Nice! Are you planning to do some further tests and checks before we actually publish this?

Sounds like a cool category after what I've seen in the latest SMB warpless (full description should be worth posting here directly), tho it needs an encode to attract more attention and comments. I'm curious what people think of it too.

That was a quote from http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#MovieSTechnicalQualityMustBeAcceptable The fact that we will try and improve is mentioned to be clear about the competitive nature of TASing. No one is rejecting movies with 2-frame improvements, even bigger known improvements are allowed if they would take too much to incorporate. And the only actual flaw in TASing is not improving upon previous imperfection. Anything else can be fixed. Now, this is not done to criticize the author. This is done as a usual process to check and verify the work. How can you improve your work if you don't know what flaws it has? Improvements are always encouraged, but never demanded. When it comes to optimization, we only reject movies that are sloppy all over the place.

Annoying is the right word. It's annoying when I don't have enough free space for both HD and SD dumps of this run, when I don't have enough CPU speed to encode it on my own, when I ask Corey for just the SD dump and he makes a torrent, grabbing those via torrent takes several days then dies at 99.9% with one magically corrupted piece, when restarting/rebooting/rechecking doesn't help, when redownloading the whole thing would last until january 1st, when we decide to split the 51GB SD dump binary-wise and compare hashes for all the parts, when splitting takes a day, when after finding out only the very last segment is corrupted and grabbing it from Corey, I also find out that regular encodes would last until january 5th, when I have to reduce compression settings in order to save time, when after encoding and uploading I find out the subtitles for the primary encode are wrong and have to be changed, and reencoding it once again would last until january 1st, so I just split by the keyframe and reencode up to that frame, only then it was finally ready. Quite annoying yeah. But when on top of that it doesn't work on any Dolphin version that can makes a good lossless dump, when code that can make lossless dump has to be ported over, when versions of that code are either dumping with errors or have to be rewritten from scratch, when the code you end up having crashes the emulator, provides black video, screws up the timecodes and in the end has to be reencoded anyway, and you don't have the manpower to handle all that in reasonable time, that's not annoying. That's a tiny little bit somewhat kinda infuriating.

If you want to make sure your movie is considered fastest completion by our rules (which means it can be vaulted if needed), play the least amount of levels that still lead to game completion, given you don't need anything questionably to skip the optional ones. Skip everything optional. If you just want the movie to show cool stuff (neither fastest nor full completion), do what Memory said. Just make sure the goal you end up choosing is sound and sensible. For example, if full completion isn't equal to playing all levels, you can submit the "all levels" branch. And yes, that'd have to be entertaining to be published.

Good question, I thought about it for this and the previous runs, we'll see how rating goes.

Position in the menu is one way to look at it, and I can't say I like it. There's also this "common" notion what the game is primarily. Another approach is indeed comparing the differences in gameplay those modes provide. For example, if gameplay is significantly different (the most obvious example is when the genre is outright different between modes), this usually means that common notion about this game is tied to the mode that goes first in the menu and whose gameplay defines the primary game genre. We may look at all these and call a mode primary if all 3 aspects match. Or we may add more aspects!

Spikestuff you're the only one here saying "It must be X!!!" and overreacting to your own notion. This thread is for free discussion where we try to come up with sensible reasons and make solid decisions. This will happen once again, because at the moment it's unclear when we should have several equal modes labeled, and when some modes are secondary, with primary modes needing no label. FWIW, it does feel odd to label literally every mode blindly. This just needs a bit of brainstorming.

As Memory said, cheat codes are banned in most cases, but I'd still want to hear your ideas.

Lubuntu is incredibly lightweight. Debian with LXDE would give you comparable (and probably faster) speed if you don't install tons of extra stuff.

Maru, please upload the subtitles somewhere so the publisher could use them.

It's impossible to read developer's mind, we can only speculate about their intentions. Also sometimes a "glitch" is an oversight, but sometimes it's a result of an explicit decision to avoid some check. It's impossible to know for sure where "glitching" starts in the code, because it's impossible to fully understand and test all the code. For that reason, "glitchless" is a bad label. Sometimes it's not too bad, for example when it's somehow really easy to clearly distinguish all the glitches from intended play. But in most cases it's incredibly arbitrary and ambiguous. Like in situations where the list of possibilities is really huge and what is possible varies in a lot of ways. Then everything becomes a matter of "glitched enough-ish", and there's no clear cut anymore. As a result, we'd need a better definition of what it banned and why. Why exactly did you avoid the things Memory listed? If we understand the main reason, maybe we could come up with a better label.

It strikes me that "full inventory" is incorrect: the inventory is already full if you get (e.g.) the first sword and shield, because the upgraded sword and shield replace those in the inventory.
If it accepts further upgrades, can it be easily called full?
Radiant wrote:
Furthermore, this run obtains all hearts (which are not shown in the inventory)
We use a general term of the English language, and for this game we define it as upgrades that you can check at any time. This originates from the in-game mechanic that explicitly shows you what you have, therefore it's not iffy or arbitrary.
Radiant wrote:

Those aren't explicitly shown to you at any time, therefore not required for this branch.
