Is it fine that one or multiple movies will require specific emulator settings in order to stay synced till the end? I don't know how to explain it, but Dolphin plays the movie correctly only if you set the Internal Resolution to 1x or 2x (with the applied window auto-adjustment),
but if it's 3x - the movie will desync for sure.
I don't know how many special conditions I will remark if I finish the whole series of verification movies by some miracle.
Yeah it's ok.

What's the verification setup? Did any input have to be tweaked?

Done. I think the major skip glitch class should stay, to indicate what this movie was thought to be, for historic purposes.

Thanks! Yeah if layout is similar, inherently different solutions that come from gameplay differences are also a sign that it might be different enough. The 50% cutoff originated from when we discussed how a different character should alter gameplay to be considered a separate mode, and we allow separate modes for Vault. If 50% or more solutions will be different for Ollifanten, we can allow both versions in Vault. If it's less, we'll have to prefer one, most likely official.

I don't consider this game as a prototype, as the officially released game features a game engine that was mostly rewritten from scratch.
Having the same level layout on a different engine would result in mostly similar gameplay. But having different levels on the same engine would result in completely different gameplay. We care about gameplay when deciding on vaultable differences, not engines. Because engines are also hard to objectively measure and compare.

Does anyone know how many level layouts are different between this version and the official release? We have this rule for prototypes:
Movie Rules wrote:
Prototype game versions are only accepted if there is no stable release version available.
But if more than 50% of levels are different, then those can count as different modes and both be vaultable.

Because, I mean, let's be real, I seriously doubt anyone is ever actually going to TAS Ottifanten anyway. Holy hell, it's so much slower and worse to play. You can't even walk diagonally! They regressed in gameplay from the prototype! Who even does that?
This version is probably better, but I can't figure out how to sensibly incorporate such an exception into the above rule. If gameplay is radically different, it's feasible to compare and measure the differences, but if it's slightly different, any superiority would be mostly subjective, and hard to measure for everyone. I'd argue that whether gameplay is better or not shouldn't be a reason to prefer the prototype version in Vault, because Moons is the tier where gameplay is meant to shine and please people's tastes, and Vault is for clear cuts and measurable objective things that are true for everyone.

If you double-click on marker frame in the inputroll, it should spawn the text edit popup too. IIRC binding markers to input also affects wither they're saved to branches. I missed your question in the chat, it's better to talk here I guess.

Several verification movies is fine as long as they only depend on in-game saves and not emulator savestates. Recording from a savestate isn't allowed, because there's no guarantee it's legitimate.

The Update button/functionality wasn't mentioned, but I'll still add this vid to the tastudio post.

The verification movie syncs, but the actual movie dies at the spider in the first level, with both mine and yours onlineLicense.ini, with all the default options aside from the character. Should I be trying other options like screen resolution maybe?

Yeah I was able to access this mode by hitting F8 really really quickly while it's booting up, and your verification movie is finally running!

That option is disabled for me, it tells me it needs 256MB of video memory, but I can only allocate 128MB in VB settings (which is what your dxdiag says too).

The problem with this category in its current form is it doesn't have enough variety and tension. The BG art is amazing, and the level layout is constantly changing, leading to changes in action, but most of the time it's the same limited set of things that barely changes across the whole movie. Floor clips are nice, whatever shortcut the suicides help with is also cool, but overall it does get old eventually. It stayed on Meh+ for the first few minutes, disappearing sprite led to Meh-, then gameplay got repetitive and it became a No, and in the end there are a few seconds of tension that move it back to Meh-.
The ratings show that after 2014, when the last big improvement happened, this category stopped entertaining people. I can agree that improvements aren't so obvious anymore, and it feels like watching the same run over and over, without it providing enough entertainment to actually be worth watching several times.

Okay I don't have VBoxD3D9.dll in system32, and the hashes for existing files are different. My VB is 6.0.0. But I see d3d9.dll in dxdiag.

I tried WinXP SP3 in both VMWare and VirtualBox, installed directx 9c, vcredist, guest additions, turned 2D and 3D acceleration on and off, game hash matches, but I can't get Boshy to output any video no matter what I try. There must be something that's not mentioned. Iji runs fine.

I would appreciate a judge's input about the issue brought up in this post of the Dream Team Contest 9 thread. The question is whether or not a level skip button combination is allowed for a run aiming for Arbitrary Code Execution/Memory Corruption/SRAM Glitch/Game End Glitch/Wrong Warp Glitch. The game's developer considers the button combination cheating in 1-player mode but not 2-player mode (sources here under controls and here). DTC9 uses one of the game's 2-player modes. My thought is that the button combination is allowed for those categories in 2-player runs because of the explicit mention from the developer. If I'm wrong, however, I'll change the DTC9 rule. Thanks!
Note that, if the feature accessible in that way is suggested explicitly by the game itself or mentioned in the manual as a normal means of playing, such as level restart shortcuts in the Legend of Zelda or Metroid, it is usually allowed.
These rules are not strict, but are motivated by the same concept as the guideline that says you should play on the hardest difficulty.
If the code gives you unfair advantage that makes the game easy, I don't think it should be allowed. If it makes the game harder, it's definitely allowed. If the effect is neutral, it's probably fine.
The way the author describes it makes it look very iffy in terms of legitimacy, and the effect of the code is clearly an unfair advantage that makes the game much easier. As opposed to:

The movie rules contain a rule against cheat codes, so if the rules are to be followed, this run would be rejected. However, we need to look at the spirit of the rule here. Normally, cheat codes are used to make gameplay easier - make it simpler to finish the game. However, in this case, the run is not ordinarily "finishing the game". It does not actually make "gameplay" easier, because what it actually affects here can barely be called "gameplay". In odd instances such as these, where the game is not being conventionally played or finished, we can make an exception to this rule.

Dolphin's dumper only writes unique frames with their timewise positions, but the timebase is 1/60, so the result can be loaded by VFW importers without additional framerate info. Dolphin rounds up timing of every frame to fit into this 60fps grid, even though originally they may not be aligning with it. It's constant fps, but at the same time dedupped.
