LOL I couldn't help but laugh at the sound he made when jumping constantly... I loved the WIP :D

The Asylum itself is a bit annoying, you have too of course: -live -be entertaining while killing everything (that itself is rather hard, but I figured killing 20+ at once made up for that entertainment wise.) -As for the speed part of the level, There isn't really much you can do at points.. You have to wait for all the enemies to come out of the cages to kill everything to open the next area. If you'll notice in the 4th room, I go off, which really makes you say... "What was the point in that?" ... Just to end up killing a zombie that just came out of it's gate :p. -Also you have to keep at least 1% or 0% of your club, I found that using that extra % up I had, didn't save time, as you'd have to either get into the inventory 2 times, or keep it equiped to kill 1 enemy, where in turn you could've killed tons of them, like I did.

Sir Fortesque seems to wobble all over the place, I bet there are plenty of frames to be squeezed out through optimization. Path looks very good though, and I was entertained. Especially at how you 'cheated' the final battle army vs army fight into being winnable without the Good Lightning like it's supposed to require. :D
Often when doing the wobbling it is used in place of curving (such as the graveyard level), though at a few points (barely any) curving can be faster (places with dead ends mostly, like in The Asylum Grounds). As for turn arounds, it's usual faster to jump around (like I do alot). Path route is optimal in that sense (I tried tons of different things and this was the fastest I could get). Perhaps a few seconds at best are possible (not necessarily guaranteed) if: -Looping could be optimized (but in reality the gitch itself requires a guaranteed loop, and when falling down I'm nearly always at where I want to fall... Exceptions are places like The Ghost Ship that require another loop)... The real problem with this is you can't really see where you are (so it requires guessing), and this leads to many of the rerecords used in the run (atleast 10k worth). -Using different camera angles at different times Skipping the dragon gems definitely would save a ton of time (like 30mins worth?)... Of course, that means skipping the Gallows Gauntlet, which I have found methods to do so, but both require either cheats (using the camera to put myself on the pillar, theres a thing that can do that, Camera style 8) or freezing Dan's speed value at a high enough speed to clip between the dragonfire gate... Though we can get through the dragonfire gate w/o cheats, it's just getting backout. Also all the ways out of the level, are full of things that push you back into the level and invisible walls... So unless someone who is familiar with this game helps me figure out how to do this, then this is the current route required.

So, did you get the metal guy by the boatrider so he can push you further? I found that part.... confusing. :P
Yes, I and Groobo both have only found this possible with the boost from the armored zombie... It might be possible with out it, but after thousands of tries... I kinda doubt it.

I've never played this before, but after watching 20+ minutes of the youtube encode, I found it entertaining and quick, with some obvious unintended shortcuts. I'm not sure if it's the camera and/or controls, but some of it looked a bit unpolished, but overall it has been enjoyable thus far. This will give me an excuse to play around with the emulator... I'll judge this within a few days once I've tracked down the ISO and watched the rest :)
Hah I think I first played this game when I was 3 or 4.... I know it was definitely before I started school. I know alot of it seems rather odd looking, but I used the methods that gave me the best time, and adding the rerecords used for those level for that movie file. I'm sure I typed a story yeah haha... Anyway I'm glad all of you like it, it's my first real TAS. Not that I haven't made a TAS before, but they weren't really for submission, so I didn't try my best on them :D.

Welp I'm posive people love that glitch :p.. Thank you also for your vote. I'm kinda surprised no one has comented on what I did in the pools of the ancient dead level (push boosting dash into an exit trigger, that could not normally be reached otherwise). :)

I'm so glad to see this is done now Torn! I'm "TheClicheName" (That person who's been following you about on youtube. :P) I've watched the encode supplied by antd (Thanks for that) and I must say I really enjoyed this exceptionally fast run of MediEvil. I found my favorite to watch was probably Pumpkin Gorge, but I found the incredible speed you beat most bosses with (particularly the Graveyard Dogs) just as entertaining. Thanks for your hard work in making this run, I thoroughly enjoyed it. +1 from me. :)
In a Dora the explorer voice: I liked that part too. Serious comment: I think my favorite part actually was Zarok's lair... It's funny how using a shield, and turning around makes Zarok drop his shield, not to mention the skeletal army battle... I think it's safe to safe, that the good lightning, is not needed (contrary to what they say on the interwebz), and that Zarok's 4 (guessing here) man army, is nothing compared to my awesome army :D.

I'm assuming you should mess around with the graphic settings. Near the bottom click nice to see if that helped. If not, try activating different special game fixes. Try everything you can, and also try messing with the things in the options menu (like XA decoding?)... That's really all I can say at this point, as I myself don't understand why it should look like the game is snowing xD.

Thank you Warepire. But I still have a problem. To my mind, that is because of I don't know what to do with the ROM after downloading it. In fact, I can't load the ROM I want
Perhaps I can help... Downloading the ROM (Which for PSX, it is either ISOs, BIN/cue, img.. not ROM)... So rephrasing that -> Downloading the ISO, BIN/cue, img file that you want, finish downloading all parts (if it is split between parts), and extract with WinRAR or Winzip or something similar... Now you have a folder containing the game, or part of the game (in the case of multi-disk games, such as Final Fantasy 7). The next step is to open up PSXJin. Make sure you have the correct BIOS and are using the correct system type (Either NTSC or PAL)... Though I suggest using auto detect, though if you're like me, I really only download NTSC (USA/JPN) games, and not PAL (Europe), then it's not much of a problem. Though if your going to make a TAS of that game, be 100% sure to make it it's correct System Type, because if not, your timing will be off. Configure the graphic settings to your liking. And config your controller setup so that you can actually play. To use PSXJin to play you open the program, click File -> Open CD. Find your game that you wish to play and the magic begins o_O. To start on a TAS read below. To start a TAS movie file... File -> Movie -> Start Recording. You will be prompted with a menu that asks for information.. Make sure you have the author correct (your TASVideos name or real life name, though pref. your TASVideos nickname, as when submitting you'll be asked your real name), and make sure that you RECORD FROM POWER ON. After doing that, and when you close of PSXJin, to replay/work on your movie... File - Movie -> Start playback. I suggest making backups of your movie from time to time, as well as uploading your movie file to a place like megaupload every 40k/50k/60k frames, in case of something like a HDD failure. I'd also like to suggest that you have read only checked, until you are sure where your current save states are, so you don't overwrite all your hard work! When you're sure your not going to delete what you actually want to keep you can toggle read only on or off from the movie menu, even when working on it. In the top right the usual record image is shown when you are recording. As for that please be sure to read all of these: -Welcome page -Guidelines -Rules That's about as much info as I can give you from what you have gave me, if you need anything else, be sure to post back, I don't mind helping :).

When submitting PSX games it's usually a good idea to post the PSX-Game ID (example: SLUS-00644, this ID is "World Cuo '98", so don't copy this ID) in the submission text or as a part of the image name, so it is easier to know what version of the game to use when playing back the movie file.
Ahh sorry about that, I forgot, I submitted this late in the night. I'll fix it shortly. In advance it is SCUS94227.

To this day, I still find your picture awesome... On Topic: The only problem that I find with my run in general is that being a 3D free camera game... It isn't so easy to TAS, compared to the many 2D TAS's on the site (not saying they are easy... But like the concept is different I guess you could say?) For this reason, I have a feeling this won't be accepted (of course, I'm probably just paranoid xD). But still, it is a very entertaining run, so whether it is or not, I'm glad I finally finished it :).

I remember sparky mentioning about doing ibbf via tallon overworld. The route after the frigate would be missiles -> morph ball -> ibbf via tallon -> morph ball bombs -> charge. The main problem is that when going to ice beam, after reaching chozo ruins, it was claimed to be impossible to enter the morphball tunnel wihout bombs in the save room. Apparently this saves a lot of time, and a tas may be able to get into that morphball tunnel.
I just got back finally, so I'm hooking everything up at the moment, but I'll start messing around with this and leave some useful input after a full on test run. I'll try IBBF both the normal way, and this way via talloon overworld (if it's possible :p?)... And I'll try that route TRR03... Though I'm still using a normal console, and chances are I probably wont be able to do that if it was deemed impossible by someone like sparky :p. Anyway, i'll go over the game tonight checking out everyones tips, suggestions, etc.. I'll post back later.

How high do you need to get, because I assume it is at least higher than what Samus can reach with a space jump?
I'm not exactly sure on that, the others might be able to answer that... But I'm assuming some sort of crazy ass hyper bomb jump could reach one of the green enemies to give that weird bomb jumping effect that allows you to go back up to the sun chamber after killing Flahgraa... Most likely TAS only, or if your very good at HBJ'ing to reach such heights from the ground (bottom of where you spider ball back up to the sun chamber I mean)... Though, maybe a SW can get back up there too... :P It's really a guess and tell... I do know that if this method works, it saves going and recharging energy at save spots.. as we will have energy tanks to help us live longer, so we can royally abuse the whole "Takes Damage to save time" thing, not to mention Heavy glitch abuse.

You'd have to wallcrawl up Sun Tower (or use Spider I guess?). Also, Flaahgra's flower isn't there below the artifact, so IIRC you have to wallcrawl and fall on top of it. I seriously doubt it'd be faster to skip Varia, just explaining how it'd be possible...
Just editing my reply here :p, wall crawling would most likely be the best bet (as I said above,... sorta xD)... It probably wont be faster, but maybe it could.. I can't remember if energy spawn if your already at your max health on this game (I've not played it in months), if not, then that could be used to manipulate more missile drops... though it possibly could already be done without max health. I'll be sure to test alot of this stuff, though since I'm doing it on the actual console (Wii instead of gamecube though :p, I could use my GC but I see no difference), I'll most likely have major difficulties :|

Agreed, and what Acheron said might actually be a time saver... If we can skip Flahgraa, then possibly doing magmoor suitless might save time, but I kinda doubt this, mostly cause of the too much effort part needed to live everywhere. But it all amounts to testing, I'll pull out my Wii and start testing some stuff since Dolphin would probably kill my computer after I come back from town. This'll be fun :p ^ Which that only works if the room is in state 2 (artifact) , not 1 (boss)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's a little disappointed every time I see that this forum gets a post, only to find when I check in here that it's about SpongeBob or ports of MegaMan. I suppose I'd be interested in messing around with this when I get back in the states and have free time. I am not at all familiar with Dolphin, but I have a powerful machine; if I can get it working, while I don't think I'd be doing a publish-worthy run, I would probably be able to put something together that was 1:00 or maybe less if the emulator is up to snuff. Unfortunately from what I've read of Dolphin it looks like I may have some serious trouble setting up the damn thing. I do think it'd be a good idea to discuss ways a TAS would vary in route or planning from a regular run. I have to rewatch the 1:01 because I can't remember the exact route structure, but I'm sure a lot of time is saved by being able to bomb-jump to plasma early. I wonder what else can be done. http://speeddemosarchive.com/kb/Metroid_Prime Always a good reference as well for anyone not familiar with the game.
Whether publish worthy or not, I believe a TAS needs to be done. Someone can build on from that if it gets rejected from publication :). I also find it disappointing that many TAS'ers choose 2D games over 3D because it can be alot easier :p. But yeah, mostly the important thing in discussing is the route, second the bosses, third the enemies. If the route currently (switching with the SW route thing) is golden, then I guess we have no choice but to use that, but I doubt it.

But I guess I'll try later. Anyway, I'm currently watching the 1:01 speedrun, and then later Miles 21% demonstration (I really find it unnecessary to watch the 22% if the only difference is getting the space jump). And I'll leave my input on some things if I can aside from whats already been stated. I'll edit after I finish both and leave my input here: Note: I simply refer to secret worlds as oob - The door load times from real console and emulator would be different right? If so, that saves at least a second or more waiting. Doing a HBJ could save the waiting time between bombs in spots where he does DBJ more than 1 time close to each other. We'd obviously not have to enter a save room to save, but it might help to heal. Rapid Missile Firing would be frame perfect and not delayed at all. Scan jumping would be asap, and optimal, beating Sparky's time escapes would be obvious, but I guess everything else I'm saying is already... With frame advance a lot of things can be done so that alone makes the Metroid Prime run in under 1 hour, but I guess that wouldn't be hard since 1:01 and 00:59 are only 2 minutes apart haha. I wonder if holding Samus off at certain points will allow things to load (like morph tunnel doors) so that you can go full speed ahead, but that's just assuming, it might be slower than just hugging the door til it opens. In sparky's video he hesitates by loading rooms to see where he is going (when he's oob after getting the charge beam) (I'm guessing, not positive if it's actually necessary to do this), and with TAS, we could (if it's not necessary to load the room to move on) just skip a lot of waiting time.. I loved the whole "fake spider ball" thing after Flaahgra. Magmoor is pretty standard. Phendrana... You'd think that there might be a way to get the wave beam without that annoying fight, but probably not from the way I've tried (and failed) so many times at it.. Skipping the boost ball is a no, as it's very worth the whole few moments it takes to get it (I'm very well assuming :P, if I'm wrong, don't hold me to it)... But same deal with the space jump, I don't see a reason why not to get it, it takes a few moments to get and it definitely beats morphing, bomb jumping, unmorphing (and especially on scan visor jumps).. I enjoy sparky's route, but I recall that you can get the plasma beam as soon as you enter Magmoor Cavern's by doing the oob stuff, so that will save back tracking time for sure, however... It's most likely not faster overall... So most likely, scrap that idea... Back onto his route, this is a very good route, but I don't think a TAS that just removes human errors out of an already existing speedrun would be "AHH-MAH-GODZ SONICKS"... I'd actually vote Meh on it (even if I was the author). Though, someone did state that some new SW route in phendrana ends up saving time, Sparky said it'd save 5-10 seconds in a normal run (if you wanna find this, just check video 15), so maybe more in a TAS... Nevertheless, do there happen to be any "TAS only" things in Prime? I think that we should use an SRAM, but only because of the ability to skip cutscenes... I prefer there being 2 categories ... 1 with sram, 1 new game, because the times can't be compared in my opinion. Finally.... I'd just like to say, that I've typed a lot o_O

Hi, I'm back. As I said before, I was having a bit of trouble with an egg in Cloud Spires: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXKpiY8QjBU Description C+Ved: I came across this problem a few weeks ago (made me quit TAS'ing it for a bit, I couldn't work out how to get around it). But I finally realised it had something to do with the order in which I collect the eggs in the level. If the end of level egg is collected before the in the corner egg, regardless of other eggs collected in between or after them, then the island egg won't hatch - how annoying. Although I can easily get the island egg first and then get the in the corner egg after (tested - works), this would be significantly slower, and horrible to watch (many people who would watch the run would probably say 'why didn't he get that one first' etc. This video is mainly for the people at TASVideos, but anyone else can suggest what I should do, e.g., skipping one egg, or just have a longer route with both eggs. Before you ask, I tried TAS'ing the whirlwind to get to the island egg early for about an hour a while ago and failed. I'm about to try it again with the camera facing the other way so I can use down and right to turn quickly, but considering I'm only turning for a few frames, I expect it'll be impossible. Edit: Just tested, once again, so painfully close, but I just can't quite make it, GRAGH. So, basically, here's my question: In the interest of the the fastest TAS possible, should I skip the egg on the island, or take a bit longer route (even though this would make this part of the run a bit nonsensical to those who wouldn't originally realise why it was done slower)?
Uhm that's quite odd to be honest :p about the egg. Well, if its any% then definitely skip the egg (unless no alternatives are faster, which is unlikely), but if you 100%, I suppose that's self explanatory you need to get both eggs. If the option of island egg, then corner egg works, then I guess you should do that, it is slower yeah, but if that's the only way to get it, then that is necessary right? I hope I made that clear... >.>

Groobo, since your like my MediEvil buddy here :P.. I'm sure this is something you'll be interested in looking at, though others can put in there opinions as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqh0KiZ6JAU And I'll put the description here: Alright, so I'm messing around with this level a lot, and I'm finding that you can get on the block at 0:22 .. But I'm finding that its possible to go further, I've done tricked the game into thinking I'm in a non out of bounds area (if you die in oob you automatically go back into the level), even though I really am! So, if I could get a little bit higher, I could possible make the game into thinking that I'm on the bridge, which means I can skip the Sleeping Village Level completely! We don't need the shadow artifact anyway so this is definitely worth looking into. -> If you want a better picture of where I'm at (you HAVE to use the camera cheat to look properly at this). http://i56.tinypic.com/dxmq7o.gif So i'll keep messing with it, and if I get any other info, i'll post back. Edit: I got onto the bridge, which was what i was wanting, but I DON'T want to be like in the middle of it :p, i want to be behind the wooden door where the exit trigger is xD, so I made myself clear! More edits: I've found ways to make the emulator crash and the game freeze with messing with values by doing things like: Make the music mute by imitating the cutscene that you usually see when you are about to normally finish this level, like against the guards at the exit trigger (Do this outside the bridge, so that you can kill yourself to get back into the levels boundaries). Then reenter the levels boundaries obviously :p, now enter the mayor's house and activate the switch to open the gate where the bridge is... After doing this, the game will start doing crazy things like: - freezing - crashing the emulator - making Dan move extremely slow - Houses sometimes freeze, sometimes they don't, when you enter them. - Talking to a gargoyle causes a crash. - Dying in anyway causes a crash. - Trying to pause the game results in a freeze. (Inventory not affected) - Jumping over water causes a freeze. - Hitting a switch (whether already activated or not), causes a freeze. - Walking around the center area where the fountain is causes freezes randomly. - Reading books causes a crash. - Turning the camera can sometimes cause a crash. I'm not 100% sure if this is only my computer's doing, it may be, but considering it's done this numerous times (testing it), I'm sure its either an emulator flaw or a crashing glitch.

Uhm so far I think the only game it doesn't support is Bugs Bunny Lost in Time because according to Mothrayas, there is a cutscene freeze. There are probably a few other games, but all games I've tried worked. Edit: I've also started making more MediEvil videos (only 1 so far uploaded), but I'll get around to making better ones. My youtube account is now enabled to upload long videos, so I'll definitely be uploading a full game WIP soon.

For $5 D:? Hah I'd pay tons for this game (if mine ever broke, but it works fine) :]. But some news on this thing: - It will be done in the summer, most likey in June, this is a promise. - It won't be super perfect, but it will be well made and as perfect as I can get it. - I'm sure others could do better, perhaps saving a few seconds at max, especially if Groobo was to do this run :P. - It colors a dinosaur.... no really - I need a better computer :] - They'll be a teaser of the run around June the 2nd hopefully. This run would've been finished a long time ago, if I'd have some free time, But don't worry, in the summer I'll have tons of free time :) ... I'll start working on a level a day until I get to scarecrow fields, then start spending 2 days on certain levels, to really help out. I kinda feel like MrGrunz with his Zelda MM TAS.. Though not as much hype xD. I plan to reset my run and start over though, as I've found a few time savers here and there, and Pjm hasn't much support in movie editing (as far as I've been told). I mainly want to get MediEvil out of the way so I can go on with Spyro :] .. But I'll start keeping updates from now on on this thread.
