, I'll try and use version 0.1.2 of PCSX rr instead of 0.1.3, with the no sound 0.4 plugin.. And I'll rip my fast forward key outta the keyboard so I'm not tempted O_o" for fast forwarding, and thanks again... And I'll be getting on these later when I got some more free time. Oh 1 final thing, are you saying that once you get the gem from Hunter, that you can fly over to the orb on the High Ledge? If so, that would make complete sense about your route :P.

zeromus is/was working on the next version, not me. I think he has already fixed a lot of desyncs.

Also, I'm sure you know that really a chunk of the desyncs caused by PCSX are caused by the sound plugin itself, so I was hoping for an updated version with more of the use of the MIDAS PSX SPU plugin which helps greatly stops Desyncs to almost 0.
MIDAS SPU is absolute crap and it is closed-source. The TAS plugin has a "movie sync mode" which prevents most of the desyncs caused by the sound. Use that one for making TASes; and then for encoding you can use any other that you prefer.
For certain games, it's not, such as Spyro 2, which is why that it is, in certain games, better than the TAS plugin.. As for encoding, I'd just get someone else to do it for me :P.. Anyways, thanks for the information, and I'll be waiting for the next release, as desyncs become a pain :P EDIT: As of last night.. The plugin was working fine, but now desyncs again. I'll just have to wait and figure out how Lapogne did his run of this.. Maybe that'll work :/

The game is set to hard, i think what ill be needing the most is a good amount of bullets for the bosses, health can be preserved by avoiding random fights, actually only the bosses can give you some damage and even those are easy to avoid while TASing. Im actually thinking about a GOOD+ ending, but im not sure because on my prevoius experiences at TASing i got different opinions, that's why i would like to hear what others have to say in order to define the route. I played this game long time ago, so i forgot about some important time saving movements like turning around instantly and walking sideways, since this is just begining i really don't have that much work to Redo, ill start over using this technics.
Ahh, well ofcourse I know that you can skip fights with TASing :P, but you know what I mean by the take damage to save time mechanic lol... Anyways, yes bullets are a big must, now that you're running for speed to complete the game as fast as possible... It's needed that you should obtain the Bad+ ending.. Due to it being the shortest ending. Also, if you're experiencing some issues with the sound, and possible desyncs, I found out about this sound plugin which is good for TAS'ing purposes MIDAS PSX SPU I'm needing it for my Spyro 2 100% TAS -> Which highly desyncs after Glimmer >.<!!!! Also here's the link on SDA which might help you save a ton of time http://speeddemosarchive.com/SilentHill.html Though, I have not watched it, so I can't really say much on it, since it would take a while to download :S .. But as for you, it will help you alot :] The endings themselves are: 1) Bad (This ending requires you to fight and kill Cybil and not interfer with Kauffman at the Bar and motel). 2) Bad+ (The ending for this run. The shortest of the 4 NORMAL endings. It requires you to save Cybil with the red liquid and not interfer with Kauffman at the Bar and motel). 3) Good (The longest ending to achieve. It requires you to fight and kill Cybil and go through the Kauffman events at the bar and motel). 4) Good+ (The second longest ending to achieve. It requires you to save Cybil with the red liquid and go through the Kauffman events at the bar and motel). 5) UFO (A special ending unavailable in a new game as it requires the channeling stone and therefor is not allowed for my personal speed run purposes). However, I believe after you beat the game, the new save file say's NEXT FEAR, right? If so, after completing this run... It would be awesome to see a UFO ending ;) The way I see it, there would be 5 categories for Silent Hill 1, each of the 5 endings. Hope that helps, anyway's, I'm trying the sound plugn at this moment as typing this, and it's working good! :) ^ Speaking on that note, I'm extremely exited that pretty soon (metaphorically lol.. Will take months) that my Spyro 2 100% TAS will be completed, and I hope to be helping you on this because I would love to see a Silent Hill TAS :)

I was wondering if somebody would like to see a WIP of this run, that would help me to check out this thing in other people systems, is actually quite new so, is just a few minutes long, i just got past the dog house/3 keys part of the game... HERE I IT IS! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5XHX02VE
Strange, I encountered the same problem as you, the game runs a bit too fast at NTSC speed, but at 30FPS, it runs fine.. At NTSC Speed, the audio is good, but at 30FPS it's messed up. The way I see it is, just keep it at 30FPS, because PCSX is still an experimental TASing emulator.. Which has major desync problems... As for your TAS itself, I enjoyed it, however, without really trying, I did see room for improvement, IF it would save frames to take damage (The old Takes Damage to Save Time routine), and if that would be the case, and I'm sure in some points of the game it will be, it would help to probably pick up a health drink or 2 for the run. Also, is this on Hard difficulty?.. You went too fast, I couldn't even tell ;P.. Nevertheless, It was awesome, and I hope for you to bring moar <D> WIP of this ASAP :)

After I finish the Spyro 2 100%, I will TAS'ing both Chocobo Racing and Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness... So atleast you can expect to see those later on in the year :P.

Here is the route I propose : 1. Glimmer 100% 2. Collosus 100% 3. Purchase Swim 4. Get Orb from hunter (Summer Forest) 5. Get Orb on High Ledge (Summer Forest) 6. Idol Springs 100% 7. Battle Crush (with the "door glitch") 8. Crystal Glacier 100% 9. Skelos Badlands 100% 10. Purchase Climb 11. Return to Summer Forest 12. Get third Summer Forest Orb 13. Hurricos 100% 14. Sunny Beach 100% 15. Ocean Speedway 100% 16. Get Orb behind door 17. Aquaria Towers 100% 18. Return to Autumn Plains 19. Scorch 100% 20. Fracture Hills (All the gems in the high area) 21. Magma Cone 100% 22. Shady Oasis (All the gems in the road + the first orb) 23. Icy Speedway 100% 24. Get first Autumn Plains Orb 25. Zephyr 100% 26. Metro Speedway 100% 27. Get second Autumn Plains Orb 28. Breeze Harbor 100% 29. Battle Gulp Did skill points and tokens (Dragon Shores) are necessary for a "100%" run ?
First off, I'm glad you responded :). Anyways, I'm familiar with getting into Crush's room early. I like the route you've proposed, but it would help to get the Orb from Hunter first instead of going straight to Collosus since you can fly to behind Collosus' entrance, where they are 2 gems. For 100%, which is what is required for the permanent super flame upgrade, everything must be got... So yes, Dragon Shores is necessary if that's what you mean for 100%. With that being said, we can use bobmario511's route for Collosus here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vn_5ReAD9Y, who has agreed to help me work on this TAS, I do hope you will do the same :), welp.. We can use the door skip after getting the gems in the first part of the stage. then get the gems on the bridge.. Improve the route a tad bit and try for it from there after getting a solid barely improvable route :P. 1 thing that is irking me about this run so far is mild desyncs, which I know is a big problem with PCSX :( ... Did you use anything in your any% run to help stop desyncs? And also did you use anything such as a good sound plugin? If so, I would really like to have those for use on this. After getting everything in the little beginning area of Summer Forest, (After completing Idle Springs as well) we get the orb from the high ledge, after that, we can skip the rest of the Summer Forest levels, and do the route you've proposed. Which I think is very thought out lol.. So here's what we've got 1. Glimmer 100% 2. Get Orb from hunter (Summer Forest) 3. Collosus 100% 4. Purchase Swim 5. Idol Springs 100% 6. Get Orb on High Ledge (Summer Forest) (Dash into Water, Collect gems in the water there as well) 7. Battle Crush 8. Crystal Glacier 100% 9. Skelos Badlands 100% 10. Purchase Climb 11. Return to Summer Forest 12. Get third Summer Forest Orb 13. Hurricos 100% 14. Sunny Beach 100% 15. Ocean Speedway 100% 16. Get Orb behind door 17. Aquaria Towers 100% (must pay money bags to get out :P.. but no big deal really) 18. Battle Gulp 30. Purchase Skull Bash Think that's good :) ?

Thanks for your reply. Im actually starting a Silent Hill TAS, but it feels too fast when i play it back. Even the sound gets interrupted sometimes because of the speed. Im using the TAS GPU version 0.2, cause i don't know where to find 0.3, i hope this doesn't give me any problems. What do you think im doing wrong? why am i getting this speed?
When trying to play Silent Hill on PCSX-RR-v.0.13, it does rather end up freezing at some points, 1 point, for example, is after you start a new game, after you gain control of Harry.. But with fixes, I've got passed that.. At some points, like after certain FMVs, it freezes once I gain control of Harry again... Like if you'll check some of the things with the TAS Sound plugins, it does make certain noises sound.. funny, like in Spyro 2 for example when picking up gems, or during FMVs. Mainly though NTSC fps is 59-61fps, so that is normal. If you're using PCSX.. Then go into Configuration -> Graphics and do the following.. 1. It is somewhat possible that the FPS overlay makes the speed lag some, so if you were to try putting Transparent FPS display on, it may help. 2. Have auto detect FPS/ Frameskipping limit on 3. Have Use FPS limit checked 4. Make sure that you use what your computer can handle, if you try to emulate too much (such as advanced graphics), you may run into problems such as lag. 5. If the above may be the case, at the top make the color depth 16-Bit. 6. You can also click on the little box beside of Special game fixes to open up the Special game fixes menu. You can try different fixes to see if it helps any if any of the above doesn't help.. Be sure to ofcourse have Activate special games fixes on.. Hit okay, and try from there.. If still no luck, I'll try my best to help :)

I honestly think that these games are not good for TASing if you're a new, because all of them are complex and already very well optimized. Beating the existing TASes of these games is extremely hard. I do not recommend these games for newbies except for testing and learning basics of TASing. But if you're up to it and feel confident, I wish you good luck.
That's moreover of what I mean, the point in this is to get people who are new to TAS'ing an idea of how to start doing there TAS'ing.. I don't mean for them to at first try a fully optimized TAS :P, It's all about practice at first, and then on to the real thing once you get the hang of the game itself, and understanding how to TAS numerous things of course.

And as the way I am, I will constantly post my progress, so be sure to check out this thread at least every week :P... And again, thank you :D

*Will be updating more of this later, and explaining more of why these common games are easier for testing* 1. Metroid: Ahh the original game for the NES, that shocked many after beating the game and realizing that guy that was actually playing as was actually a gal. It's a rather linear game... unless you know how :). Here are some TAS's that show how glitched this game can get! NES Metroid (USA PRG0) "100%" in 33:25.7 by Thomas Seufert (Lord Tom) Publication: http://tasvideos.org/1320M.html Video: http://www.viddler.com/explore/adelikat/videos/311/ NES Metroid (USA PRG0) "any%" in 08:19.32 by Thomas Seufert (Lord Tom). Publication: http://tasvideos.org/1144M.html Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KYA3ssuGv8 NES Metroid (USA PRG0) "low%" in 11:08.78 by Thomas Seufert (Lord Tom) Publication: http://tasvideos.org/1443M.html Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNHw2zwJKBE 2. The Legend of Zelda: Mostly the most popular Zelda game up until Ocarina of time! With pixel perfect precision, and luck manipulation, you can rummage through this game in under 25 minutes! NES Legend of Zelda (USA PRG0) in 24:04.05 by Phil Côté (Phil) & Lennart W. (Baxter) Publication: http://tasvideos.org/868M.html Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHMlKSvYDcA NES Legend of Zelda (USA PRG0) "2nd quest" in 24:59.83 by Lennart W. (Baxter) & Joshua Horst (Morrison) Publication: http://tasvideos.org/1205M.html Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlmb6AK75QQ 3. Mario Bros :) Okay, no need to ask who Mario is :P... If you do, you deserve to be slapped... HARD. It was always a joy playing this as a kid, even though I didn't grow up in this era :D. Not really all that much I can say about this game though I'm afraid. FDS Super Mario Bros (FDS) "-3 stage ending" in 02:44.61 by Lee (HappyLee). Publication: http://tasvideos.org/1365M.html Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGWUgw--Xco&fmt=37 FDS Super Mario Bros 2 (FDS) in 08:06.96 by Lee (HappyLee). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6SFGz_Q2lY FDS Super Mario Bros 2 (FDS) "Luigi Version" in 08:16.42 by Phil Côté. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ-ZyRAlEas NES Super Mario Bros 2 (USA PRG0) in 07:52.67 by adelikat & Cardboard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbPjBHmel80 More.. and I do mean many more Mario TAS's can be found on the NES Submissions section here: http://tasvideos.org/Movies-NES-FDS.html 4. Pokemon Ahh who could forget trying to wake up early Saturday morning or Wednesday evening to turn on the TV to the WB and watch this kick arse show :)? But after 2nd gen the series went down hill in the eyes of true fans, however, the games themselves are still fun, and even more fun to TAS. Heavy glitch abuse can be used to even beat the game (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow) in under a minute! Or if you're going for a true legit run, luck manipulation can be used to beat the game as fast as possible, even showing off those incredibly rare, and nearly impossible to find shiny Pokemon. :P - Links added later.. I'm sleepy :P - 5. Super Metroid Samus is back after kicking the Metroid's arses on SR388, with his rival Ridley, and a.. Very Confused Metroid Larva. Whether through TAS'ing hacks (Google Super Metroid S.M.I.L.E), Redesign, or the all time classic original, I'm positive you'll have as much fun as I've had with this game! - Links added later- 6. Donkey Kong 1, 2, & 3 Gotta love them Monkeys :), now some other things to be sure to look at about this game is the various warp points in the games, some are even inentional to the developers, such as the memory problem after beating the first level in DKC1, where you can glitch warp after Stage 1 level 1 to half way through the 3rd stage.. half way into a level! - Links added later- 7. Zelda Ocarina of Time/ Majora's Mask ~Description Added Later~ - Links added later- 8. Super Mario 64 Contrary to what MANY people say on this site, after learning a few of the glitches to this game, such as the Back Wards Long Jump (BLJ), TAS'ing this game can be highly educational to your TAS'ing career, because this game is easy, very fun, and a big part of MANY of our child hoods.. Just because it's 3D, don't mean jack after you get the hang of it, and I'll be the one to say that, this game was my very first experimental TAS's :) 9. Castlevania ~Description Added Later~ - Links added later- 10. Spyro ~Description Added Later~ - Links added later- Thanks for reading my thread, whether you've just skimmed through it, or read it all, I hope it has helped you, and for your first TAS, don't try to compare yourself to a PRO, just sit back, set a time, try to beat it, if you can, good! Keep setting it lower and lower, but don't set it too low that its near impossible/impossible even with maximum optimization. After you really get the hang of TAS'ing, try to beat one of the submitted movies here, or maybe some of those that didn't make the cut here, on Youtube. Who knows your TAS may end up here one day!

Hello! And welcome to my thread :). And by the way, if you're just now joining the site, Welcome to TASVideos!!! *Sorry for the confusion, this is meant for starting TAS'ers to get the idea for there first TAS, but TAS'ing common games and finding a game that they find they're comfortable with, I don't mean to for your first time to try and go for an all out optimized run! :P* Before reading, if not already be sure to check out this thread! http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8535 First off, if you're reading this, than most likely you are a newbie of TAS'ing, but may not necessarily be ignorant to what a TAS (that is a (T)ool (A)ssisted (S)peedrun/(S)uperplay) is. Well than, before we begin here are some useful links to look at, as well as there sub links. About TASVideos http://tasvideos.org/WelcomeToTASVideos.html Information on Common Games (A good start by the way!) http://tasvideos.org/GameResources.html Information on tricks that many games share (such as the way they're coded) http://tasvideos.org/CommonTricks.html Accepted Emulators here at TASVideos (Used to make the actual TAS!) http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources.html Short Newcomer FAQ http://tasvideos.org/NewcomersAnticipatedQuestions.html The Main Article Index http://tasvideos.org/ArticleIndex.html For you to compare your TAS to others, or even the pros :). http://tasvideos.org/Movies.html And an all around article on TAS and 10 Great TAS's! (External link) http://www.crispygamer.com/features/2009-04-20/as-fast-as-impossible-10-insanely-thrilling-tool-assisted-speedruns.aspx?utm_source=TeamCrispy&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=jjt After looking at the above, and possibly downloading what you need if you don't have it already, it's time to begin. You're going to want to find a game that you have played and are very familiar with, for example if you're familiar with Super Metroid or very familiar with it (As I am :D), than that's a good game to start TAS'ing. However, never go for a game that you've never played before, one you're just now playing for the first time, or a game that you have never beat. Below are some games that many people have played, and even if you haven't played that one, you're sure to have played one of them in the list! List of common played games by people: 1. Metroid (NES) 2. The Legend of Zelda (NES) 3. Mario Bros. 1, 2, & 3 (NES) 4. Pokemon Games (Various Systems) 5. Super Metroid (SNES) 6. Donkey Kong 1, 2, & 3 (SNES) 7. Zelda Ocarina of Time/ Majora's Mask (N64) 8. Super Mario 64 (N64) 9. Castlevania Series (Various Systems) ~ Symphony of the Night is a good one to try :). 10. Spyro 1, 2, & 3 (PSX - Playstation) Just a few to start out with, I'm sure that you, the reader, have played at least one, if not all of these games :). Below I'll explain what you should do if you decide to TAS one of those above listed games. And below in the next post, to keep my posting more organized, you will find descriptions, and links, as well as information to the games I'm more familiar with, such as Spyro, Super Metroid, and Zelda.

IF 'Gulp Skip' is ever found properly, then all levels will be done the first play-through. Autumn Plains is the second of the three home worlds of Spyro 2. It was designed roughly to be 100% impossible to get out of bounds. The reason why the developers tried so hard to make it so difficult (and believe me, it is) to get out of bounds is because you can get very high on the map, initially allowing you to fly anywhere on the map. Consistent methods have been found to get out of bounds with cheating devices (Cheat Engine namely), however this is irrelevant other than for testing as a TAS would not use cheats. Crash41596 accidentally clipped out of bounds at the first ladder, near the top, but after thousands of attempts, we've been unable to reproduce it. As for The Winter Tundra, skull bash is needed for 100%. This TAS first sought to include Dragon Shores as a little bonus, but I've decided to create a separate movie with Dragon Shores mini-games at the same time release as the 100% (playaround); therefore, Ripto will be defeated last for the most optimal time. The current estimated completion time is hard to estimate with all the possibilities. It's currently estimated time is x:xx:xx.xx (not yet estimated properly). Route Note: I'm typing this out of memory, and I can be a bit forgetful of things (sadly), so I can't guarantee this is going to be 100% this route, but it's pretty close regardless. 1. Glimmer (Complete; Credits for Lapogne36 for doing this; It's a pain in the butt kind of level, especially to TAS because of the way a gem miner moves since he waits on you) 2. Colossus (Complete; A big thanks for Crash41596 for majority of this level!) --Buy Swim 3. Idol Springs (In Progress! At fishes, will take a while. Currently having Hyperbug find exact coding of fishes to get a great time! (something like 25-30 seconds.. optimal is very unlikely due to how hard this is) 4. Get hunter orb/ Orb on ledge 5. Hurricos 6. Sunny Beach (Turtle Proxy :D) 7. Get orb that would normally require climb with swim jump. 8. Ocean Speedway + Orb with Hunter (this might take some time honestly because of the possibilities of finishing this challenge but nothing like fishes.. we hope.) 9. Orb behind door 10. Aquaria Towers 11. Crush -----------------End Homeworld 1----------- 1. Crystal Glacier 2. Skelos Badlands 3. Breeze Harbor (Quick completion.. Revisit with Fireball for 100% completion) 4. Orb above Breeze Harbor (jump on portal frame, get orb) --Buy Climb 5. Scorch 6. Fracture Hills (Quick completion.. Revisit with Fireball for 100% completion) 7. Magma Cone 8. Shady Oasis (Complete, revisit after getting headbash (which is also after getting Fireball, needless to say.) 9. Metro Speedway + Orb 10. Zephyr 11. Gulp (This'll be fun...) (After Revisit with Fireball) Icy Speedway + Orb ----------------End Homeworld 2, sans revisits--------
